Not that I'm gonna cheerleader Jazza Dickens to be the OMG ACTUAL CHAMPION or anything, but unrelated to him the moment Roach had his first Tank "draw" and started looking for a rematch they should've stripped him at that point. Two full years since the Hector Garcia fight that he won the belt and had one defense against a stay busy (not even a mandatory last I checked), must really be nice to be PBC and have the WeBlowAl on your side.
So a welterweight tournament between one welterweight (who should really be at 154) and three 140 pounders. I wonder who is going to win.
I thought Boots was only staying at 147 for unification fights?
I guess he could always claim that the opportunity for "big fights" was too good to pass up? /s
Also if he moves up on the summer of 2026 by then Crawford would be retired or about to retire and Boots can claim he got ducked by Crawford.
Not that I feel like supporting Arum but where would he go leaving TR for better future given his lack of popularity?
Join Queensbury or Matchroom to get some Brits while waiting and praying for Valenzuela or Hitchins unification and hope for Saudi lottery next season given the cards for rest of this Riyadh is already likely set?
Join Golden Boy hoping for a Garcia payday next year?
Certainly not join PBC to fight once a year in house against Pitbull or the likes (he isn't getting Tank as he won't go to 135 and neither Tank to 140)?
Teo ain't the type that can succeed as a FA either IMO.
Think of it this way, up until 2023 how often has boxing fans even thought about Saudi Arabia in your life? Now compare that to that how many times have you talked or typed about Saudi in the past year alone. That kinda answers it.
Is he making money? No. Is he getting his money's worth out of it? Hell yes.
This makes me feel that Roach has some undisclosed injury he got during training that is big enough to make his team unsure if they will be ready for March 1st and they told PBC. Tank probably heard that Roach got injured and assumed fight is cancelled and posted on his social media, but then Roach/his team said they are going to recover and as of now the fight is on, but PBC decided they wanted to be safe and have a backup ready ahead of time.
Either that or even worse, they already know for sure that Roach is very unlikely to be ready in time but after pushing the fight already twice PBC didn't want to completely can the event and further lose money. However after hyping Roach up as a champion and formidable opponent they don't want to announce that the opponent for Tank got changed to Magsayo this early to get more flack and also lose out on ticket sales so decided to keep Roach as a decoy until the last minute before they swap.
AI is continuously learning and gets smarter over time
I’m all for replacing human judges with AI
human judges are flawed and come with personal preferences for their favored styles tactics and techniques
the only metric that matters is clean punching. The cleaner puncher for that round is the effective aggressor, smarter ring general, and better defender
AI will set a solid standard for scoring boxing
This turns boxing into a fairer sport. Every fighter will know ahead of time I must be the cleaner puncher to win the round
I don't disagree with human judges having flaws and personal preferance and all for more technology intervention, but the definition of the term "clean punching" is also extremely hard to coin without having some kind of human preference which makes it hard. Would damage amount matter in this case? What about balance of aggression throughout the whole round?
Suppose boxer A started out the round by lashing out a flurry of jabs where two of them strikes "cleanly" on the opponent between boxer B's guard, then comes in for a combination and gets another "clean punch" to the body though it doesn't really give any notable lasting damage. B returns fire as well, but A immediately backs up and the punches all hit the arm he is guarding with. On the last minute, A comes in again trying to land more punches, but gets hit by B's huge counter punch to the body. Boxer A manages to not get knocked down from it but is obviously hurt, and spends the last minute clamped in a shell while running for his life backpedaling and clinching and doing everything to not get another clean punch, and barely survived until the bell.
Overall, boxer A had more "clean punches" with 3 total and a higher punch hit % as he threw far less total, but did he really "win" the round?
Nope
They are in talks with Netflix
Netflix is trying to compete with Prime and are willing to get into combat sports hence MVP
Oh, well lets hope that doesn't hinder with Top Rank guys fighting with the DAZN guys.
As someone in Japan right now my preference of platform is Amazon > Netflix >>>>> DAZN for the sake of easy access but hopefully Netflix gets their streaming service up to par in that case.
When historians look back on PBC I wonder if they will be seen as being bad for the sport?
They fragmented the boxing world even more than it already was and HBO/Showtime got out of the game soon after.
And further irony is that they are still on the "other side of the street" now that they are on Amazon while Matchroom/Queensbury/Top Rank/Golden Boy are all on DAZN.
In a perfect world I wish Turki would've used Amazon Prime or Netflix as his main platform instead of DAZN, as that would've brought all major US/UK promotions on the same
Also, another thing to consider is that Teiken also uses Amazon Prime Japan (although they are more willing to cross promote regardless of platform), so that basically would've covered world wide.
I thought it already got confirmed that Top Rank was fully joining DAZN.
As for PBC, the Amazon Prime deal isn't really that big if they aren't providing funding for the cards and just providing a PPV platform, which seems like it is just that. Looking back, how did it go in hindsight and would 2025 be better or worse?
