Porter is coming off a great W over Broner and Thurman is carrying the 0. Tim Bradle's last three fights have been against fckin bum bum rios, jesse vergas and diego chaves....can someone care to explain how that schedule equals to being an elite 147er? The winner of Pac / Bradley is clearly in the drivers seat but they have no long term upside. Manny wins he might retire Bradley wins who's left on the TR HBO side besides Crawford which they stated they won't fight each other is left that is any good. Brooks on his own island right now ,got the belt now fighting cans overseas so until Spence is the mandatory we might not find out how good he actually is or face a legit threat . The winner of Porter / Thurman have a win over a top 5 WW and will have options in Garcia, Khan, Spence ( in the future ) ,even stay busy fights could be Peterson,Guerrero, Aaron Marinez / Vasquez winner , Berto , Algieri Although The winner of Porter/Thurman won't be the #1 WW now,they'll probably be in the future.

For me it does. Brook stays in the UK feasting on bums and Khan won't fight anyone who doesn't punch like a girl. Garcia has to fight every guy that looks shopworn before he takes on anyone at 147 so what else is there?

If Thurman wins, he'll be either #1 or #2, depending on what happens in the Pac vs Bradley fight, if Porter wins, Brook still has to be ranked above him, as well as the Pac vs Bradley winner. Is this a 'triangular' judgement? :)

I like both guys, but come on - Thurman's best win is Collazo, Porter's - Alexander.

PAC-Bradley would obviously be #1, followed by Porter-Thurman, then Brook-Khan. Pac for beating a guy he's already 2-0 against? This guy was dominated by Floyd, has recently only beaten 140 pounders and was brutally KO'd a few years ago. There's really no clear top guy here and just one match won't crown a king. We'd have to get a series of fights or a tournament to get a clear top guy, which we're never going to get.

That is ridiculous.Brook, Khan, Bradley and Garcia are not retiring like Mayweather and Pacquiao. They are fighting for Thurman's belt but they won't be recognized as the undisputed welterweight king off of one fight. When and if a new welterweight dominates 147 the way Mayweather did most fans will agree he is the new king. It would take a very good welterweight and several key wins over top contenders. Porter and Thurman are very good but they have a long way to go to be the recognized king.

I haven't heard anybody make that claim but it is a good start going into that next generation of Welterweights to see the young guys step up and fight each other it's been mentioned a few times in a couple of porter vs thurman threads. that's the only reason i made this thread.

No but it's a good start for the winner towards proving where they stand in the division. If the winner of this fight then beats the winners of Brook/Khan (if that even happens) and Pac/Bradley that'd be a different story. EDIT: I'd put Pac/Bradley winner at #1 for the moment but there is still a lot of good fights these young guys could make to change that around. As far as P4P it's a tough call where they'd go. I'd much rather Tyson Fury be on the P4P list than the Thurman/Porter winner.
