he was exposed. because frankly, hes not very good. ppl made him out to be something hes not. hes not an elite fighter. kill that noise already.
Not good but still manages to bust up "elite" fighters.
Fighters are who they are and there's ONE Sugar Ray Robinson who was a "complete fighter"!
Lil Rock is a pressure kid who gave away a lot of "steps" to a much taller opponent who after getting hurt decided to go the distance on a bike and never threw punches that could stop Rock in his tracks. Yes Rock should have pressed harder in the late rounds but that's something that isn't as easy as it looks. I credit the bravery of Chris but again this is supposed to be "pro boxing" when 4 pitter patters don't mean squat compared to getting hit....moved....hurt! Sorry but what Chris displayed was RUNNING not BOXING.
Just because your on the move doesn't make it an art form he never engaged he never scored effectively.
If this judgment is applauded pro boxing will become amateur boxing, its as simple as that. Even the refs have changed dramatically over the past 10 years. NO in fighting, no encouragement to "punch out" it's all STOP and step back? What's step back just stop and hold your momentum why should the aggressor be penalized?
Because the people in pro boxing are from the amateurs the last of the "old school" officials, trainers and cornermen are gone.
If this is accepted and this style is duplicated the live shows will slowly diminish because the excitement is being removed.
Boxing is chess with consequences! When consequences are removed its Tag!
Ray.
Yeah, so exposed.. http://larrybrownsports.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/Chris-Algieri-eye-providnikov.jpg
I'd rather be "exposed" if it means my opponents looks like this and not me.
Stop Discrediting the Brawlers and give more props to the BOXERS, they usually win that match up this is nothing new, even going back in history the Boxers would always make the Brawlers look ordinary
Most of the time Brawlers are only given a Punchers Chance against Skilled Boxers and For GOOD REASONS! You NEW BOXING FANS want the BRAWLERS to dominating boxing but IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN! They all look good until they run into a Skilled "BORING" Boxer
It is a reason why you rarely see any Pure Brawlers within a Top 10 P4P List, Pacquiao and Froch are not "PURE BRAWLERS" either
Ruslan is not a skilled brawler. Is a Shame to compare him to other skilled brawlers like Maidana and Matthysse. People seriously can't judge talent on this forum. Provo and Roos are the definition of one dimensional. They are just tough guys.
When would we learn?
Exposed because he lost against a superior athlete, undefeated as boxer and kickboxer, great IQ in and outside the ring, who happens to box very well?
Ruslan almost finished him in round 1 and I wouldnt be surprised if he won the rematch. Having said that, in a rematch I would slightly favor Algieri having seen what he's capable of.
Exposed? Really? Was anyone under the impression that Provodnikov was some kind of burgeoning Willie Pep? He's called the Siberian Rocky for a reason.
Chris Algieri just boxed brilliantly and you can count me in as a converted fan of his.
#Algierian :boxing:
Win, lose, or draw u r going to the hospital after fighting ruslan, algeri did what he was supposed to do, it's called boxing, using your tools to get the w
I would say Algieri is pretty good and it was a very close fight. If you didn't know Ruslan could get out boxed then I don't know what to say. The surprising thing was not Algieri having some success boxing that way, it was the fact he had sustained success mostly to the end and did not get broken down showing quality toughness dealing with the right side of his face getting wrecked on.
Watching that fight didn't make me think less of Ruslan at all.
I'm pretty sure the general consensus was that Provodnikov could be outboxed. I didn't expect it to happen last night, but I figured Ruslan wouldnt have a long title run. He's still one of my favorites.
Ruslan never has been that good. He beat a Mike Alvarado that was probably about 40% of himself. Never bought into the Ruslan hype, he's just not that good
I agree with you. People were hyping Ruslan so much. They had him beating Marquez, even Floyd. I don't see the same fighter. I see the guy that was almost stopped by Bradley (via all the shots he was taking). I see the guy who comes forward with no real skill. He's lumbering, unskilled, and a fabrication. Sure, he's fun to watch--but he's not an elite fighter, and won't beat the elites. I won 100 bucks last night---I predicted Algieri out boxing Ruslan.
For the most part 90 percent of the people on this site buy into hype jobs over and over (Broner, Ruslan, maybe even Matthysse). Stop people, stop the insanity and learn the sport.
N
You are supossed to make adjusments, cut the ring, make him move in the direction you want to set him up, put him in the ropes and go to the body to take some of that movement away, etc...
You're right. He stopped going to the body early and that was the difference imo. The body was there for the taking if Provo wanted it.
OP, Dumb comment, .... if a fighter runs away all night what are you supposed do?
It takes two to have a competitive bout and all though I admire the kids heart and willingness your punches need meaning unless pro boxing is becoming amateur boxing now!
Rock didn't look good chasing him but that was the show one guy running and scoring "meaningless" shots and the other "forcing" the fight.
Bad match up of styles shame on the promoters and match makers.
Ray.
I hear you and personally I prefer Ruslan style over Chris but the fact of the matter is Chris got the W he exposed a brawler who tend to be always limited..