2024:
Mar 30th- Tszyu vs Fundora, Rollie vs Pitbull (PPV)
May 4th- Canelo vs Munguia (PPV)
Jun 15th- Tank vs Martin, Benavidez vs Gvozdyk (PPV)
Sep 14th- Canelo vs Berlanga (PPV)
Oct 19th- Tszyu vs Murtazaliev
2025 plans so far:
Feb 1st- Benavidez vs Morrell, Figueroa vs Fulton (PPV)
March?- Tank vs Roach (probably PPV)
???- Fundora vs Spence? (likely PPV given the lack of fighters)
Canelo's contract seems to be over and Tszyu will need some rebuilding before they can main event him, but what are they gonna do for the 2nd half? Hope for another Tank fight and winner of the Davids?
Thank God he is awake.
Great fight and great for Australian boxing, proper shootout that.
He didn't go down without a fight :boxing:
Opetaia was too much of a step up, but in the 3R he was there Nyika gave a great fight and entertaining until it ended. He should rest and heal for a while and hopefully get an opportunity for a good ranked contender on a good card when he returns this winter or so.
That's the joke that it would be funny if it was build up in that way because of the minor connections they do have. Magsayo hired Freddie in the past to be like Pacman, and Tank always been hyped up as the dude brought up by Floyd.
I know its a joke but if he really ends up replacing Roach they are gonna have to put quite a twist to hype up Magsayo. At least Roach was a "current world titlist" (from a division below).
Speaking of replacement I wonder when they are gonna announce the backup replacement for Inoue-Goodman fight because Ohashi mentioned he's gonna get one for January as they can't afford another extention or cancellation.
Serious question, is there any legit viable reason other than knowing something shady that would make refusing VADA testing understandable? Is Morrell super scared of needles or something?
That is why I posted this
Not sure what to make of all this
Apparently there is Vada testing even though Morrell is against it
Testing really should be a requirement for all fights for all organizations if you ask me, at the least anything involving ranked fighters or titles should have one.
I mean, a baseball player can't refuse testing if they are picked by MLB to randomly test.
The irony for Pierce is that after talking big about Inoue getting dropped by Cardenas, he gets dropped by a guy who's prime was in bantamweight and got destroyed by Inoue, and currently unranked at featherweight...and was losing in the scorecards until the KO.
One thing for certain, he isn't winning a belt any time soon unless he vastly improves.
I guess nothing is impossible and who knows maybe he does become a legend one day, but frankly I am genuinely wondering exactly what you saw in his performance against Heita today (which wasn't that impressive to begin with) that gave you such high hopes for a guy who is 28 yrs old already.
Potential World Champion, however don't think I saw enough to say he be a legend.
Nowadays with luck and emails and vacant belts it isn't impossible, but of the current four beltholders I don't see him having a great chance at any of them.
I mean according to this site, the historically known boxing related media was inappropriate too, I guess Ring magazine is too racist for the AI?
Edit: oh my, I guess they took off MAGA from the censor list now that the President Trump is back in the office.
The "Monster's" next opp -
David Picasso (30-0-1, 17 KOs) (whoopdeefckingdoo.....................)
Usyk vs DuBoy (Yay.........)
Bud vs some bum ?
Biv vs Beter 2 is the best match up
After Nelo dispatches Scull, I'm hoping he goes after the winner.
Again, the "bum" Crawford is fighting next in his annual fight of the year is none other than Canelo in September. The moment Canelo vs Scull got verified that was also verified unfortunately by Turki.
I doubt Bud will sit around til Sept
How biut that Picasso guy
The "Monster" gonna take another 0 :lol1:
It effin sucks and I hate Top Rank for being picky but can't be helped at this point so atleast pray it gets moved to May and MJ occurs later this year.
Oh, and eff Goodman while I'm at it. Still pissed at him.
Is there an unwritten on this forum that there has to be an Inoue hater posing as an obnoxious fan who posts extreme hyperbole idiocy regarding Inoue baiting others to slam it down immediately and lead it into a lol Inoue fans are delusional or something?
The short answer is no, by the way.
I didn't read the whole thread but is this OP's way of sh!tting on Canelo that either he was so washed to the point that Canelo looked like he threw the fight, or the OP is implying that Canelo has lost any little bit of respect and honor as a professional boxer and got enough money paid to him to be convinced to throw the match and thus be bashed for fraud?
Yeah Arum, I know old people get stubborn but just put away your difference and hug with Eddie and make Inoue-MJ just happen already. It probably won't sell well and I admit that even as a huge Inoue fan, but it is the best opponent left available at this point in 122 and atleast it is good enough to shut up the haters about the idiocy of making cash cows fight outside their cash cow zone.
By the way I think Picasso saw Nakatani destroy Cueller and came to his senses.
