Canelo is a small JMW, believe me. I've met him and he isn't big at the weight. Trout is a big JMW and will be much stronger on May 4th. Canelo is no bigger than Victor Ortiz who is an absolute monster of a welterweight.
but no Erik Morales or even JMM  A sin of the highest order. Based on skill and resume, Morales would cruise into my personal top 10.
The lighter weights get really discriminated. If we're talking about pure skills you're not going to include Finito Lopez?Lopez was in the running but most Latino's went with Chavez and the 3 modern greats.
Canelo is a small JMW. I met him a few months ago in New York and he just isn't that big compared to other JMW's i've met including Trout and Jorge Melendez. He's a bit like Froch in the sense that if there was a weight division between his and the one below him, that's where he'd be. Welterweight was getting a bit hard for him so they moved him up a weight but kept him going against the fighters from the division below. Going into the ring with 140 guy Josesito Lopez, he was actually the lighter fighter. Even though Victor Ortiz can make welterweight, he maybe bigger than Canelo. There really wouldn't be that much in it between them. These guys at ESPN really need to stop talking about boxing because they know nothing about the sport.
Someone should dup this poll on here so we can find which forum is over ran with the most idiots. I think boxingasylum will take the cake on this one.99% of the votes came from twitter, not a forum. I purposely stayed away from big sites like BS.com and ESB because so many people have agendas on the sites.

Pac's no 1!
From the unbias voter, yes he was. By a mile. Pacquiao was the only fighter to get a ****load of votes from each countries fans. If I had near as many Pinoy followers who could see the tweets and retweet like the other groups did, he would probably have pipped Roy to number 1. Roy did take it pretty clearly though. Floyd and Manny were only separated with around 25 votes.
this poll was prolly made in Wales for him to be even mentionThe poll was conducted via twitter and BA. What I found with the voting was the majority of Brits went with Lennox or Joe, the majority of Americans went with Floyd and Roy and Latino's votes were scattered on Chavez, Morales, Barrera and JMM. Manny was truly the only fighter who got a lot of votes from each group.
And you honestly Believe That Now? When I see Mayweather Videos when he is not fight, it is usually him Counting His Money or doing something that pretains to Money...how many times have you seen Mayweather Walking Around With His Belts an Counting His Belts? lol
Mayweather only say he cares about Legacy and Fans during the PRE FIGHT STUFF like Press Conferences and Interviews before the fight to sale the PPV's and Tickets but for the most part it is ALL ABOUT THE MONEY!I believe he'll take the easiest option that can make him money. He walked away from $60m....What am i supposed to believe?
Mayweather told use plenty of times that he "DON'T FIGHT FOR LEGACY" Only when it suits him. Sometimes when he's asked about the hardest fights he'll say it's not about money and he's thinking of his legacy or love of the sport.

Why fight Margarito for 8 million when he can fight Baldomir for 10 million and the belt? And on top of that, get a fight with Oscar de la Hoya next. Yes from a fan's perspective, I would have wanted him to fight Margarito over Baldomir as well. But from a fighter's perspective, I would do what makes sense financially. People use the term "duck" too freely here. Fighters are human. Yesterday, I told my friend I was going to take her out. Unfortunately, I got sick. This is what I'm allowed to get away with. Or how about this. Two years ago, I got offered a job. The pay was good. I was satisfied with it. But another offer came up who was willing to pay more. I took that job instead. Why? Because financially, it just simply made more sense.
And Martinez hasn't fought in Junior Middleweight in 5 years. Plus the fact that he's 40 years old. I'm pretty sure he's a middleweight fighter now.He didn't get 10 to face Baldomir. Baldomir wasn't even his first choice opponent, that deal was done late. They wanted Cory Spinks at 154lbs. Spinks priced himself out the fight. Floyd made $5m against Zab, the Margarito offer was made before he faced Zab. What excuse you got for that?
of course we all wanted to see those fights. bu the thread question asks will Mayweather ever fight someone we want to. In 08, floyd couldn't give you those fights primarily because those boxers promoter wouldn't work with him for reasons we had discussed.
its like you are saying you only wanted to see floyd fight cotto when he was undefeated. why did cotto have to be undefeated? are you saying once miguel lost did that make him unfit for a floyd fight?
So Mayweather did give you a cotto fight as soon as he could, when Cotto left TR. Manny and Margs never left TR so floyd couldn't give them to you.
your conclusion was floyd didn't give you the fights because he fights the guys who bring the most cash for the least risk. then you cited these fights as examples of that conclusion. these fights in no way support that conclusion.Maybe it was Floyd who wouldn't work with Bob..
Probably the best article I've read in a while which doesn't start with "fighter of the decade Manny Pacquiao...."
So eloquently put yet at the same time thought provoking. Green K that man. Thanks Harry :bacop:
Like who????
Please list the names and exactly when he shouldve fought them and over who.
Go.Margarito pre-retirement
Pacquiao post-retirement
Sergio Martinez now
who do you want him to fight at 147? or would u only be happy with him fighting someone bigger at 154? we all know he only comes in at 150 on fight night as is at 154 just seems no one will be happy no matter what he doesMayweather is a 2x champion at 154lbs and he's likely to face Canelo Alvarez there in September. He should face Sergio Martinez at 150lbs, like Martinez suggested.
Funny how the writer didn't mention Mosley. You know, the guy that interrupted Floyd's post fight interview? The guy that people said Floyd would never fight because he was a real welterweight? The guy that suddenly became shot 5 months later when Floyd signed to fight him? Yeah that guy.Mosley fight was everyone's second choice. Everyone wanted Mayweather-Pacquiao over that fight.
So in another words, he should have fought bunch of Top Rank fighters and a middleweight who already has a fight lined up as we speak. Yes he's willing to come down to 154....at the weigh in..Floyd was with Top Rank when the Margarito offer was made. He was offered the fight before he fought Zab Judah.
Sergio Martinez is not a middleweight he moved up to get fights. He has said he will come down to 150lbs. Thats 3lbs over Welterweight and 4lbs under Light Middleweight.
Also Pacquiao gets all the credit in the world for fighting Marquez four times while Mayweather gets ZERO credit for fighting Marquez after a long layoff. And dont begin with the "he cheats the weight" because weight had zero effect on how the fight went on. Floyd didnt dominate marquez by bullying him with his weightAnother Floyd Mayweather fans favourite thing to do is bring up Manny Pacquiao.
A set limit? Uhh yeah...based on what the fight sells.Floyd claims he was being paid very well under Arum. Considering he was only on a 4m-5m guarantee for Judah but claims to have made 12m from a PPV that done 450k buys. Dont sound to me like he was being underpaid.
This is a fighter who claims one fight that legacy doesn't pay the bills and the next fight says it's not about money and it's legacy and the fans what matters...
Unfortunately, that tells me nothing regarding this "set limit" you invented in your headWhy would I need to invent something? I've no agenda here. Cant same the same about you. You're probably one of the guys who believes Floyd keeps all his money though and GBP, Roger and everyone else around him all work for free.
For Floyd to fight Margarito he had to re-sign with Top Rank
Margarito wasn't worth **** at that time, people forget Floyd was the fighter being avoided until he started bringing in the big moneyThe offer was made by Arum before Floyd fought Zab.

