I thought Ward could out-class him, but he actually destroyed him. He was landing some very flush shots on Dawson. I wasn't surprised that he buzzed him though, because Ward even had Froch stunned a couple times.
Nobody is destroying anyone.
Dawson will edge a decision.
People on here are obsessed with unbeaten fighters, if you face top tier all the time, eventually someone will take your 0
Afterwards I hope Dawson re matches pascal as he needs to try correct that.
Punchers are worse style match ups for chad than ward will be
yeah good call genius your soooo sure of yourself

Clown lol
where are you now dickhead
you dont get it man..
floyd got excellent fundamentals, you seen that when he needed it. he learned all teh fundamentals as a youth, bcuz of his talent he can sometimes be unconventional and not only get away with it but benefit from it. but when mosley or judah hurt him what happened? back to textbook ****, its there when he needs it and the same thing applies to dawson.
ive seen dawson show very good fundamentals especially early in his career, thing is fighters een that before. what they havent seen is a fighter as tall and fast as dawson showing alot of movement. so sometimes he drops his hands to speed up his movement and invite leads then rely on his speed and coordination. but he can always revert back to boxing in conventional style. just bcuz a fighter doesnt use his left hook every fight doesnt mean he dont have one and the same thing applies to fundamentals, ward fought several fights were he ignored fundamentals too.
kessler does not have better fundamentals than dawson. kessler always keeps his hands up bcuz thats the only D hes got, no headmovement or footwork. dawson can rely on his other skills and drop his hands, he can also pick em up and do a better job blockign and parrying than kessler whenever he damn well pleases. same thing applies to straight punches, kessler throws straight punches bcuz his arsenal of punches is limited, he does have a better cross than dawson since chad is a converted fighter but every other punch chad throws better than kessler by a wide margin.
kessler makes a bunch of technical mistakes, constantly misplaces his weight, stands straight up, no headmovement, fights in straight lines etc. dawsons skill level is on a whole other level.
dawson fights very well backing up. tarver, adamek, harding, johnson etc all backed him up. johnson had success late in their first fight but hes a world class fighter. if chad couldnt fight backing up glen wouldve knocked him out but in the rematch he nearly shut him out. pascal didnt back chad up he moved in and out and lets keep in mind he wasnt successful with it. he just threw intense combinations that got the crownd excited and outworked chad before he got started.
i never seen dawson fold, he went to war with johnson for 12 rounds and pascal barely landed two shots in a row all night. your just making **** up now bro.
fighting tall and fighting backing up is not the same thing (i never said it was :dunno:). however one doesnt cancel out the other, when dawson gets backed up he starts fighting tall WHILE hes backing up.
when ward fights a smart fighter i will say hes got world class boxing IQ. hes looked smart in his fights so far but its one thing to look smart against fighters like froch, kessler and abraham. being able to outsmart a fighter who can actually think and adapt himself is entirely diffrent. dawson has done this, several times against experienced, well rounded and skillful fighters who had the ability to think and adapt themselves. in all of wards fights he made a quick adjustment and the other guy was clueless for 12 rounds. dawson been in chessmatches where the other guy had an answer and forced him to adjust again, going back and forth with other smart fighters and staying ahead. im not gonna call ward one of the smartest fighter in the game for outsmarting edison miranda and allan green.
If you've never seen Dawson backed to the ropes & damn near fold over under pressure there's nothing left to say bro.
if jean pascal can beat him, then i'm sure ward can beat him. he'll probably win easily too
if sakio bika can give him huge problems for 12 rounds and nearly win, then im sure dawson can beat him.
problem is you cant judge a fighter on just one fight, especially if its the worst performance of their career by far.
ward will win the fight
@175 chad would be the stronger of the two, @ 168 ward has nearly every adv handed to him on a plate. he will adopt ambush style pascal used as plan a then can always resort to clinch and hitting (chad will be weak from drain) for plan b, plan c he can just box mid range.
chad is more limited than ward and losing his size adv will limit him further
No, hold up, 1st of all technical means by the book. Dawson is not technical. His style is based on athleticism & reflects like I said. His style is based on physical gifts not technical fighting. Like a watered down Roy Jones, or Floyd. Kessler is more technical than Dawson. Hands up, chin tucked, straight punches, technical style.
Fighting backing up, is fighting while being pressured & having to fight backing up. Dawson cannot do that well. That's not the same as fighting tall. Dawson fights tall. Keeping fighters at range behind a long jab at his pace. When Pascal & Johnson put the pressure on & had Dawson backing up, he literal folded in half from the pressure. Why?? Cause he cannot fight backing up. Again, not the same as fighting tall.
Dawson has no where near the ring smarts of Ward. No where near. Again his advantages are all from a physical stand point. More reach, taller, more power & probably a little faster. Dawson isn't that smart, speed up the pace & stay in his chest, he folds, bends to his waste, panics on the ropes. Hopkins?? He's an old man now. Anyway. you'll see what a younger prime version in Ward will do to Dawson.
Like I said, Ward has much more ring smarts, IQ, intangibles & stamina. Dawson has the physical attributes & more fighter. IMO Ward is the better overall fighter. A fighter fighting tall & fighting backing up is not the same & that's about the stupidest thing I've heard on this site.

