Yeah, Wlad never landed a big punch on Fury. Fury moves well, he's slick. And Wlad just couldn't get off. Even the Wlad against Joshua couldn't get off. Wlad from 3,4,5 years earlier would have finished Joshua that round. Wlad from when he fought Byrd would have knocked Joshua out in the 1st. Wilder punches harder that Wlad ever did. If he hits Fury with the punch Wlad didn't, Fury is In trouble.
Povetkin doesn't have a chance in hell here. Even if he was on the juice. He's at a distinct height and reach advantage and even if he lands power shots, he will be lunging and jumping to land them. They will be at the end of his punch which means the end of his power and won't have any impact. Of course he's been paid to not land them anyway but even if he wasn't, he wouldn't be able to.
He wouldn't put him in against anyone who might be a threat without paying for the threat to go away. He's making it more obvious that he knows there's nothing to worry about here by trying too hard to make it seem like he worried. He would never risk losing 50-100 million. The money is already in Povetkins pocket
So now it's "The pair are rumoured to go toe-to-toe next year in Las Vegas" see how they have suddenly but subtlely pushed that back without really drawing attention to it. This fight that was supposedly finalized a month ago ain't happening. Just a PR stunt.
Hearn talking out of his ass to try and hype the fight. There is no way Hearn would take any fight that would be risky for Joshua at this point unless he has made financial arrangements that take the risk out of it. I wonder how many millions he is paying Povetkin to lose this fight.
I think it's a PR stunt too. Hope I'm wrong but they've been telling us for 2 weeks they are on the verge of a deal. My gut tells me 2 weeks from now they will still be saying they are on the verge of a deal. I hope they prove me wrong.
Yeah, my mind tells me that Wilder wins this fight with a big KO at some point. But then my gut tells me Wilder will have a hard time reaching and tracking Fury and he will leave himself wide open. Fury has fast hands, he's sneaky with his punches and he might pick Wilder off with every move Wilder makes. Add how long Fury's reach is and I can see him just as easily knocking Wilder out. Other than the power, Fury is leagues above Wilder in boxing skill and savvy.
Porter is so tough because of how he just bullrushes head first at you. Danny needs to be real light on his feet so he can backup and give himself just enough distance to land some shots that don't get smothered while avoiding chewing on Porters head.
I like Porter but I hate how Porter fights and I actually think it shouldn't be allowed. It takes boxing out of boxing. Having said that, he wins this fight unless Garcia can hurt him because Garcia does not move around or in and out as much or as fast as Thurman did against Porter.
Price needs to stop hoping he's fighting a clean Povetkin and start hoping he's fighting an imaginary Povetkin. It's a shame, Price is a good guy who initially looked like a new heavy with a big punch and a real chance to make noise that people could get behind and root for. But man is he screwed. No chin, no stamina, and no defense combined with lack of confidence and the inability to stay calm under pressure. He was cursed with the Cinco De Whammy of boxing right there. I would love to see him win this thing just for him but I expect it will be ugly and end quickly.
That would require fighters to have chins and be able to take punches like Holy field, Bowen and a lot of heavies from previous generations. From Ali to Frasier to Holyfield to Bowe. That during that 30 year span there were tons of heavyweights that could take crazy punches and there were a lot of wars between those fighters. Nowadays, probably for the last 10 years or so, all we ever talk about is how it depends on who hits who 1st.
None of these guys have the chins to make it through a war like guys from the past did. It's strange how that has changed. Is it really possible guys hut that much harder now? Do PED's play a part in it? Has the human body changed over that period and simply isn't able to withstand the same amount of punishment? I find it fascinating how different things are now. Watch some classic heavyweight fights from the 70's through the early 2000's, there hasn't been anything like those and no one that could take the punches and beatings like they could then.
This is good for Choc and good for boxing. I'm glad there are some cautious measures in place to protect these boxers. The 1 thing that stood out to me though was why did they wait until now to announce this and put the suspension in place? I found that a bit odd and wonder if it means maybe there is a problem with him. I don't recall reading announcements of other boxers being suspended pending further testing at any point let alone a half year after their loss. Either way, I wish he would retire.
He was an amazing boxer and he put on a hell of a show every time he got in the ring. But he can't stay at this weight and survive and neither he nor his camp seem open to going back down in weight at all. He also doesn't seem to be able to take a punch anymore. It happens in boxing, you can only be in so many wars before it starts to catch up to you regardless if you were the one winning. He's been hit a lot and seems like he can't absorb the punches anymore. At that point, it just becomes dangerous for the boxer.
Great boxer, great champion, one of the good guys in the sport and I loved watching him. But my hope is he hangs it up and enjoys his life with his family. Regardless, he's an easy guy to root for, in or out of the ring, and that's what I will continue to do.
There isn't 1 heavyweight active today that could be a part of a war like the Holyfield/Bowe fights. Those boxers and that generation waged war against eachother. They didn't worry about ducking eachother or having a loss on their record because they would just get back at it. The guys today avoid eachother and then when they do fight, they avoid getting hit because they are so afraid of getting knocked out. The current crop of heavyweights simply aren't capable of being in wars like that. They got hit with 60 punches per round, if these guys now get hit with 60 punches in a whole fight they usually lose. None of them can take a beating and keep throwing the way those guys did. That generation of heavyweights was really special.
The scoring problems are an easy fix. Have the judges sit in seperate locations so that they can't communicate with eachother. Then have the judges score each round after it ends and then immediately turn that score in to someone or enter it in some electronic device that doesn't allow it to be changed. There is no reason they should be "reviewing" their scorecards for 10 minutes after a fight ends. Might not prevent everything but sure would help some. Boxing doesn't want any of this fixed though because they are all in on it.
