There many factors
To many belts
Greedy promoters tryna keep fighters unbeaten
Fighters constant trying mimic Floyd and keep their 0
To many network disputes
What do you think is the main factor? Look at MMA for example UFC,Bellator, One FC the best constantly fight each other and there is only one belt in each division.
The UFC has become the most popular franchise in combat sports in only just almost 3 decades.
While boxing as a whole slowly started to decrease its some what getting a rise again with certain boxers but barely enough as a whole to compete with the UFC why?
A lot of it is boxing has terrible fans look at Loma for example. Loses a close fight trying to chase legacy fans tear him apart . Danny fans tear him apart , anyone who loses gets torn apart , kicked to the wayside called exposed a bum/Gatekeeper etc. All the greats back in the day lost yet we view them in high regard now . Current fighters don't get that treatment.
It would make no sense Career / Health wise For anyone invested in a fighter to have a fighter reach top level and just have them run the gauntlet fighting nothing but killers every fight out until they became shot
Spence vs Crawford
Pac vs Mayweather 5yrs to late
Mikey Garcia vs Loma
Joshua vs wilder
To much ego and politics the best fights rarely happen these days
I don't understand the argument. Most divisions the best are fighting the best. I'm sick of this myth about boxing. This year off the top of my head we will get Fury v AJ, Berchelt v Valdez, Taylor v Ramirez.
The only divisions where the best aren't regularly fighting the best are Light Heavy, Middleweight and Welterweight.
And it's mostly PBC business holding up those divisions really whilst everyone at Middleweight is holding on to avoid losing the Canelo payday.
People may say Lightweight but other than Loma all these guys have only just broken out and we should see some fights over the next few years.
They seen Floyd do it and make it work.
So now they all want to follow the same blueprint.
Duck all the top competitor in their prime for if they lose, their stock won’t last as long.
Floyd ducked prime Manny.
Because people around the fighters, who have no skills themselves, have to milk these guys as long as possible. A defeat hurts earning potential.
This is a big part of it
If truly look at it Costa was the best lea in that division for the champion to fight. Adesanya Legit fought Romero, Gastelum and Whittaker back to back. The champs in UFC legit usually clean house and fight the 1 rank guy or top 5 ranked in the division each time they fight.
While boxing champs usually fight a top 5 rank fighter in their division every 2 years.
Davis been fighting on world champ level for 3 years now and only fought 2 top 5 ranked fighters in both division he fights in.
UFC has one boss Boxing is totally different, thats why UFC fighters never make anywhere near what the top boxers make.
Seems more like a lot of people buy the marketing from the UFC that every guy who headlines a PPV and they give a ranking to becomes the "best" - they are the best for that PPV..how many guys have they gone through who were teh best for that PPV and had no staying power even though they were supposed to be the best?
For example, Tank Davis fought LSC - hardcore boxing fans **** on the fight as say it's not the best vs the best even though LSC has been a top fighter for a long time ( i get the weight difference, I'm takling quality of fighter). Meanwhile, the same people who **** on LSC in that fight will come into a thread like this and tell people that guy Costa who fought Adesanya was the "best" - way better in his sport than Leo in boxing, right? We saw all his championship meddle in that fight - the guy was trash and looked like he never took a punch in his life.
That fight was just another example of the UFC putting on the best while boxing puts on trash matchups like Teo-Loma or Fury-Wilde, yeah? I get that boxing has a lot of improvements that can be made but **** the sucking up of the UFC marketing is getting annoying

Cos you can make the same money with 3-4 easy fights as you can with 1 tough one. Boxers don't want to risk their health.
When the best fight the best you get wars. Benn/McClellan, Ali/Frazier. Those sort of fights shorten careers because you almost have to die to win them.
When good fights get made, fans declare the loser's career to be over. Call them outclassed and not elite. Then they criticise the winner saying the opponent was never really good enough.
If your consumer's response to big fights is like that, why bother taking risks?
The top guys can earn millions fighting carefully selected opponents instead of opponents who can negatively impact their earning potential.
Basically, we get the fights we deserve.
Money. Both promoters and fighters. The idea of boxers being scared is generally false. It's a business with the primary goal of making cash with the alphabet organisations being the mediating factor.
Was there ever a period of time in boxing when the best were constantly fighting the best? I don't remember such a time.
Foreman and Frazier fought each other. Ali fought Ken Norton 3 times. Fought Frazier 3 times. Fought peak George Foreman. Fought Leon Spinks twice.
If that was today, Liston would have never faced Ali. And if he did, Ali sure as hell woulda ducked a rematch with Liston.

Most top level boxers are scared of being beaten up tbh
Boxers dont chose their opponents most of the time its down to money and management, managers want to keep them winning and making money thats the bottom line a loss is big set back for fighters so their teams will spread it out, every fighter in history had most average guys on their resume with maybe 6 or so really top guy if they were great.
Boxing is a business first and foremost .
