If wilder was overrated, that to me takes away what fury did, which was an incredible performance. Wilder is always going to have an issue with Fury, who has surprisingly excellent boxing IQ, good upper body movement and great balance. Wilder up to this point did basically everything one could and should do professionally. A loss doesnt take away who he is, Fury is a superior fighter. However i still would pick Wilder over Joshua because i still think Wilders height and power would be an issue. I absolutely could be wrong, but thats why they fight the fights.

Yea boring thread on deck but anyone whos ever fought understand this. It was spence's jab and his power yea, but the footwork and maintaining his distance, his patience and knowing when to move is what impressed me tonight. Garcia couldnt close the distance nor could he feint his way inside because Spence ability to move, cut off the ring when needed and his uncanny ring generalship kept the fight at a PERFECT distance to complete neutralize everything Garcia had to offer. The timed body attack in the second half of the fight, but also especially on the inside in the phone booth where Spence pushed off, rotated and continued to pick his shots, there was no real accessable pattern for garcia to work off of. Fight was just a beautiful combination of intelligence and action, Garcia's chin is what kept him up. I feel like the footwork aspect of the fight cant be overlooked at all

For me watching the fight (i am disabled, most of you dont know, but i was shot twice a year ago i can barely walk and lost most of my right arm usage cept my fingers) I noticed that kovalev constantly bending down to ward (no pun) off the body shots, and his constant begging to the ref for assistance said alot to me. Ricky Hatton took matters into his own hands when Tszyu dished him a low one to send a message. When Kovalev turned around that did it for me, when you turn away from a fighter youre looking for someone to save you. Mentally Kovalev seems to be out of his element when he cant simply knock you out. You have to make a guy like ward PAY for his transgressions, guys like mayweather hopkins, chavez mastered this stuff, being cagey while knowing where the ref is and engaging. Kovalev isnt the beast we thought he was, he was just another above average fighter with great knock out power, what seperates good from great is when everything isnt stacked in your favor and you do something about it. Even mayweather wont let you get away with stuff like this (see victor ortiz)

I dont know why i am thinking about this, but i remember looking back on the de la hoya pac fight, i remmber feeling like de la hoya would have some issues because against mayweather, against forbes even against arturo gatti, de la hoya would something crouch to his opposition and try to fight them on their level, i remember the idea that calderon was smacking up de la hoya was unbelievable but looking back on this story really made me think that i should have probably put money on pacquiao in hindsight. If you havent been watching mayweather his last few fights, or really since the de la hoya fight you would say something like this. Mayweather since age 30 has basically been standing and using minimal movement and laying against the ropes lately. the strategy of constant movement and uusing his legs to create opportunities has basically been removed in alot of ways. What does happen is fighters tend to watch his every move and sort of cut down their own punch output. Maidanas best chance against floyd is now, what little chance he does have lies in the fact that at 37 his legs can get old over night and that maidana has shown that he can break a stationary defense in practice, AND I SAY PRACTICE. Floyd does more than the shoulder roll, he gives several unique looks every few rounds. Also, i thought this fight would satisfy the people on here saying that "floyd saw himself in the broner loss and would duck maidana" nobody wanted the kahn fight, but now nobody wants this fight? knowing bradley and pacquiao are tied up and are in a promotional war regardless, you guys just pull opponents out of your ass. Thurman/Lara etc. while those are decent fights, what credit would he get for those, especially if it was a chess match? the same credit he gets for beating hatton/canelo etc people he supposedly ducked. at least with maidana there is no issue as to his credbility and visibility. its not the greatest fight but its viable for the time being made and would earn him a belt should he win.

i was thinking about this the other day, Lineares before getting hit **** pushed in by salgado was getting international level hype and was seen as the next p4p great champion until that night in 2009 in japan. i was thinking about this because this would actually be a respectable opponent that broner could actually beat, lineares, i dont know how much hes improved if at all since the demarco fight but if i was broners magamenent, and im not because because im a dumbass, i would definately put him in with lineares. lineares defense is just as leaky as broners and in the later rounds i dont know how hed hold up to the fact that broner is actually pretty accurate. it would require lineares to move up to 140 and i dont know how comfortable he would be there. but id like to see it.

