I cant believe how much shyt people have talked about Parker? The guys not half as hyped up as Joshua and just faced a better opponent in Takam than both Joshua and Wilder.
Takam came in the shape of his life and rather than credit Parkers heart even courage to continue fighting those morons who couldnt lace a boot let alone gloves downplay his achievement?
He basically outsmarted the veteran and not just any old Tony Thompson a well seasoned proven Takam.
This is why boxing no longer gets a serious following when people watching cant even appreciate two big men potentially risking their lives.
He's not British, so you're not going to stroke most of the people around here. If AJ guts out a win against a top-10 HW (he may fight a quality guy eventually), he'd be praised by Joe Public for showing a new dimension and maturity in his game. But he's not, his career arc is going to be compared to AJ at every post - and fans will see this through their rose-tinted glasses at every said post.
Parker has flaws, many flaws. He's young, he needs refinement, and if doesn't continue to improve, he'll run into trouble.
Also, he won. He's got a W on his resume that plenty of guys in the game right now can't match.
Because people can't respect more than 1 fighter in a division apparently, so if you're a Wilder, Joshua or Fury fans, out of your own insecurities you have to disrespect and down grade any fighter that could eventually be a threat to your favorite fighter lol
I like Parker, Fury, Joshua and Wilder and if all 4 are good then guess what, that means the Heavyweight Division is going to be a Excellent Division going forward
Because people only appreciate boxers KOing the Whyte, Martin, Molina, Dehaupas,
It's a strange world we live in. Everyone complains about mismatches and wants competitive fights and when actually get one they are disapponted and the fighters just aren't very good because there was no spectacular knock out.
It was a good fight where the seasoned pro was essentially beaten by pure speed and athleticism mixed with some skill and desire.
These are the fights Parker needs in order to improve and if he can improve on the negatives he will be a major player in the division.
He needs to shorten his combos and use his jab more. If he can learn to get in with his jab and throw a 2/3/4 punch combo and then get out and tie up on the ropes he can be a force
He can take a punch which is good because I can't see him becoming a defensive genius but with the tools he has, he can reach the top echelon. I can also see him taking a loss and coming back up when he's 28/29.
I'm looking forward to seeing how he progresses.
Takam showed that if Joshua can keep his hands up and not trade with Parker, he could outbox him. Then again, Joshua probably has worse stamina.. I'd still pick Parker to stop Joshua just cause of the superior speed and chin.
Agree with the TS and some of the other posters. Takam is a better opponent than Wilder and Joshua has faced. Sure Parker struggled but he can learn from it, but he'll have to progress if he wants to beat the best. He has the potential but time will tell.
Thing is he is just 24, had a rather limited amateur career and only had limited rounds as a pro. He has time on his side. He isn't the finished article, no 24yr old is he probably hasn't even finished filling out yet.
I do think most of the top fighters beat him currently but he probably has a higher ceiling than just about all of them.
Good learning experience against a highly experienced & tough vet. He can take a lot from that and far more so than these other HWs can fighting duds that predictably get blown out inside a round or two. Nobody learns sh*t from that.
Hell yeah I thought it was beginning to unravel. The fact that he staved Takam during that time is what turned this performance around to make it a good learning experience. It definitely something that needs to be addressed- and I'd be interested to hear some interviews about what happened there in the 5th.
Me too, because he hasn't shown stamina issues before. I watched him fight Bergman in Samoa in stifling heat and his output was just fine. I know Bergman is no Takam, but it wasn't like the 1st 4 rounds last night were fought at a high pace or all-out wars. If anything Parker seemed to be coasting those first few rounds, doing pretty much what he wanted to, controlling the fight behind the jab and then boom! out of nowhere he looked shot in the 5th. Very very strange.
Once the stamina problems hit him the jab disappeared and the fight took on a whole new complexion. Credit to him though, he bit down and fought through it.
because hes not American or british , hes not recieived the complete hype bull**** pr job they get for fighting complete bums like Joshua and wilder have and then there being lauded as the next ali , Marciano, atgs , parker fought a tough sob that the others avoided and he won it wasn't perfect but against a tough fighter like that it shouldn't be easy.
Takam would be Joshua & Wilder's best win. Parker should follow the recipe and hone his physique and rub himself in baby oil while fighting the lowest opposition available. People are dumb and this works.
I thought this was a very good fight for Paker, what you seen was hardening of steel.
People who are writing Parker off should watch Wlad's fight with Ross Purrity.
It was an interesting performance from Parker. The only negative for me is the stamina. He just seemed to inexplicably gas in the 5th round, stopped throwing his jab and went to the ropes. When fought off the front foot behind the jab and double jab he made it look ridiculously easy and Takam had no answer.
However for reasons unknown (maybe nerves, extra long training) by around round 5 he just looked completely shot and suddenly Takam was in the fight.
If he had had the stamina to stay behind the jab he could have just about shut Takam out and everyone would be talking about a great performance.
Still stands too high and comes out of clinches straight back.
Back to the stamina, it is something to be watched. When he fought Sherman Williams he went 10 rounds easy with a high work rate. Maybe the occasion got to him a little. Who knows.

Its good to see you experienced posters backing me up here, I admit fully his stamina was poor especially at World level what you cant knock is his grit and determination. In my opinion he requires a better trainer as his trainer still hasnt ironed out his punching technique or lack of defense in 19 pro fights. He looks like he is determined to learn more I dont agree Dillian Whyte can take him that couch potato got tired commentating let alone fighting.
Parker needs 3 things
1. Defense
2. Conditioning
3. Punching technique corrected
It was obvious from Takams body language that Joe is a strong big guy who he was very careful of backing up so with them improvements he could definitely be a force to be reckoned with.
For me its also great to see another Samoan fighter enter the sport, I want to see more fighters from that part of the world since Tua it dried up, we need a bigger more diverse build up in boxing it would definitely make it so much more interesting.
