It should be based on influence of the sport and change
Jack Johnson
Ali
Wlad(as he ushered in the eastern Euro/Russian) flood
Mayweather(for him changing drug testing in boxing
I don't understand all the Ray Leonards, he didn't influence anything over the sport or make any chances to the sport, he didn't do anything but be one of the champions that came along and there are a lot of them over its history.
I'll only put fighters that actually fought in my lifetime, despite having seen a bunch of the older fights after the fact:
Floyd Mayweather Jr
Manny Pacquiao
Bernard Hopkins
Lennox Lewis
Based on nothing but my personal favorites : -
Juan Manuel Marquez
Felix Trinidad
Eder Jofre
Salvador Sanchez
For what impact/importance etc; etc; etc;
Sugar Ray Robinson
Muhammad Ali
Joe Louis
Roberto Duran
Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson, Joe Louis, Julio Caesar Chavez.
I would like to fit in John L. Sullivan/Jack Johnson/Jack Dempsey and guys from the same cut. Some of those guys back then mainly for their historical impact and how they peaked and transcended the sport at the height of its popularity (arguably) despite fighting in harder times. Also how they helped change the sport into what it became in some cases...But in terms of influential legacy and impact on their generation I can't really see them among my chosen four.
Some good choices from other guys here too, although there does seem to be a common theme in a lot of choices...Seems if there ever was something done like this for boxing, Ali and at least one of the Sugars would definitely be on there for sure.
-Based of boxing history,transcendent,greatness,popularity,resume,etc.
My 4
-Muhammad Ali
-Joe Louis
-Sugar Ray Leonard
-Roberto Duran
ali, srr, srl duran...