I don't think he wants to fight anymore. He got married, had a few tough fights prior to that and had the injury. I think he has lost the desire to fight, to put in the work to get in to top shape and I think he has lost some of the invincible confidence he used to have. He doesn't even talk like the same confident guy and shows no fire or passion when discussing getting back in the game.
Seems fishy to me. Just yesterday or the day before he was interviewed and talking about the fight. I seriously doubt he was doing anything other than staying loose in the day leading up to the fight. Who knows.
I absolutely can not stand Broner. Having said that, I honestly think that stylistically, this is a real bad match up for Pac. Broner fights tall, doesn't bend over, doesn't reach beyond his arms length and is always on the back foot. That's a tough matchup for Pac as he's not necessarily good at or used to reaching for someone. The Mayweather fight showed that. Broner isn't in the same class as Mayweather but the styles are similar. There is a chance we end up seeing Pac reaching and missing with 1 punch at a time instead of being able to open up and throw combos like he would with someone
who fights in his range .
Please let him move to 135 and get beaten so we can put an end to him holding a belt hostage. If a fighter doesn't fight every 6 months they should lose their belts.
I think if a boxer doesn't fight a minimum 2 times a year he should forfeit his belts, less than once a year and they should lose their license. There is no reason these guys can't fight every 4-6 months unless they suffer an injury. It's funny how they fight 4-6 times a year until they start making money then all of a sudden they need half a year off.
Regardless of whether I agree with what they say, I prefer it when athletes stick to sports, actors stick to acting and musicians stick to making music.
Dan Rafael is the biggest name in boxing journalism. I know he has detractors, but he doesn't get anything out of being proven wrong. He doesn't think the fight is happening based on a number of factors. Canelo 6 month suspension.
BJS will be ready May 5th if the price is right, I am not convinced he was ever really injured.
I agree. I think it was a strategic decision to say he was hurt and postpone the fight in the hopes Canelo would get suspended and he could get his chance at GGG. If not, no big deal, he fights his original opponent a little later than planned.
Cause this is so shocking. And of course they won't release what the substances were because they don't want to draw public attention to the problems that arise when you allow a man who is becoming a woman to compete with women or a woman who is becoming a man to compete with women. At the least, it's an unfair advantage, worse case it becomes dangerous for someone. It was clear as day how masculine Jimenez looked from head to toe when she/he entered the ring. In our new socially and politically correct world, the facts are off limits.
Wilder needs to get rid of these guys right away. He should have made a move 4 years ago and gotten some people who would help him progress as a boxer. His trainer and corner as a whole are terrible and they have done nothing to help him in years. The fact that this guy wanted Wilder to keep getting hit is just 1 more in a long list of reasons to move on.
You got to look at the real reason why you dont like GGG.
Why so much hate?
I think he is a fake and he's a cry baby. That's why I don't like him and that's why I'm sick of him. Don't need any other reason. He might have been one of the most dominant fighters I've ever seen. Doesn't mean I have to like him.
In all honesty, in my 30 years of watching boxing I think Martin may be the worst "champion" I have ever seen. He actually seems worse than he was 3 or 4 years ago. And I still think I may be under stating how terrible he is. He punches pretty hard when he wants to sit down on a punch and actually make an effort to throw it with purpose but... Well, that's the best I can say about him.
No wait, actually he makes for a good opponent for other up and coming fighters. Joyce, Ajagba, Dubois, guys like that. So I guess he is a decent b-side to whoever he is fighting, a stepping stone. So there, that's something better I can say about him. I'm always interested in watching him but it's because it seems like he should be better than he is, he just never is.
Just like his last opponent, this guy isn't in there to actually fight and try to hurt Fury, there's too much at stake for Fury anf boxing. He is there to joke around, share some hugs and kisses and collect a paycheck plus a bonus from Fury's team for taking part in this PR stunt. He gets a career high pay day and more publicity than he's ever had in his career in exchange for agreeing not to actually try to beat Fury.
Funny thing is I actually thought he won the 5th round and then... well you know.. Chavez Jr happened. Such a wasted talent. He could have been 1 of the best for a few years from maybe 2013-2017 or so. I always pull for him to have turned it around so we could finally see how good he could have been. Then I hate myself for pulling for him ecause he screws it up every time.
As a Wilder fan I have been saying his lack of development and reliance on 1 big shot would catch up to him. It did. Think about it, Fury, Ortiz, then Fury again. In his last 3 fights he won a total of 4 or 5 rounds. No need for a rematch and I just don't know who Wilder can beat now that actually matters. He doesn't beat Fury or Joshua.
In addition, he came in too heavy and looked slow from the start. Something happened in him towards the end of the 2nd that buzzed him before the 1st knockdown. He has some very subtle signs when he is buzzed.
Smart move on Wilders part. If he is part of a big fight against Fury and wins which he should, he puts himself in a position to demand a hell of a lot more than 15 million Hearn has offered.
If Price wants to keep boxing or...breathing, he can't take this fight. It's not just the power of Dubois, it's his quickness and ability to get inside the jab and explode up with his punches that makes this a terrible matchup for Price and most likely a career ending fight. It is a shame, was hoping for Price that he could get a big payday fight for himself before he had to quit. I doubt this is going to be that fight.
Effing boxing. There's always someone trying to put **** off. The guys want to fight if they want to fight in April let them fight in April. Hell if they want to fight in January let them do it. But no, stupid showtime guy needs to start talking about may, June or later. STFU and get out of the way. We finally have a couple of boxers or want to fight more than once a effing year so let them.
