Algieri by SD. He's got a good work rate, very well conditioned, much longer, adversity (like getting his eye socket bludgeoned in the first round) is nothing to him, he's got a Tim Bradley-like work ethic in training camp, and he is too smart for Pacquiao IMO.
<1,000,000 PPV buys for a Mayweather fight is a flop.
Showtime has got to do something big to recoup that $250 million they donated to Floyd.
IF these PPV figures are accurate, there's no reason for me to believe Mayweather/Maidana 2 will break 1 million PPV buys either.
Didn't take long for HBO to turn things around post-Haymon. I'll be surprised if Showtime Championship Boxing doesn't retire along with Floyd after his contract ends.
Looks like K2 and GGG fans overestimated his worth. I guess they thought the viewership was gonna translate into live gate.
Nope.
And after re-reading the article, the prices are almost the same as Cotto. They're f*cking crazy. Their fault I guess for wanting the big theater.
This is true. Ticket prices for a PPV event should never be comparable to non-PPV event no matter the venue.
With Geale winning after dropping him twice.
Wrong, GGG dominated Geale.

Oh how the term "duck" gets thrown around this site the last thing real boxing fans need is your 65 posts using "duck", "diva" or whatever ignorant word of the month. Last I checked team Canelo broke off negotiations mid January for a fight likely be fought in May-June.
Cotto is a Puerto Rican coward who knows he will get destroyed again if he dared to get in the ring with the likes of Canelo. Lemieux should fight Cotto next so he can knock his 2nd Puerto Rican out in a row.
when u build ur rep off saying u will fight anyone from 154-168 then ya hes ducking aqnd of course its a ppv is he crazy?
Ward-Golovkin is in no way shape or form a PPV caliber matchup. Neither of these guys is a recognizable name to casuals.
GGG is a HBO star and rightfully so. He has produced KO's in his last 14 fights I believe. The competition has been a bunch of no names to be honest. Geale will be his toughest test to date. Froch and Chavez are household names for sure, but Ward even more so. He'll make a bundle of money if he travels to England to fight Froch. If he wins convincingly than the fight with Ward would be a no brainer. Ward needs to get his contract settled and back in the ring. But any boxing fan would pay to see that fight. Loeffler is bull****ting saying that this fight is not a money fight. Lets see it
Ward even more of a household name than Chavez or Froch? What planet are you living on?
Dude needs to go to 168, nothing for him at 160, Froch and chavez, wouldn't even bother with ward dude cant sell for **** and would probably beat him anyway
Except for a lineal title.
Everyone is the "most feared/avoided" until they're in a position to call shots. Then they become "cherry pickers."
Sorry, who else wants to fight GGG besides the lineal champion in a weight class above him?
I find the GGG hate humerous ... there is literally nothing to dislike about the guy unless you got race/nationality issues.
A lot of the same people who hate seeing the ONE Filipino star on Earth shine are the same people who hate seeing the ONE Kazakh star on Earth shine.
sorry, who's andre ward?
i seem to remember him fighting a long ass time ago
heard he was in court with his promoter
lol
Lol
lmao...putting a spin on his own fighters words. He said what he said and we'll accept it as that without the spin. It doesn't take away from froch not one bit just shows he's a smart dude and at least has the balls to say own up to it unlike some other folks at 160 (quillin) who refuse to even acknowledge the man exists. I respect froch for saying what he said, it makes him no less of a man or a fighter.
^^^^^^^^^100%
First big test? :AOR: WTF is up with all these SO CALLED top notch boxers fighting no names with no resumes :wtf:
Seeing this post made so shamelessly from a guy with your avi/sig made me lol
Respect Canelo's heart but he'll have a hard time getting through Cotto let alone GGG! Sparring is one thing. Throwing meaningful punches is another.. We'll see how Canelo stands up to Cotto power because he hasn't faced a bigger puncher yet imo...
Toughest part of the Cotto fight for Canelo will be negotiating with Cotto.
Word was Canelo handled GGG in sparring. The handspeed and combos troubled him. I know its just sparring, but people make GGG out to be a god. Hes never faced an elite fighter. Not his fault but thats the reality of it.
Its all here lads, I wouldn't exactly say Canelo did a job on him...

Did y'all read this article? Fischer clearly writes about how in over his head Canelo was, but how he managed to hold it together.
The takeaway from this article should be HBO's ability to create and build its stars. Showtime only knows how to market stars HBO created. Showtime doesn't even know what to do with Keith Thurman. A fighter like Thurman would be a ratings hit on HBO. Even guys like Viktor Postol get seen by at least 1 million viewers on the standard HBO undercard.
You may be right.
It appears that Schafer was trying to fool GGG's team into getting in a bidding war. But he has to know that he can't dictate the terms for this fight because his fighter is not on the same level. If he's serious and understands Quillin's value, he knows that they have to fight on HBO if they ever want a chance. I guess we'll know in a couple weeks when Schafer makes one of his statements to boxingscene. If he truly believes that this fight requires a bid then imo that is a ducking tactic on his part.
Shaeffer has no intention of ever making this fight. He and Espinoza won't risk losing their only MW belt to HBO before Canelo makes the inevitable move up to 160. Shaeffer also knows that Showtime Boxing has its own fan base that aligns closely with that of Floyd Mayweather's. He knows that even the emptiest of counteroffers are seen as 100% sincere and a genuine effort to do business by these Showtime supporters.
Can't be serious, Algieri has the punching power of a newborn, I'm pretty sure that Floyd would have no problems breaking him apart. Maidana can put anyone to sleep at any given moment, so he is a way more dangerous opponent than pillow fist Algieri, and Pacquiao should knock him out within 3 rounds.
Maidana wouldn't win a round against Algieri.
Brook reminded me a lot of Andre Ward in there. I know, I know. I'll most likely get slaughtered for making the comparison, but Brook's power jab is something you don't see from too many fighters anymore. Every time Porter came rushing in, he was met with Brook's jab and it disrupted his attack. That and the heads-up clinching was very Ward-like IMO.
1 fight at a time. You still have Murray and perhaps Korobov to deal with first.
Which brings us to Summer of 2015 given GGG's activity. Gotta respect a guy who fights 4 times a year.
I think it's more of a business move, being this is their first time getting into boxing.
I'm surprised others don't occasionally snag purse bids more often.
I agree and said same in other threads on this topic.

You guys are spot on. They were simply dead set on hosting a high level boxing event in 2014. My guess is they didn't want to let a world title fight slip through their fingers so they overpaid to ensure the win.
Graciano Rocchigiani should have never settled out of court with the WBC after they stripped him of his WBC Light Heavyweight title to give back to Roy Jones. Rocchigiani should have just let them go bankrupt. It would be nice to have one less belt floating around each weight division, especially when its sanctioning body pulls stunts like this.
Postol is a better boxer than Herrera. He has a better jab than Herrera, higher output, better footwork, and a higher KO ratio. Postol also has a 3-inch reach advantage on Garcia just like Herrera did. Danny won't get inside.
Not a chance this fight happens.

According to this boxing schedule, Canelo will be the co-headliner for Cotto's December 13th date.... on regular fcking HBO!
 :boxing:
One could argue that since Lara put the PPV audience to sleep in their fight, Canelo is now forced to go off PPV for this fight to show the casual boxing crowd he's really not that boring. After that stinker Lara made us all pay for, I could see a lot of people taking a pass on anymore Canelo PPVs until he fights a Cotto. Guilt by association. That's why they're going with action fighters.