in both situations you had a marquee name taking on a high risk low reward p4p fighter for considerably less money in a move that altered both fighters careers. at first, many people didint think much of wright/mosley because at the time, wright was simply a guy who had lost his biggest fight to fernando vargas, but had credible showings against guys like bronco mckart, and a few others, but he never had that big name on his resume because presumably no one would take him on. his loss against vargas imo was questionable. Pacquiao, with all thats been said about the mayweather negotiations, no matter how you spin it, would have made more money than fighting bradley. there is no way this fight grosses as much as mayweather/pac. even if pac is on the shorter side of whatever the revenue would be, it would have still killed whatever this fight is gonna do, because lets face it..bradley has no name whatsoever. its a situation where logically taking on a guy like bradley makes very little career sense, for mosley i felt exactly the same way, why not take on de la hoya for far more money as opposed to taking on a guy like wright? granted people love the idea of champions taking on anyone, but i also believe in properly guiding your career. this fight against bradley could honestly backfire if bradley comes in with the right strategy. bradley isnt as dangerous as wright was, but in contrast if pacquiao loses, he loses ALL leverage in a pacquiao mayweather fight, he loses his p4p ranking and loses his aura and will be stuck either rematching bradley or watch bradley take on mayweather in a war of undefeated's if mayweather beats cotto. this fight had no build, no rivalry nothing, just out of nowhere bradley is number one. i sincerely still think pacquiaos team wont put him in with mayweather unless they want to cash out, but bradley doesnt make much sense either. i hope i dont bump this thread june 9th by being right.

Just before the margarito fight on the failed espn ppv (a ppv in which they advertised the potential rounds 4 fights x12 rounds as a selling point). On Greg Leons formally interesting blog ********** there was so much talk about how cintron was just too powerful for his own good. He was green with little to no amatuer background and Margarito pretty much came and derailed his career and in my opinion he hasnt ever truely recovered. it always seems like theres some issue with him, when he had steward there was a problem, then its the promoters then its this and that. The Williams fight for me was just the last straw, i see no reason to pull for this guy as he is sort of a journeyman at welterweight to me now

I have noticed that the usual marketing ploys arent working this time, most die hard pinoys see right through it as well. I guess they went to the well too many times. This fight is so pointless people at work ask me about it and i literally have no answer because i just dont care. Two guys who have no real following, no real buzz, and there was virtually no buildup at all. I fee like the plan was to simply have some mexicans on the undercard fight and hope and wish that mora's contender and mosleys prior fame would carry the card. If the objective from mayweather was clearly "no cutoff" on random testing, offering a fight is sort of pointless. Bending for 14 days to me is just for show. Clearly it worked, i hear all this about how floyd should accept this or that, but if Arum had no intention of offering a deal with no test cutoffs, i wish this circus would have been circumvented by arum just going ahead and negotiating the margarito fight. so this idea that he would avoid fighting in texas to use pain killer on his hands is stupid. most of you havent been anywhere near a boxing gym in your entire lives, a ton of fighters have used/still use it for training purposes. most of your favorite fighters have as well. there likely isnt a credible gym that DOESNT have some form of it available for fighters with brittle hands. I can remember my right hand breaking so often when i was 14 it made me want to stop doing the sport, which i eventually did. I would try to train and get in shape, then have my hand so bruised and hurting so badly i could barely do my homework, i simply didint have the heart to tough it out, so this idea that "oh floyd is the only person who uses this" is bull. Most of you hang onto this issue like your lives depend on it. The fact is, floyd would arrive in dallas for a few days, he wouldnt be training there, so illegal or not, it doesnt matter. Alot of you need to let this go.

Something i notice you do is you dont pay attention to the fact that styles determine fights, they determine how the fight will play out. Styles make fights, and i notice you often pick fighters based on weather or not you simply like them or you want them to win etc. You have to realize that alot of your predictions are more or less based on things you feel are intangibles you think make the fighter you like better. With the Martinez/Williams fight and now with the Pavlik/Martinez fight, i dont know if its you not respecting Martinez or what, but you need to pay attention to the styles and dont vehemently stick to one position.
