Sure, it's hard to take anything from a 43 year old man, but Hopkins flat out stunk out the joint last night. He didn't fight...at least not for a full 3 minutes in any one round. Calzaghe did not impress at all, winning solely on aggression. I didn't see him land one good punch the entire fight. Hopkins looked like he spent the fight fighting with headgear on he was so clean and untouched. Hopkins fought dirty as usual, basically mugging Joe by holding so damn much and faking that low blow. That told me the guy doesn't have it in him anymore. I felt like Calzaghe COULD have won decisively if he just threw more punches, but he seemed so tentative after getting put on his ass a few minutes in. After the first round, I thought: "This is like Casamayor-Katsidis" and that Joe was going to be loading up for the big shot while Calzaghe just kept pressuring. Instead, we got one of the worst megafights ever. I was not entertained for a single minute and I think neither guy should be proud of their effort. Anybody else think the same?
Calzaghe looks like shit against fighters who don't fight. That is still the case. A guy like Hopkins with more power is the guy who will beat Joe
I was very impressed with Bernard in the early rounds, but late on he lost all my respect. He is a ridiculous.
The better MAN won.
Any doubts I had about Joe C were confirmed after this fight. I think his stock dropped and hopkins did what I expected an old crafty warrior to do.
old crafty warriors headbutt,,,,constantly hold and go down intenionally to catch rests? ok
I wasnt impressed with either guy, but at 43 years of age AND coming off a year layoff pretty much, Hopkins has every excuse in the book for that kind of performance.
I dont think Hopkins stock drops, Calzaghe does though IMO
Absolutely correct, I could not have said it better.
But I will add that I was watching the Animal Planet Channel at the same time and guess what?! Snails screw faster than those two fought...
Neither were impressive. Calzaghe's worst performance to date, but Bernard looked like he would rather be at home, laying on the sofa, farting like a wizard and watching repeats of Emmerdale farm.
Why would either man's stock drop?
Calzaghe came back from a knockdown and beat Bernard Hopkins, granted not a prime Hopkins but still a cagey, dangerous veteran who is very hard to look good against.
Hopkins fought a very good fight for a 43 year old, especially in the beginning.
I was impressed with the way Calzaghe adjusted after a few rounds and started to do things to negate Hopkins. He also showed some improvement in the technical side. He didn't square his feet up much, threw straighter shots, was patient and didn't get drawn into Hopkins' fight down the stretch.
Hopkins was exactly what I expected him to be. Calzaghe won, but he didn't dominate the way I'm sure he hoped he would. I'm not sure he drops, but I don't think we'll see many people putting him higher on their P4P list.

Yeah I wasn't impressed at all. It was a pretty boring fight, but Im not gonna knock Hopkins too much. Hes an old fighter and I still think he looked ok in the ring for his age. I still think Calzaghe is overrated though but he won the fight to me. He just seemed to land more "punches" (If you want to call it that) and put a bit of pressure on bernard. I did find Hopkins taking that break for like 2 minutes and grinning at cortez funny.
