tough call! Mattysse has better technical skills and is probably the better puncher. Provo has the better chin. Lucas hits the floor twice and still win a split decision in a fight that ruins both guys
In spite of the mad toughness Matthysse showed yesterday his boxing skills just werent there, and we have seen him fight MUCH better, smarter and with more skills. The fact is, his team just sucks and they are not up to it.
Lucas desperately needs to let go of that shtty team he has and train with Robert Garcia along with the rest of the Argentine fighters. Now that would make a huge difference and you'd see a real machine tearing guys up.
Without good strategy and a good team around him, its just a shame to see such talent not reach its full potential.
I disagree. I don't disagree he would prob be better served with Garcia, but I think you're wrong about his skills not being there last night. Yes, he was getting hurt by big punches and got put down twice, but other than the few seconds in the rounds that the knockdowns occurred I thought he boxed his best fight in a long time. I feel he was falling too much in love with his power and fought his last 2-3 fights just loading up on shots. In this fight though he was double and triple jabbing, setting up his power shots, throwing combinations to the head and the body. I'm not saying that he looked as dominant in this win as some others but that had a lot to do with Molina's power and (in this fight) his ability to take a punch. Matthysse defense has always been somewhat suspect because he has always got hit, just this time he was getting hit by a big puncher.
Provodnikov can fight on the inside a bit, Ruslan will have far more success than Molina who couldn't direct his punches properly. The fighter that was really suppose to test Matthysse on the inside was Peterson but Lamont was taken out before he could get going. After seeing what I saw yesterday I'm not so sure anymore. Provodnikov's face swells up easily, gets hit too easy but Matthysse is open for counters up close and Ruslan will not only tag him but follow up which Molina couldn't.

I could only picture Provo being to relentless for a slow starter like matthysse but if he survives the early rounds it could turn into another all out war 50-50

i still think matthysse wins. he's steadier, moves his head better, and has faster hands.
ruslan takes breaks. lots of brawlers take breaks. matthysse is more like a pressure fighter than a brawler in that he is steady.
it would be an amazing fight. matthysse's career won't last long with opponents like that, whether he wins or not.
Im so sick of hearing about Provo because Bradley fought stupid and let him swing away on him. He and Rios are so crude it's not even funny.
They are basic fighters who soley rely on their toughness. Let's not forget Provo was thrown in as an opponent for Bradley.
Id much rather see Lucas take on a variety of the guys in the GBP roster. Mostly I want to a Garcia rematch.
I'll buy that 5hit if they put it on PPV, two warriors going at it with no regards for their health and the well being of their opponents, why not? GBP/TR, make this your first make up fight together and fans will forgive you both for being such Divas. At least I will forgive them lol.