Enjoy your night, man.Two different meanings. One quote is talking percentages and the other is talking overall revenue.
Schools out...
Explained below
Nobody said there's a limit on what a promoter can make. Whats being said is the promoter get a certain agreed on percentage from whats agreed on the initial contract.
Possibly. If someone was under-paying me, I wouldn't want to work with them either.
There's a set limit a promoter can take. If Floyd wasn't happy with what Arum's cut was, he shouldn't have signed with him in the first place.
it doesnt matter if floyd would have fought margarito or pacquaio because excuses would have been made as to how he won in the first place. floyd has never gotten credit for his wins so why would these two be any different. when he beat castillo, corrales, hatton, de la hoya, mosley, ortiz, cotto, marquez, and judah there was always an excuse. and out of those names i say only 2 of them (de la hoya and mosley) were shot at the time. and for the smaller fighters accusation, are you serious? champions fight guys coming up in weight all the time. when he went up in weight and won titles was he not the smaller man in that situation. no on criticized those fighters so why criticize floyd. it seems that no one else gets criticized for fighting smaller guys besides mayweather.
i also say it wasnt all floyds fault that the pacquiao fight didnt happen. people seem to forget that in the initial negotiations floyd agreed to all of pacquiaos terms. all he asked in return was for both of them to go through olympic style drug tesing. pacquaio made every excuse from fear of weakness (really?), and to phobia of needles (doesnt he have tattoos?). everybody seems to have forgotten about that. i'm wondering why people are still talking about pac and floyd. if they were to fight and floyd wins people will just use his loss to marquez as an excuse for the victory. they would say that he didnt fight a prime manny, but mayweather is no longer in his prime either so it would be even. but just like any other victory excuses will be made. if he fights guerrero in may and wins people will say floyd picked on a smaller guy again, even though guerrero just beat the **** out of berto who is a legit welterweight. also he will become one dimensional and not a good figher all of sudden even though fans begged for the matchup. if canelo wins the undercard he will fight floyd in september. if floyd wins canelo will become an underated one-dimensional fighter which would have contributed to the win.
the point im making is floyd will never get the credit he deserves for his victories so who he fights or didnt fight doesnt matter.I stopped reading your post after the bit that's bolded.
There is no limit on what a promoter can make because his percentage is based on the fight's revenue.
Nobody said there's a limit on what a promoter can make. Whats being said is the promoter get a certain agreed on percentage from whats agreed on the initial contract.
I'll dumb it down for you....
Say Floyd signs a 5 fight deal with Arum. Written into that contract will be Arum's cut. Arum cant turn around after 3 of those fights and suddenly just up the money he is taking.
Whatever money he's taken, Floyd has inked his name and agreed to it.
And from what he claims to have made from those fights. He done very well for himself.
Why would you need to invent something? Hmm you tell me. Explain what you mean by "set limit on what a promoter can make"? The floor is yours. When a fighter signs a contract with a promoter there's a percentage wrote into the contract of how much of the money the promoter gets a % of.
If Arum had actually been robbing Floyd, Floyd would have won in court. From what I remember it was actually Floyd and his team who owed Arum money. When that came out, this case suddenly went quiet and Floyd never spoke of it since.
Claims he was paid $8m for Sharmba Mitchell....
Bob musta been robbing him again when he was paid that I guess....
You said 10 years. You are a missing a hell of a lot of fighters. Try again.Yes 10 years. If you read my article you'll see I said it wasn't all his fault at 140lbs though. Being at HBO and Kostya being at Showtime stopped that one from happening but there was another fighters out there better than Chop-Chop and Henry Brussels. Nobody would have had any complaints had he faced Vivian Harris or Sharmba Mitchell when they had belts. As I said though, any fighter would have taken the Gatti fight and Kostya was on Showtime. It was hard for him to face the best but those fights wern't the one's i'd have chosen.
