Maidana not a big puncher?

He's got good power but like others have said, he doesn't have the brain or skill to use it properly.

Maidana can bang, no doubt about it. His KO % tells you that.

Soto Karass, Josesito Lopez has s.hit chin then cos they got stopped. Broner too cos he got dropped twice.. Maidana might not be the most powerful puncher p4p but does certainly hits hard..

He's not a one punch type of puncher but he definitely can bang.

punches too wide to ko people, not as strong as prime abrahammer to pull that off if he could land shorter punches he'd get some stoppages, or flush shots with his body behind, it's either wide as hell or an arm punch

The more discipline he has, the better his power will be. He throws so wildly that he doesn't land flush all the time but when he does he will put you on queer street or KD/KO you. With Garcia he's been throwing better punches, I guess Garcia told him to stop throwing so wildly, and helped him stop that in the gym. He could have KO'ed Khan if he just threw straighter punches.

Dude is definitely heavy handed. You must understand at highest level in boxing, you can't just knock boxers out all the time. Agreed...as the level of opposition increases knockout rates generally decrease...

this right here. maidana doesn't have the speed or the timing to one hit ko guys but his power breaks you down over time. zab isn't known to be a heavy handed puncher but he put danny on queer street a couple of times with fast, well-timed punches. it gets difficult to score one shot knockouts at the top level with just power. Well said, Ward was stating this about Thurman I think that at World Championship level you have guys who can absorb punishment better and still produce their own. Unless of course the puncher sets it up where the opponent doesn't see it coming and the ones you don't see coming hurt the most.

After the "chinny" Khan beat Maidana, all of a sudden it became alright to face him. Khan busted the hype.

His straight punches have power but just not enough speed behind them. The thing is, faster more well rounded guys he has boxed can see those straight shots coming and most of the time can avoid them landing flush. His secret weapon and power punch is that over hand right. He has serious power with it and speed. It's just an awkward angle that he throws his right hook which gives him decent speed. His overhand right while the most powerful punch he has is by far the most accurate one he throws. If you are in range and not responding to his feints then he will wreck you with it repeatedly until you are on the canvas. He is a great finisher if he doesn't gas out late in the fight. He probably doesn't hit quite as hard as Matthysse but he still is a great puncher with both hands. Maidana is famous for his punching power. Part of his deadliness comes from his fast combinations. Hard punch after hard punch coming from both hands and all angles.

Maidana's power is not overrated at all. He hits extremely hard. At the elite level, however, you're not going to put everybody you touch to sleep. He also lacks the timing, speed, and skills to set up his shots effectively.

corley actually beat maidana. maidana's power is definitely overrated.

Maidana has a hard time landing flush and scored most of his KOs against lesser opp, at a lower weight.
