Neither were impressive. Calzaghe's worst performance to date, but Bernard looked like he would rather be at home, laying on the sofa, farting like a wizard and watching repeats of Emmerdale farm.
Being white, I have no doubt 90% of the posters here who think that was the funniest thing ever are white boys in their 20's that were offended by Hopkins use of the word "white boy". In actuality, that was the gayest, stupidest thing a 30+ year old man could do in a live fight. Some people never grow up. The fact is, Calz was owned by being KO'd in the first by a 43 year old shell of his old self Hopkins, and never dominated the fight even in the late rounds. What a Joke. He waits until all the champs are over the hill until he gets the balls to come fight them in America. What a looser. Yet he's your hero. LOL!!!!!!!
KO'd? LOL.
That's a good point about the KOs. What exactly is up with calzaghe's hands, I know he's broken them on occasion but does he have a condition or what?
I agree that if there was one thing Joe didn't do against Hopkins it was punch hard, and I've never really subscribed to the slapping theory before, but I really saw why people say it in that fight. he unloaded some good ones against Kessler though, but that was two years ago and who knows what could have changed since?
The Kessler fight was only 5 months back. November 3, 2007!
Yes, he has a condition, I've seen him describe it in a documentary but I can't remember what the condition is exactly.
Doh! Remind me never to rely on my brain ever, ever again.
Still, if he could punch then, then maybe he can still punch now. Hope so anyway.
The Kessler fight does seem much longer ago than 5 months, oddly enough.
I would like to sit down and talk to Joe about his hands and see what the deal is. I think he's not letting on how bad his hands are.
Addison is not a moron. Not even close. Addison is one of the smartest posters on this board. Sure, we usually have different opinions and come up on the opposite sides of issues, but he is fun to debate with, and he is a very sharp cookie. Don't make shit up in a lame attempt at insulting him.
He was the one doing what you accused me of. I said he had no sense of humour and to lighten up. Next thing I'm supposedly a cocksucker?
Calzaghe.
He made adjustments when he was losing the fight, he showed some technical improvements as well. I didn't see what was so lackluster in his performance.
I'm probably one of the biggest Calzaghe supporters here but the performance last night was awful. He did what he needed to do to win, but looked bad doing it. I do agree though, that he was able to make the right adjustments. Very few people are gonna look good against Hopkins though.
I was worried about that too at first, but I've watched the fight again (I got a copy now) and I now think calzaghe looked fine. He did what he always does, its just Hopkins being so Hopkins like that made me think he was losing it.
I've noticed a lot of people revising their opinion of RJJ now and saying he could give Calzaghe trouble, but we have to remember he's lost to both tarver and Johnson, and surely against Jones we would see the more open boxing match that Joe specialises in.
You don't think?
I think Hopkins has a style which is ridiculously difficult to look good against and he would/will look much better against Jones, but I can't help thinking Calzaghe is on the downward slope now. I think his hands have totally crapped out on him, but the guy just doesn't know how to lose a fight, it's insane how he always finds a way to win, so I never bet against him. I learned not to do that many, many years ago!
Tarver and Johnson defeated Jones by KO. Calzaghe doesn't have the power in his hands any more to do any serious damage, by the looks of it.
I dunno man, I'm still thinking about this one.
He's a mini Joe, only bigger. If that makes any sense. Needs to work on his power and better head movement, but shows promise and seems like a good kid.
I don't think it was a terrible performance because if it was, Hopkins would have taken advantage of it all night.
What I'm saying is, in comparison to most of the other Calzaghe performances, it wasn't a good one. Overall it was OK, it got the job done, but I expect better from Joe.
Amir Khan will achieve more than this kid. Thats for sure.
To be fair, it's a bit too early to be certain about this. Khan hasn't been tested against high quality, proven opposition, so it's hard to gauge where he's at. As far as I'm concerned, Khan should have a loss to Limond on his resume. Had the ref done his job properly, Khan would have lost. Limond is not known as a puncher, so Khan's chin is questionable, though he obviously has some good skills. Khan will be KO'd at some point. Bank on it.
I'd rather see him fight Pavlik for several reasons.
* Joe looks better at SMW.
* Roy Jones avoided Calzaghe before (argue and disagree all you want, it's true), but now wants to fight. Joe should tell him to take a hike.
