Unified middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin remains without an opponent for May 5 and it won't be Gary "Spike" O'Sullivan, who has for weeks been the leading candidate. Golden Boy Promotions president Eric Gomez told ESPN on Wednesday that O'Sullivan has declined an offer made to fill in as GGG's opponent with Canelo Alvarez having dropped out because of his two positive drug tests. It remains to be seen if Golovkin will go forward with a fight on May 5 but if he does the fight will move from HBO PPV to regular HBO and it would also move from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to the StubHub Center in Carson, California
dan rafael just posted it on twitter
And the ducking continues.
Charlo - not ready #induetime
Saunders - making excuses
Jacobs - gone missing
Spike - making excuses
Canelo - the one to blame
GGG - will fight anyone
GGG haters - still lying and trying to blame it on GGG
Maybe GGG should get someone like Alexander Brandt, an unknown, shot 40 year old columbian from a weightclass below.
or he can fight his mando who is more than willing...

You knew a month and a half ago about the canelo failed tests. Plenty of time to get a backup plan opponent ironed out. Especially after guys came out the wood works all saying they could step him. GGG turned them all down and started looking in the dumpster bins for guys like Spike and Munguai. And now you are 3 weeks away with NO opponent, NO venue and a huge problem with the IBF saying you owe a mandatory and your mandatory is willing to fight you on short notice so you have to fight him. Munguia was turned down by Vegas because he fought at welterweight just a year ago and hasn't fought any top ranked at any weight class. Just cancel the date you not even mexican who cares if you fight on Cinco De Mayo? Just move the date and fight Saunders or someone better with more time to promote it.
Just reschedule the date and fight Saunders pls
I don't think Saunders even deserves a fight with GGG. Beating people GGG has already schooled doesn't make you worthy of fighting GGG.
Fu*k the WBO belt, it's a piece of sh1t as long as the gyppo thief is holding it hostage, nobody will ever give a crap about it.

Just what I figured..
They offered the green inexperienced Munguia $750K. Guys like Andrade, Spike and Derevyanchenko would obviously want more than a 21 year old unknown JMW.
Falcao is a Olympian and skilled but he's still a prospect and lower ranked then Spike. The spike fight would of already been made but the IBF won't approve it. Lou threw a monkey wrench in the plan putting pressure to force GGG to face his mandatory (or get stripped) Derevyanchenko who is ranked higher then either Spike or Falcao anyway. But it looks like GGG wants no part of that or any tough fight that could risk him losing and out the running for Canelo rematch in Sept.
So I'm guessing Spike wasn't pleased with the $$.
If that's the case one can assume Andrade would also decline whatever offer they throw his way.
It's one thing to say you're ready. It's another thing to accept the purse offered.
They picked the green Munguia because they figure this kid is not gonna complain about $750K. Most likely guys like Spike and Andrade would want more than an inexperienced JMW.
They had since March 5th to start negotiating for a plan b. Now the clock is running out.
It's obvious they switched venues to get Munguai approved. That's their preferred target.
Golden Boy does offer another candidate, Yamaguchi Falcao...he’s in consideration.— Lance Pugmire (@latimespugmire) April 11, 2018
Yamaguchi Falcao has 15 wins, 0 losses and 7 knockouts.
His last two opponents combined record is 47 wins, 40 losses and 2 draws
word I'm getting from @makeawar is Spike O Sullivan is now outta the running to face Golovkin on May5th, will no co-headline card on May 4th with Ryan Garcia at the StubHub Center #boxing— Swift Kim (@steveucnlive) April 11, 2018
Spike moving on. IBF likely strips him if he fights Spike. Sounds like it's inevitable that GGG is going to scrap the date.