Hes going to bully him. Impose his will. Test his heart early. If Ward smells pucci he'll blow Chad clean out of the water. If Chad is willing to bang then Ward will out smart him.
Either way Chad loses.
first of all i dont know how dawson being more technical than anyone ward has ever faced before turned into whos more textbook between dawson and ward. everything you wrote aside you still have to admitt dawson is more technical than any of wards previous opponents.
dawson has very good fundamentals anyways, just bcuz he doesnt always use it doesnt mean it isnt there. look at floyd, hopkins or even ward himself, they all drop their hands. what matter is they know how to keep their hands up, block and parry incase they need it. chad can be textbook, thing is hes always trying new things and switching his style up.
to say dawson cant fight backing up is literally one of the dumbest things i ever read on this site, if i was to rank the fighters who are the best in any division fighting backwards dawson just might be #1, top 5 for sure. hes not a bad inside fighter either and doesnt do much more bending at the waist than ward does.
dawson has just as much ring smarts as ward if not more. its one thing to outsmart kessler, miranda or bika, but when has ward ever faced another intelligent fighter and outsmarted him? for all the bashing dawson gets for fighting old fighters its pitiful that ppl would overlook the fact that not a single one of them could outsmart him. even hopkins was never able to stay a step ahead of dawson, chad made subtle changes and shut down anything he had going for him. he beat tarver, one of the most skillful and intelligent fighters of this era in a straight up chess match and did it with ease, he made adamek look like it was his first time lacing em up.
so ward smarter than dawson? no.. just no.. dawsons mid range game is excellent too and his footwork and balance is far superior to wards.
ward may be more textbook, but dawson has more advanced skills in his arsenal, bag of tricks as you would call it. on top of that hes a superior athlete, more experienced, more intelligent and overall a better fighter. dont be suprised if dawsons no close or mid range fighting ability having ass knocks ward down or out with an uppercut as hes coming in.

Dawson is too good to be walked over. However, I think Ward is THAT good, so we will see how this goes. If he decisively white-washes Dawson, I'm sure many people will be impressed.
I agree to the fullest...I'm one of them that will be suprised/impressed
Dawson by SD....he'll deserve a UD but the politics won't make it official...Dawson to win, however you cut it!!
I have to disagree with you, Earl. I think Dawson does BEST against guys who come forward, and have limited boxing skills, or older fighters who can't match him in overall youth, athleticism and speed. Dawson struggles the most with young, strong, good boxers who are fast, like a Ward, and Pascal. Difference is, Pascal is limited in areas Ward isn't limited in. Yes, Pascal hits harder, but Ward is more consistent all the way across the board. In terms of work-rate, and overall focus, poise and physical consistency, Ward is several notches above Pascal.
Put it this way, I was VERY surprised to see Pascal have such an easy time against Dawson like he did in the early and mid rounds. I held Chad on a higher pedestal then, and yes, I thought Pascal might be able to nick a close decision on his home turf, but I didn't expect him to completely befuddle Dawson and outbox him like he did. Since then, even with his decent win over Hopkins, I'm very tentative in my assumptions when it comes to Chad.
I like Chad, always have, but he's lacking in certain areas, that Ward isn't lacking in, which is what I expect to get Ward the win. But, I do completely agree that this won't be EASY for anyone. I expect Ward to win convincingly, but it won't look super easy either though. I expect Ward to shock Dawson with his speed and wiry explosiveness that most of Ward's opponents underestimate.
I think Dawson was having some personal problems during da training camp for dat fight too. He looked and sounded like a chump in dos interviews but he looks pretty good right now.
I noticed in another tread that people were calling Dawson more technically sound than any 1 Ward's faced before. I personally don't find Dawson technical at all. He sometimes fights with his hands real low, he bends too far at the waist & does not know how to fight backwards or inside.
He's more of 1 of those slick fighters that uses superior athleticism & likes to move around the ring at his own pace, setting his own tempo & controlling the fight against lesser skilled fighters.
Ward is the technical fighter of the 2. Text book, with a little old school bag of tricks. Ward can fight at any pace, has better stamina, ring smarts, balance, footwork, inside game, mid range game & the will to win.
If Dawson can use his physical advantages & stay at long range while not tiring, then he will win. I just don't see that happening.
