Lennox was a beast, no doubt, but skipping the Vitali rematch? That’s like leaving a boss fight half-finished. Vitali was ahead on points, and we all wanted round two. GOATs don’t leave unfinished business
Not really, as the local audience sucks and the country is boring to visit for foreigners. But they still can pay to move all the good fights to this weird destination for years.
The "real" Deontay Wilder that everyone thought they knew was actually a clone of the original Wilder, a basketball player for the UC Irvine Anteaters. The first clone was reprogrammed for boxing, but maybe they forgot to switch off the basketball mode, which is why his footwork was always so unique. The second version was so bad that they should declare themselves bankrupt and stop humiliating the sport of boxing
It's not easy - both fighters had great victories. Wilder's got those impressive wins over the bums. Meanwhile, Ruiz not only took down Joshua, let's not forget his impressive showing against the buffet line between Joshua fights.
So, while Wilder might have a slight edge in the boxing ring, Ruiz is definitely the champ when it comes to dominating the taco truck. Both fighters deserve the Hall of Fame
Usyk totally outclassed Dubois. Fury had been called a bum after Wallin, but shown great performance after. Both guys are still the best in the division and this must be an excellent fight
Look, I'm no Canelo hater, I really respect his skill level, determination, ambition - he's a true champion, but I can't ignore the fact that he's picking on elite fighters when they start showing signs of decline or he believes they are there for the taking. Beterbiev is 36. With an exception of BJ Saunders, Canelo has never fought any elite level fighter when that fighter was at the peak of his career. Not a single one. And that is if we want to call BJ elite - I can see an argument, but I don't see BJ getting into HOF. So, I'm sure if Canelo and Beterbiev fight, Canelo will win most likely on points (for one, Canelo doesn't lose on points, so that's that). So, yeah, Canelo will probably be considered ATG at the end of his career, but if you start digging into nuances as a purist, then you'd have to take points away for picking on those who are on decline.
If so, could you recommend a true elite fighter in the peak form that will be a worthy choice for Canelo from the purist point of view?
I don't think it's meaningless as at the moment, we cannot predict for sure who wins. I would say it is more meaningful now than it would’ve been a year ago when Fury was an unbeatable lineal champ, and Joshua was considered a loser. Now, after Usyk beat them both, these two guys have something to prove each other again, fighting for pride, not titles. I believe this one has a huge drama potential. At Ali vs. Frazier III there also were two fighters past their peak and without titles, but it was one of the most brutal and iconic battles in boxing history
I believe Fury should wait for Usyk. Joshua for sure will be an underdog here but he has decent chances of winning - even Wilder looked quite dangerous in the last fight. Tyson does not have much to win in this fight, but he does have much to lose.
Morrel is right to say Benavidez only attacks, but that’s the exact problem he’s going to be dealing with all night. And no guarantee he can survive that
