Chavez was still very good in his early years at 140 but by the time he first fought at 147 in late 93 he was already getting rusty. Tszyu beat a shot Chavez and so I wanted to get some opinions on how this could have went had it been a prime Chavez and not the mummy Tszyu beat.
Kostya Tszyu by stoppage or tko again.
I know Kostya fought Chavez in 2000 and stopped him but stylistically Kostya was a sharp shooter down the middle which is bad for a guy like Chavez who loves throwing wide hooks most of the time to the body.
Plus Chavez relied on size advantage at 130-135, but when he went up to 140 147 he didnt have that so his punches were not as effective against guys who were not smaller than him.
Look at both Mayweather fights, first at 130 and second at 140, Chavez won both by TKO and most of his fights at 140 ended with a KO/TKO victory for Chavez. I don't think his power was dramatically weakened at Jr. Welterweight.
So did Trinidad, he beat every single Mexican in their prime and never lost to a Mexican.
DLH was robbed against Trinidad. Danny "sgift" Garcia got a gift against Herrera.
Wilfredo Gomez also beat like 10 Mexican champs and lost to only one...Sanchez.
Gomez is arguably the greatest boxer ever from Puerto Rico and still got beat by a Mexican. The best of the best from Mexico never lost against Puerto Ricans (Chavez, Sanchez, Lopez).
Agreed, but he was from Sactown and grew up with hardcore Mexican Americans. Northern Califas Chicanos accept any body as one of our own if you got heart. Chico had heart.
It's just hard for us Mexicans to see someone like Corrales who was born in the USA to a Colombian father, and then raised in a northern Chicano (who are a very fringe and removed group from actual Mexican and Mexican Americans, they prefer black rap to Mexican music) ghetto simply has a Mexican. It's like we can now claim Roberto Duran has Mexican because his father was. Corrales couldn't even speak Spanish, I do agree that he was a very good fighter. Are you Japanese?
chill out lil' mestizo warrior
most mexicans great been beat by asian
pac ran thru most of the mexican greats of this era and kostya tsyzu whoop julio chavez sr ass
Pacman lost to a past prime Morales and only beat him when they got him to weight drain since Morales had moved up to 135. Morales couldn't make 130 anymore, he outgrew the division. Marquez really has a 3-1 record on Manny. Manny is the greatest boxer ever from your country, Morales and Marquez were very good but not better than Chavez, Sanchez or pound for pound Ricardo El Finito Lopez. Prime Chavez (from 84-92) or Sanchez would have destroyed Manny under 140 and at 126 respectively.
I couldn't agree with you more. Exactly how I see it.
Mosley beat De La Hoya easily, yet Vernon Forrest had Mosley's number, Mayorga had Vernon's number. That is just boxing.
Part of my motivation is to shut up foolish fans who jump on stupid names like "mexicutioner".
When boxers believe their own hype bothers me. I loved it when the "young Master' Amir Imam got Mastered by Granados. Equally funny was when both Maidana & Porter solved a simple "PROBLEM' known as Adrian Broner.
DLH got robbed in the Mosley rematch, DLH got robbed in his biggest fights, against Trinidad too.
Has for the thread, I just find it amusing that some boxers present/past or their fans have to give that recognition of them being "Mexicutioners" it's like are we that good or is it because of some sort of hatred? Do they HAVE to beat Mexican boxers to achieve greatness or something? I wonder if there are also "Blacutioners", "Filicutioners", "Ricutioners", etc. Greetings.
I was shocked when Floyd Mexicuted Corrales, or is it ChicanoCuted Corrales?
Gatti whipped his fair share of Mexican ass. He stopped Ruelas brutally.
I live in Tokyo and whenever a good Japanese fighter beats a couple of Mexican fighters, Mexicutioner.
I guess Mexican fighters are kinda good at what they do... so passive aggressive Japanese gotta jump on that moniker. Until they get whipped by a Mexican. It is funny. I say stupid **** in sports bars here, examples the Japanese guy got terminated by the JapAnator. Or he got the Samurai Smashed out of him. Or, Azteca power crushed Yamato power. I talk **** here. Saying stuff like, he took a beating a kamikaze would approve of...
I like Vasquez vs Marquez as my favorite rivalry. I know boxing. My sisters know more than many guys on this site.
Corrales wasn't fully of Mexican descent, he was half Afro Colombian. So he was has much half Black Colombian has he was Mexican.
A slightly past prime Morales also beat Manny in their first fight. Weight drained he lost the rematches, in the third fight Erik looked like a cancer patient. Manny also never decisively defeated Marquez in any of their fights in fact I think Marquez won 2 of their first 3 and the the fourth one we all know how it went down.
Chavez was going to struggle no matter when he faced oscar because he was just too damn small for oscar. Oscar went on to win titles at frigging Jr middleweight and even middleweight. Chavez won titles up to Jr welterweight. So he was NEVER going to hurt Oscar who had an iron chin that bigger fighters and bigger punchers such as Trinidad, Vargas, Quartey, Mosley, Mayorga couldn't dent. So there is no version of Chavez that was going to ko Oscar. And he damn sure wasn't going to outbox him. In 2 fights Chavez won 1 single round that's it. Judges had it 3-0 the first fight and 7-in the second before the stoppages. Now a prime Chavez puts up a better fight and likely doesn't see his face fall apart like we saw in both fights but because the size difference he was doomed.
he struggled with boxers in his prime like Whitaker and Taylor. Oscar either stops him late or boxes his ears off. It was just a terrible size and style match up for smaller chavez.
That is why 5"5 Manny destroyed Oscar, ahh yes Oscar wasn't in his prime but somehow Chavez was? specially in the rematch at 38? yea right.
That's my theory since the fight was announced canelo will come in at or around 160 to prepare for 160 title fight next. He will be significantly smaller then chavez. He will beat chavez with his speed and skills advantage not by size. That's just plain stupid if you think canelo is planning to be bigger then chavez who is 6'1 and walks around OVER 200lbs between fights.
You can't based size on height alone. Tyson was "only" 5'10 but was a heavyweight. They are just thick big boned dudes. Tua also comes to mind. I wouldn't doubt that Canelo's walk around weight is also close to 200.