* If Joe fights Roy he will be accused of picking on old-timers.
you know.... i think freddie roach is an amazing trainer, but ke sucks at a second. compare enzo to roach....with freddie roach idont feel motivated going into the next round, the second must fire up their fighters and yell at them when they are not doing the things being told. on the other hand when enzo spoke, he always lifted joes spirit up....at least if was fighting there the thing i would like most is to feel motivated no matter what, and roach sucks at that =P.
I agree. Enzo is a great motivator.
No shit stupid. If you weren't acting like a disrespectful little fuck to guys who have been members of this forum for 3 and 4 years, guys who work as professionals in the sport of Boxing entertainment - you might have my respect still.
I don't want your respect asshole, I don't care how long you've been here nor if you work as a professional toilet cleaner. You voting other members down and then not allowing anyone else to vote you down makes you a bitch, like punching and running away. You're like a spoilt kid.
I honestly didn't see what was so awful about it, sure he could've done a few more things to make himself more effective but as you said, it's very hard to look good against Hopkins.
I guess just comparing to his other fights. He never looked that bad. I feel his hands are totally gone now, too.
I thought Hopkins looked good in places but nowhere near busy enough. Before the fight he said Joe slaps, and I agree, he does slap because his hands are totally screwed, so I wonder why was Hopkins afraid to do anything other than throw a right hand, rush head first at Joe and then hold? This happened all night, and it was not good to watch. Ugliest fight I've seen in ages, and that's pretty much all down to Bernard.
Or it's like what Lampley said, he decided to slap more to have more speed and accuracy on his shots.
I don't get it why he didn't try to land uppercuts on Hopkins when he rushed in with the head, or why he didn't throw a few shots with more power. As I said, I can only put it down to hand problems. He also waited too long, but I was glad to see he managed to cut off the ring somewhat, rather than aimlessly following Hopkins around.
Yeah, terrible performance, but made nice adjustments similar to the Kessler fight, only it looked much worse. I guess credit goes to Hopkins for possessing such a difficult style. I wouldn't want to fight him.
And disrespectful over what? Because you like Joe Calzaghe alot?
He can't hear you. He ain't here. You shouldn't disrespect your peers because you have a huge hard-on for a fucking celebrity. PATHETIC.
You really think so? That's pathetic, it really is. I don't have heroes, only people I respect.
All communication between people of the same so-called ’subculture’ is rendered useless by conflicting personalities of those who gain more satisfaction from the offer of fame and money that from creating a level of interaction and thought within their own kind. Those with more ability become inherent leaders and are then subject to exploitation for personal gain other than short-lived false heroic status by the media whose job it is to create idols to sell their product to the gullible public. Heroes create money. The rest of the subculture stick to their media-created restrictions and see their new hero as a part of them. The fact that he has been made into a hero defines his 'followers' complete lack of originality. People need heroes to back up their own half-formed ideas. All original thoughts are regurgitated a thousand times in attempts at self-realization which must consequently fail as the person has merely become an advertisement for someone else's ideas and his own sheep-like mentality. The subcultures decay in solitude and false ideas of unity that only lead to self-destructive tribalism. The media help to create this tribalistic paranoia and reinforce it with exaggerated fears and false heroes. It’s a downhill rush into apathetic self-obliteration. Be Yourself - cos there’s always someone who wants you to be someone else. THINK.
Calzaghe is not the first or the last guy to show no class in the ring, please dont confuse my point. Showboating is one thing but that was a classless move.
You're such a whiner. It was a bit of fun, can you not just get over it? Learn to laugh, it'll do you good. Miserable twat.
The best thing that every happened to Haye.
Yeah Chunk, you might have a point there, but do you think Haye's chin is at all fragile in any way? I think he can (and will) brutalize plenty of the heavies but something tells me he could be given a few problems along the way.
Fool, my profile is on private because I have had over 9200 profile views. I'm tired of being stalked. The fact that you can't rate me is beyond my control.
I'm also not concerned with you disrespecting me. You have disrespected many people in the last few days. People you know nothing about, and your responses are simple, stupid attacks. You don't even have a basis for it.
Just your Calzaghe :blowjob: cocksucking.
Show me where I disrespected people who didn't disrespect me first or who are total goons and deserved it for being stupid.
Whatever you say, Addison, you don't impress me. In fact f**k you man, I can't be bothered to even talk to you. WTF am I wasting my time on a moron for?
no that I can understand. He was directing it towards Cortez who was sytematically fucking him in the ass
No, he was saying to Cortez that Floyd bent over the ropes. Nothing homo about Hatton's antics at all.
