Can Spence fight going backwards? If not, Bud beats him. He definitely won't be afraid to step to Spence to see what he has.
Why would Spence Jr. fight backwards? He's most likely the naturally bigger man, bigger puncher.
It almost makes no sense that he's that bad on the speed bag, seeing that boxing is a huge component of MMA. WTF.....it's like all he does is hit the mitts and heavy bag. It's criminal that he's never worked on the finer parts of boxing training. But then again, Brazilians have always been prehistoric and bums at boxing. Not a shocker here.
Please explain why the speed bag is a finer part of boxing.
body punching isnt that common in MMA?
are you aware that Conor takes knees and kicks to the body as well?
And are you aware when he grapples, he takes strikes to the body on the ground. including punches, elbows and knees/kicks to the body (even on the ground)
There are more ways to strike your opponents body in MMA than there are in boxing so GTFO.. and kicks hurt way more than punches, and Conor's been kicked plenty.
Look I've been watching MMA since 94. Yes, knees, kicks, etc. are thrown to body but at what volume? It's no the same as getting punched in the body PLENTY of times within three minutes then having to do that 12x.
I've seen all of McGregor's fights starting since the Ivan Buchinger fight and he's barely taken ANY damage other than against Mendes (who took it on two weeks notice) where he got taken down and blasted to the face a few times and the two Diaz fights. In neither of those fights did he take a ton of body shots or even if any.
Can he avoid punishment to the face and body against Mayweather? Probably not unless he miraculously takes him out early. Otherwise he'll gas just the way he started to gas against Diaz and yes he also started to gas in the rematch but bit down and gritted it out.
He looks much smaller than Mikey Garcia who just moved up to 140... Head, shoulder, frame etc.
This.
When they met Garcia looked naturally much bigger than Lomachenko. Lomachenko just doesn't have that build to get much bigger.
Hes putting on a show, trying to mask his fears with laughter and trash talk.
No, it's smiles because he knows he's about to get PAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAID.
Then someone should explain all of the loses that Nate Diaz has (he's tall af in the 155lbs. division) or explain how Georges St. Pierre who has beat tons of people taller than him. Or how about the heavyweight Stefan Struve who is 7'0" and has 8 loses to all people shorter than him?
I'm pretty sure like 80% of the people rooting for Manny have only seen Mayweather fight twice tops. Twice being generous.
Even more funny, I'm sure 80% of "Pacquiao Fans" have only seen his highlights as well. This was confirmed by someone I went to watch the fights with. It was all build up by the media and everyone bought it.
no he didnt you lying bum! his official purse was 3 million lmfao! mayweather was making that in the 90's...
McGregor made 3 mil for the Alvarez fight. Mayweather was NOT making that in the 90s as his first PPV was against Gatti in 2005 and he made 3.2 mil for that fight as the B-Side.
Giving an unbiased opinion, that would've been funny if the Floyd can't read stuff was new. That's old now. Anybody who follows boxing, rather that be on this site or through YouTube, has seen Floyd can't read jokes for the last couple years. Conor did well this press conference, but this was too expected.
But it's not the boxing hardcore they're selling this boxing match too, it's the millions of casuals, the millions of casual/WWE type mma fans, the millions of Irish. They're not on boxing forums all day or on twitter reading about boxing. This is all new to them.
It was a legit knockdown albeit a only a flash KD. He hit Paulie with the left while Paulie was in a bad position and Paulie wen't down as a result of the punch.
It didn't look like it hurt Paulie that much but it was as legit a KD can be.
I agree with this, it was technically a knockdown. He was in a bad position and was hit with a left (maybe an uppercut?)
But the "video" showed some sloppy bolo punches from McGregor (that straight left was nasty though) and Malinaggi also looked like crap.
I wouldn't say Malinaggi was "lit up" because the "video" isn't even ten seconds long.
If anyone really thinks Conor is a serious threat to Floyd after watching that, they really don't understand the sport of boxing. Conor is a one handed fighter. His left is dangerous, but do you really wholeheartedly believe that Floyd doesn't know how to defend it??? Even if you don't put Floyd in your top ten p4p greatest, he is still top 5 best defensive fighter ever. And unlike Paulie, he will be in tip top shape. This video means absolutely nothing.
