Two guys who have no real following, no real buzz, and there was virtually no buildup at all. I fee like the plan was to simply have some mexicans on the undercard fight and hope and wish that mora's contender and mosleys prior fame would carry the card.
Mora to me could have been a superstar right now, foolishly avoiding jermaine taylor because of the fact that there were "not enough mexicans to support him arkansas" is one of the more pathetic excuses i have seen not to fight.
Mora has no power, which isnt a big deal, but his last 2 fights have really shown who he is to me. He couldnt make weight ok, but then in similar fashion to his last fight on the jones jr/hopkins undercard he decides to do his usual movement, holding, hitting while throwing power punch once every 2 or 3 rounds. Just a pathetic performence overall.
For mosley i think he did what he could with what he had to offer. I just dont see how he possibly lost a round. I also dont see how hes so "shot" and "finished" he didint look all that different from the mayweather fight to me. He was also fighting a guy whos a career middleweight with a solid chin.
Saul Alavarez is whatever to me, yall can ride his dikk if you want but Baldomir has sort of strayed the path since the vernon forrest fight IMO.
Regardless the Ortiz/Harris fight was interesting just because Harris has sukked since getting stopped by Maussa in pathetic fashion. He should just give it up.
either way it was a lackluster card and had boxing after dark written all over it.
these ppvs make the sport even less interesting than it already is.
Oh I know but when they buy the fight for a free showing on HBO it becomes more expensive for HBO. It's actually less expensive for them to host it on PPV for some reason.
It's pretty simple actually. Fights on regular HBO are paid for by all HBO subscribers regardless if they watch them or not. HBO is paying for the exclusive broadcast to the event. HBO (ie subscribers to the network) is paying the fighters to fight.
When a fight is on HBO PPV those who buy the PPV are basically paying for the broadcast and the fighters. HBO is only funding the production costs (or not, it probably depends on their deal with the promotion).
HBO PPV you are directly paying for the fight. HBO you are indirectly paying for a fight with your monthly fee.

funding a regular hbo fight comes out of their boxing budget.
plus it's not like hbo charges anything to show the fight on regular hbo.
it was on HBO ppv. meaning it was their choice.

top rank doesnt even try. on top of that ,their little ethnic oriented PPVs "pinoy power" and "latin fury" are so shameless its hard for me to get the words out without feeling embarassed
Well, can't speak much on latin fury but only the 1st pinoy power was any good. Then, it gets worst each time out.
Lolz. I would imagine the latin fury has a similar trend.

It really wasn't PPV quality but I would differ in opinion on the undercard. I liked it and better than most the undercard that we are used to seeing. As for the main event, they tried to hype it and sounded real funny especially if you know how Mora fights.
As for Mosley, he was past his prime a long time ago. Mora's style is not a style he handles well. IMO, He is the same fighter as in the Mayorga fight. People were just caught up with the Marg win.
they still have to pay their broadcasters/production team....
because if it were that easy, why didn't hbo ppv pick up hopkins/jones II?
that's not the point.
the point is they're not funding the fight like they would if it was on regular hbo.
just because they picked up mora/mosley for hbo ppv doesn't mean hbo picks up every lame ass fight.
they don't want to waste their budget on mosley/mora.
on ppv , they pay nothing and they still get a cut.

your right. i had forgotten how ppv rules work on network tv.

In defense of Mora, it seems like he does fight better when the opponent has upset him, which is what he said about when he fought Forrest, maybe he needed Shane to be a jerk to inspire him to perform? I saw both Mora's fight with Forrest, and one thing he showed me in those fights, he does not lack heart or grit, so that Mosley performance does have me going hmmm!
Thats being a bit generous dont you think ? round 4 was one of Mora's better rounds, as was round 9 or 11 if i recall, cant remember which one of those two, but i had him winning both those rounds. I think Shane won personally, but Mora did win more than 1 round imo.
To me, Mosley has not looked great since the Cotto win, that win legitimized to me just how far past his best Shane was, whilst he beat Margacheato, I always! maintained that was a smoke screen, that the Mayweather fight would not be competitive, both i and Domincano Soy said that, and he is a Mayweather fan.
Mexican-Americans love and support boxing.
Put a boxing card on Mexican independence day and it will sell.
It's a matter price elasticity. The quality doesnt matter, the people will buy it.
It's like Pacquiao having a fight in Manila. He could be fighting Glass Joe and would sell out an arena.
Well when HBO doesn't want the fight and Showtime offers little to no money what do you want them to show it on the internet LOL!
it was on HBO ppv. meaning it was their choice.
Golden Boy Promotions have the best undercard line-ups tho almost everytime. Top Rank has the worst!
