No one has really mentioned the weight difference yet. Do you think that will play a big part in the fight? I know Dawson isnt a big LHW but surely dropping down to super middle will affect him in some areas? I think it is a tough one to pick but would probably pick Ward to win by a couple of rounds. I think he has more of a winners mentality.
On paper this should be a huge fight, how often do the #1s in two consecutive divisions face each other? Shame that not many people care about this fight. Guess its bigger in the USA because they're both American but I get the impression that even over there people are interested in the result but not too excited for the fight itself. Thats the problem with Ward, even though he puts in fantastic performances its hard to get fully behind him because he's not interesting to watch.
Alright All,
I'm new in here so bear with me, I've been reading through a lot of the posts on here and find them really helpful.
I myself am training for a white collar boxing match in a few weeks time and would like your opinions on white collar, I dont mind negative feedback either just be good to have a bit of debate.
I have been making a blog about the journey I have taken so far and it can be found by looking for white collar boxing blog in google, and it is called White Collar Boxing London
Cheers - I would add the url but new on here!
Hey mate, anyone who gets in the ring deserves respect so you get plenty from me! Will check out your blog in a bit. You can get great training wherever you live in London. I used to live in Finchley and there's a great gym there (Chisora's haunt!) plus so many to choose from round east / central London.
Where is your fight being held? I love a bit of boxing, might come along and watch!
Seriously though, full respect and best of luck with your journey. Anyone who says otherwise is what the French would call a cunt.
is he still a decent promoter in the uk ?
i heard a lot of fighters get stuck with him n legal problems
any one feed any info pls
Hi mate
Frank comes in for a lot of stick partly because he doesnt seem the most likeable of chaps and has a history of legal battles with his marquee fighters (Hatton, Calzaghe etc.). The treatment of Calzaghe was nothing short of disgusting and obviously that tarnishes the view of Mr W.
However, Boxnation against all odds actually looks like it will be a success now he has additional investment. So if your friend is at an early stage of his career it would be a good option to sign with him as he will get plenty of TV dates assuming Boxnation continues. And like it or not, Warren is the proven best in the UK at developing fighters through the pro ranks. I do like Eddie but I'm not sure he's the best for development of a young fighter, think his priorities may lie elsewhere. Also, not convinced about his longevity within the sport.
Let us know the outcome, be good to attend your mates first pro show! I'm in London so defo up for it! (If your mate can make good ticket sales, it will help out his career a lot! Sad but true).
Best of luck
Calzaghe-Lacy - Jeff Lacy was one of the hottest up-and-coming fighters in boxing at the time; he was knocking guys out left and right and seemed to have a promising future at SMW. In arguably Joe's best career performance, Lacy will beat pillar-to-post and taken to school for 12 rounds. Lacy was broken mentally/physically and was never able to get back to the top ranks again in his career.
This fight totally changed both of their careers. For Lacy it took his confidence which is bad news for a confidence fighter (Tyson) and for Calzaghe it finally made people believe he was the real deal. I dont think anyone outside of the UK cared about Calzaghe before the Lacy fight
There's still fighters that have runs of impressive opponents (Froch for example) but I agree even in those cases they only normally fight 2/3 times a year. But like the chap above said, the preperation for fights is totally different nowadays. Fighters will embark on a 12 week camp and have all kinds of nutritionists, conditioners etc to get them to the pinaccle of what their body can achieve. Mind you, if you fought every 6-8 weeks then you wouldnt need a 12 week training camp as you'd always be in good condition and cutting weight wouldnt have been such a big issue (partly because of the constant activity and partly because there werent so many weight divisions back then).
We moan about fighters but really its all about the TV dates. Think how many top fighters there are, there's no way they could all get TV coverage for 6+ fights a year unless pay expectations were drastically changed.
Is this a joke?
I heard Froch has like 1/1,000,000th the popularity of Hatton
Maybe if he destroys Bute's nuts like Hatton, then the atmosphere might get within 1/100,000th of Hatton-Tszyu
It didn't on Thursday!
You do realize that boxing is a sports compatition not the battle ground for manhood.
Too be honest the simple fact that Khan has stepped into a boxing ring makes him 100 times more man then you sir. So you of all people should not be questioning anyones manhood from your couch.
Best post in this thread. Questioning the "manhood" of Khan who spent 12 rounds in the ring with Maidana and went through the 10th without going down is pathetic. Especially as you're doing it from the cosy comfort of your keyboard
None of them have what I would call a win over an elite fighter (between world class and special). Although Vitali has a loss...an unlucky loss to a special fighter. Based on this I think he proved his credentials that he could hang with the best.
You are right though none of them have a really great win, some good ones. Haye's came at cruiserweight imo, (fragomini, mormeck, macarinelli). Wlad's got only solid and good wins.
