I'm not too familiar with Jacobs, but this is clearly the "best" matchup of the night (i.e. Walton isn't a statue).
Jacobs does have a good arsenal though. His jab is smooth, and he sets up well in the pocket.
I don't know if it's a bad fighting IQ, so much as Vasquez having an annoying style (in a good way). Prescott isn't a guy with a huge range of skills, and I think he's getting caught tonight.
Prescott doesn't seem to have a single answer. Vasquez's style is tricky, but the bigger fighter shouldn't be stifled like this, at least for THIS long. I honestly don't have Prescott winning more than 2 rounds so far.
Yes, but Mtagwa is no Maidana. And IMO, JuanMa is more "ready" than Ortiz is. Fight fans deserve better IMO, but if it does infact lead to a Gamboa matchup next, then I can stomach it.
Rigondeaux had the punch of the night with that liver shot. It looked pretty nasty. Lara continues to appear steady. I don't think he'll be an exciting fighter, because he seems to lack a finishing touch right now (that could change though with more pro fights), but he did definitely coast tonight (granted, against a fighter who professionally has survived other talented fighters).
Terrible poll options. I seriously doubt he'll be pound for pound. He'll be exciting in any division he chooses to jump to, and will probably be a world champion multiple times. But I doubt he is pound for pound at any time.
If you re-hydrate that way, it's possible to put on a ton of weight. I can recall I had a weigh in at 175 for GG, and I put on about 18 pounds in less than 15 hours just re-hydrating and eatting a good breakfast. What's bullshit about it, everyone knows its just part of the game.
Well it wasn't really "normal" for me. I was struggling to make weight because my past two matches were at 168 and I put on a little too much weight while training, so I had very little fluids in me when I went to the weigh-in. I also was probably taking in very little calories a day or so before the weigh-in. Normally, I'd probably just put on 3-5 pounds after hydrating.
Because many fighters struggle to make their ideal weight, and the weight they measure at isn't really their "true" weight. It's just the weight that they can be most competitive in. You'd rather be a big 147, fighting littler guys, then going up to 154 where the guys are considerably stronger and taller, right?
Agreed. His chin is too suspect for his very lax-defensive game. His hands are incredible though, and just that fact will make him dangerous for anyone.
I wouldn't classify him as a "puncher" honestly. IMO, his skills as a pure boxer are too high. I basically view him as a fighter who has very good technique and excellent power in both his hands.
Guys like Pavlik, Gamboa, Miranda, Valero, etc are what I call "punchers", because while their hands make them dangerous, some portion of their boxing skills leave them suspect. If someone like Lopez didn't have such power, I'd still say he could be successful based on his skills. "Punchers" mentioned above? I don't think so.
I think Mosley has the skills to still be an elite and contending fighter. But not an elite draw. Fighting Williams is the best thing for him right now IMO. If this is about legacy, because Williams is the best at 154 right now.
No. IMO, only fight fans who root for their respective countries (Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, English, Argentinean, etc) tend to be upset when one countrymen beats or destroys another, especially when they're prospects vying for contention. As as a fairly unbiased fight fan in terms of where one is from, I could care less.
He's got what appears to be a full arsenal. I'm watching this Walton fight, and he wouldn't be able to use the same fight plan against Pavlik; too much complacency inside and just standing and trading. It could be interesting.
Khan was stunned pretty hard by a good shot that should have NEVER been walked into. It wasn't like he was dominated by Prescott; he just should have never put his below average chin out like that. Hopefully he learned something, because if he didn't, Kotelnik will eat him alive, mark my words.
Prescott was an unfair hype job; I feel like most logical fight fans didn't think he is REALLY top 10 divisional rankings. At least I hope not. The guy needs new training and/or better ring generalship, because a tricky style apparently baffles him.
