I remember a ESPN card during the fall I think. It had Johnson, Rigondeaux, and Lara and during the commentary they were talkinga bout Johnson being the last talented of his Cuban compatriots, but now they're buidling him up to be extremely talented. It's all funny stuff.
Close fight could go either way, but I have Elegele. wtf are u guys and teddy atlas thinking giving martinez such a wide win. just because Elegele doesn't look like a monster doesnt mean he lost rounds.
His hands are so fast! And combine that speed with the reach and power he puts on his jab. Possibly devastating. He seems to have the frame to support a great deal of weight too. Could fight effectively in quite a few weight classes when he gets older.
But if his arm was on the ropes keeping him up after being stunned, isn't that supposed to be ruled a knockdown?
Wasn't the ref supposed to direct Montiel to the neutral corner and start counting for Hasegawa?
froch landed cleaner better punches, once on youtube ill upload the full fight on here and you can show me where froch got hurt worse...deal??
so did Dirrell...
The ref was about to step in during the first flurry that was about the same location in the ring as the actual stoppage. But Quintana moved slightly to the other side of the ropes.
It's good that the ref stepped in after that first straight on Quintana's face though, even one more punch after that could have done serious damage to Quintana.
1. Fighter of the Year - Any fighter that's won at least one fight in 2010
2. Fight of the Year - Most excited ive been for a fight was yesterday Floyd-Mosley
3. KO of the Year - Bute - Miranda
4. Upset of the Year - Dirrell - Abraham or Montiel - Hasegawa
5. Round of the Year - Froch - Kessler - Round 12
I don't remember where I read this but I read that Emanuel Stewards thinks that Robert Helenius is a serious threat in the Heavyweight division to Wlad.
All I ever hear is Roger saying "box that mutha****a" "keep doin what you doin" "you beatin this mutha****a" while Floyd stares at Ellerbe to his right.
give berto a fight with margo and he gets stopped.....berto aint all that....
I know that. But if Shane fought him and beat him, would people give Pretty Boy Floyd more credit for his win over Mosley.
Because right now his incredible and resillient performance is being overshadowed by posters calling on Shane's age, inactivity etc...
This was not a fight that "could have gone" either way. It just wasn't that type of fight. Pavlik had success in the midrounds, but Martinez adjusted to Pavlik's adjustments. Simple as that.
Martinez didn't adjust to anything, Pavlik couldn't see after he was so badly cut. Martinez being a smart fighter got aggressive when he realized Kelly couldn't see, but I don't call that adjustment.
I'm not saying that I don't accept a Pavlik loss, or that the fight could have gone either way. I'm just saying that until the cut that didn't allow Pavlik to see, he may have been ahead, or at least certainly closed the gap almost completely from the middle rounds.
unfortunately for your opinion, it is general opinion that he did beat him convincingly.
After the cut was opened yes he did. And I know it was caused by a punch therefore completely legitimate.
Unfortunately for you, the fact of the matter is, the fight was either at a draw or how Howard Lederman had it 1 point ahead for Pavlik until the cut was opened. Before the cut was opened, the only convincing thing was that Pavlik adapted to blocking the left hook and establishing a strong job, and adapted to the point where he knocked Martinez down. :boxing:
ah **** it I was just rewatching rounds 6-9, I'm going nowhere with this...
Was on spring break when the fight happened so I couldn't get into my usual weekend fight focus.
Edit:
I actually had this 115-112 for Martinez. The judges, who did gave Martinez a fair shake this time, agree with me. I think i can score a fight quite competently.
He needs to rematch Pavlik so that he can convincingly beat him. I had Pavlik up by two points until the massive cut was opened. Pavlik had started to figure Sergio out and connect very well with his jab.
He may possibly go undefeated, but I don't think he'd win most with margins like a 118-110 or 120-108, like Mayweather did. I mean other than JLC there has never been a fighter that has given Mayweather that much of a hard time.
If he gets through Pavlik and Williams unbeaten, that would be quite an accomplishment, and it be a great thing to see Floyd vs Martinez. Floyd's a great fighter, my favorite active fighter, but he's more of a businessman than a boxer now.
Yeah it would, especially considering the size of both men, being bigger then normal for their weight divisions. It could propel Martinez to a very high ranking on future P4P charts.
But If Williams can fix up his defense to avoid the counter left hook that Martinez was landing at will in their fight, he could probably stop him.