Wlad needs to fight Haye, he says haye needs him, but to me Haye is just a flash in the pan type, win or lose he would be someone who didn't achieve longevity so his legacy isn't going to be superb either way but, Wlad has already achieved long-term dominance albeit against sub-par competition...so he needs that big win. Haye is the best guy out there, and better than anyone he has previously fought. Klitschko fans will have you believe different because, well...they are complete imbeciles.
Spot on.
Haye is the best out there, and if you actually look at his performances and ignore all the crap around him you can see he is pretty impressive. Haye and the K's are the best of recent times, despite haters on either side saying otherwise. Problem is to be best of recent times isn't much of an accolade.
At least if they fight each other the winner can claim some supremacy. Without the fight then both careers are lacking in highlights. I agree totally that Haye's defining fights were at CW, getting up off the deck in Paris to knock out Mormeck was fantastic.
It beggars belief that in an era of crap heavyweights the couple that are decent cant agree to fight each other. I love boxing passionately and it actually makes me sad for the sport because it always has been judged by the general public on the strength of the heavyweight division. And it is just embarrassing if the only decent top level HW's cant fight each other. No other mainstream sport has this issue and thats why a) fans are leaving the sport and b) we're not recruiting new fans.
When I was at school we all knew Bruno, Eubank, Benn etc. now schoolkids havent got a clue who Haye, Froch etc. are. Haye is the WBA HW Champ and British, yet most British people dont have a clue who he is. That is amazing and sad
The more worying aspect is that yet again sky are having to deal with crap over ppv boxing. The Haye fiasco, then Khan and now this. It would be great if Warren thought more long term and agreed to pull it from ppv and stood side by side with sky to give genuine value for fans. It would help him in the long term and help shed his "frog faced cunt" image.
Lets hope sky dont just get hacked off with the whole thing and start losing interest in boxing. The sport if dead in the UK if they do, regardless of Premier or Primetime.
Bet Hearn is chuckling away!
We wear poppies around this time to coincide with rememberance sunday, i.e. to remember those solidiers that died during the 2 world wars fighting for the freedom that we (including Mr Small above) now enjoy. By burning the poppies in the way he did, he is basically saying F** you to the families of those soldiers that were remembering dead relatives. If you have serious points to make about ongoing atrocities (and I'm sure he has some valid arguments) then make them in a mature, respectful way rather than upsetting and offending decent people trying to remember their dead relatives.
Champ? I prefer the word 'twat'. I'm glad Sam Webb took the British title off him and embarrassed him in the process. For those guys across the pond that havent heard of either of these guys then check out Sam Webb, decent boxer and always respectful of his opponents. The guy in the video is going nowhere, career over.
Sorry for the rant!
The British white working class people only like Hatton because he is English, unlike Khan. That is it. The only reason.
Hatton has not beaten half the fighters that Khan has. So what if hatton has won four different World titles at two completely different weight divisions? He never fought anyone for those belts.
and because Hatton does so much for charity means he is a Saint? Give me a damn break!
he is the worst British boxer ever.
This is hilarious. I've read some biased ill-informed crap on here before but this is so funny I can only assume you're joking.
Hatton - Malignaggi, Castillo, Urango, Collazo, Tszyu all former / current champions
Khan - a shot Barrera
You cant seriously compare their pedigree yet. I agree Khan looks great and to be honest I wouldnt fancy Hatton's chances if they fought - Khan would be too quick and Ricky would leave himself too open - but at present there is no comparison between their records.
You may not like Hatton's style / whatever but you cant deny he fought some quality opposition and Khan hasn't come close to pulling off a hard victory against a top p4p champion like the night Hatton won the IBF title from Kostya Tsyzu
Whoah lot of anger on the forum! Lets face it, whatever the result it was a crap fight. The fight in Berlin was much more entertaining, and I feel sorry for Taylor - he really goes out to fight but there's an inevitability about the whole thing! As for Crotch Squirrel.....
Rubbish fight. I'm a brit but I had Dirrel a few points ahead. But so many of the rounds were dire and difficult to score. I guess the judges saw froch hunt down Dirrel for the whole fight and rewarded his agression / willingness to embrace the fight. Dirrel was moaning and running away a lot, but ultimately surely the "hit and not be hit" adage must apply and on the basis of that Dirrel should have got the decision. Either way, crap fight so who cares really.
I agree that kessler will outclass froch but Abraham v froch will be a war - I'm looking forward to that one!
B.T.W. - I dont think it was a hometown decision, (none of the judges or ref were british). They must have been swayed by the crowd plus plenty of judges just hate fighters that run, moan and dont engage. Bad decision but no robbery.
