You never look past your current opponent, Rees has nothing to lose because nearly nobody expects him to win so the pressure is on Broner to knock him out. If it goes to a decision then it will hurt Broner hard even if he wins every round.
I think this is the wrong move for them and too big of a jump in opposition, I would advise Wilder to choose somebody else right now. Thompson won't take a dive because he knows there is another possible payday for him to fight Klitschko a third time if he wins two more fights.

Thompson threw the fight the second time, if he fights Wilder and Jennings and beats them both and Pulev loses his next fight he can be the IBF mandatory and can get a third fight and a nice $500,000 payday or maybe more if he bargains well. Thompson is motivated so this isn't a good move for Wilder, they have been putting him with mediocre competition and this is too big of a step up. He won't be able to do that telegraphed cross he pulled on Price on Thompson I am sure of that. Thompson has been able to tag Wladimir plenty of times in both fights since he is a very smart and patient counter-puncher, Wladimir just punches too hard so Thompson gave up twice. The man is a smart veteran and is plenty motivated currently, not a good choice to put a prospect up against.
Put Wilder against Mitchell/Jennings on CBS for his next fight and if he wins then Banks should fight him. If he beats both of them convincingly then he should fight Thompson and if he beats him and does well then he earns a shot at Wladimir.
Flash knockouts are usually much safer than sustained beatings, it's much better to have your brain shut off and reboot than take continuous punches that rock your brain into the skull causing tears and a possible hemorrhage.
Food poisoning is terrifying and most of the time you feel like you are going to die and just stop breathing, I wish him the best recovery. It's bad enough that boxing fans have to suffer through the common practice of having four beltholders at once, but that the WBC makes it nearly impossible to become undisputed champion in a division is a disgrace. The only way someone could become undisputed champ now if for them to win the WBO, IBF, and WBA belt and then, and only then, win the WBC belt. They'll be undisputed for all of five minutes. Disgusting.
The IBO belt should replace the WBC belt for title unification if Sulaiman actually goes forward with this ruling for every fighter. Every fighters goal should be to become undisputed champion of their weight class and Sulaiman wants to prevent that happening, it's bad enough to have these promoters and cable entities acting like children. If the IBO isn't good enough then whoever runs these boxing organizations should drop the WBC requirement for undisputed status and just have the WBA, WBO and IBF titles remain. The other sanctioning bodies making multiple belts for one weight class doesn't help this situation, it looks like the IBF and Ring belts will be the ones that fighters will go for in the future. It's going to be interesting to see what will happen when Wladimir wants to unify all four belts and gets rejected.
Some people don't feel pain while high on THC, so if a fighter smokes or ingests weed before a fight they will be able to take bombs to the face like it's nothing. That's why it's a banned substance.