Funny enough, you've got "mma journalists" who have barely watched a full boxing match think that those short clips "legitimize" McGregor's boxing skills.
Conor's only hope is to immediately jump on jr and not let up but rough him up makeing jr fight !
He cannot have any hope by staying outside. Jr hates it when someone jumps on him as it opens him up to short shots from everywhere . Jr acts like that is what he wants but he don't! Canelo blew it in the first two rounds by staying away. You could see fear in Jrs eyes in those rounds but after he just coasted to a lopsided win.
Conor knows how to fight in close and make a man tire so get on his scrawny ass and go to work !
Conor better be in shape to go all out for 12 or he gets beat and possibly KO'd vie Hatton.
McGregor knows how to fight close? Have even ever seen him fight? He's been about fighting from a distance and using his long ass arms to hit his opponents from a range they can't counter from. Other than the Diaz rematch, he's never fought in close at all. Even then, he was doing nothing but resting and trying to roll with punches when Diaz had him against the fence at the end of the 2nd round and 3rd round. The rounds he won he won from a distance and disengaging from the taller man.
Definitely wasn't a knockdown. If you watch you see Connor's hand on Paulie's head and then he pushes. The clip BEFORE it is worse though, if the ropes weren't there he might have stumbled right out of the ring lol.
Which clip was that?
It might, but I think It will be more of a get together type of event where you end up with 15 to 20 people watching the event In one location, which will obviously keep the numbers down. I could be way off but I was thinking 2.5-3 million.
I don't know man. There are more casuals talking about this than Mayweather Pacquiao. On top of that a LARGE % of MMA fans are more like WWE prowrestling types that just go wild for things like this. The hardcore MMA population is intrigued as well.
interesting to see may coming in so light, probably rehydrate to about 165 whereas mac is gonna look to get to 170-175
What? Mayweather is going to be nowhere near 160lbs. A few months ago before training camp he was 160lbs. WITH clothes on.
Honestly if Aldo came at Floyd the same way he came at Conor, even Floyd with 0 MMA experience wouldve put him to sleep.
Thing you forget is that Mayweather is defense first. Maybe he would have done his pull back. But he usually sets that up first with pawing jabs, feints, etc.
Only thing I want to add is that Conor is used to fighting 5 min rounds vs 3 mins. Granted it only amounts to 25 mins of fighting, 5 5 min rounds, but 3 min rounds should allow him to pace his self a lil better. Not to mention that in MMA they don't have idle time during rounds, they constantly have to go at it or the ref talks schit to the fighters. Anyhow Money May will dismantle Mystic Mac the entire time. Conor might gas from all the missed shots. I'll be interested to see it, on YouTube, or showtime a week later.
Not used to it considering most of his fights didn't even last 2 rounds and the one time he fought all five rounds he was a bloody mess and tired out of his mind.
floyd didnt drop any weight for the weigh in because if he was weigth dropping he would never go over by 5 pounds. that makes no sense. now he might use an iv to gain more mass after the weigh in but that is clearly illegal and what he did against pac. exemption time!!!
Dude you've been "watching" boxing since 2008 and you think IV bags are going to give you mass? They're used to REHYDRATE and or mask illegal substances used. He won't gain "mass." Fighters will just rehydrate close to their normal weight. No one gains mass from an IV bag.
And I was worried Mayweather would be made to look like a fool by the cleverness of McGregor.....IT WAS THE OPPOSITE!!! Pretty Boy is Back!
Been a Mayweather fan for ages but have a feeling things will be insane once they reach London...
When was the last time? Last I checked he last 2 fights were at 170...right?
For the boxing community and every combat sport noob. His last fight was at 155lbs. He fought Diaz at "170lbs" twice. Diaz has fought his WHOLE career at 155lbs. except three fights at 170lbs. where he went 1-2 and went back down to 155lbs.
Is Diaz "big" for MMA's 155lbs. division? Eh, there have been heavier. He's tall lanky dude that doesn't like to cut. But since he couldn't win at 170lbs. he decided to go back down (and mind you still lost a few).
McGregor and the UFC built him up to be this monster 170lbs'er but he's not.
