Almost 12 years ago, Brewster vs Liahovich aired on Showtime.
Boy, what an unexpected surprise. The logical train of thought was that Brewster would continue to tear through his opponents.
And that my friend, was totally off.
Enter Liahovich: unheralded, untested, veteran trainer, and without a marquee fight.
Liahovich started throwing these sneaky left hooks to the body that hurt just watching. Brewster keep trying to knock Sergei's head (those hurt as well).
The commentators, fans, and cornermen were so in awe of the brutal back and forth for 12 rounds that we all missed 2 things:
1) The damage to Brewster's right eye.
2) The damage to Sergei's brain.
Brewster fought only 1 more time I believe vs Wlad.
IMO, best 12 round heavyweight fight of the past decade.
YouTube it and see a rarity in what became an instant classic.
Sergio Martinez vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Fighters who will soon be added on the list:
Canelo vs GGG 2.
They grilled each other badly.
Both guys wont entertain the idea of having a third fight.
Matthysse V Gift Garcia.
i was gonna say matthysse-provodnikov. that was lucas last good fight. after that it was all down hill and provo lost to fucking molina
Bowe vs golota...absolue savage fight and litterally took the soul out of bowe and brain damage was evident right after the fight ...and went through hell again in the rematch
Margarito had an awful career before and after Cotto. Cotto had a solid career after Margarito
Danny didnt get ruined as he was always just slightly above average and got many, many beneficial scores.
Great call especially Bradley, Provo
how did marg have an awful career before cotto? he beat 6 top 10 guys and undefeated sergio martinez. you got guys on here hyping tank davis with one top 10 win lol. you might love floyd and hate marg because floyd ducked him but thats at least a respectable run. the guy was number 1 at welterweight for 4 years and in the top 5 for like 8.
Also Marquez/Pac were never quite the same after the 4th of their quadrilogy. Especially pac
That fight was the final nail on Pac's prime
He was never the same mentally after KTFO6, he became cautious and lost all ferocity after that
but his physical prime ended in the Margarito fight, Pac's reflexes, speed, stamina etc never looked the same after that.
Vasquez/Marquez
Margs/Cotto
Castillo/Corrales
Arguably Morales/Barrera were never quite the same since their trilogy even tho their final fight was kinda meh
