Where would you rank him???Sy he beats Khan at 147,the beats Manny for the WBO and ring belt..then caps it off by Beating Martinez for the Lineal Middleweight title..where would he be ranked??????????? no but this and but that.Assuming he did this and retired where would he stand in history?
45-0
9 time champion in 6 weight divisions
5 time lineal champion in 4 divisions
:lol1: you guys are insane. Seriously.
Top10? top5? top2????
If we compare this hypothetical resume to a guy I'm sure most of you know, Ray Leonard.
Now Ray is a top10 ATG. Not even he has a strong case for being top5, let alone top2.
Do you guys feel Martinez is remotely close to as great a mw as Hagler? Is Pac remotely close to as great as Duran? Is Khan,DLH,Corrales,Mosley,Hernandez REMOTELY close to as great as Tommy Hearns? No.. Not even close. Hell, are any of those close to as great as Benitez?
Ray Leonards resume completely rapes Floyds hypothetical (best case) resume. And hes a top10 atg.
Please, put things into perspective people. This is madness. Being called among the 20 best fighters of all time is FAR from an insult. It's quite extraordinary in fact, and a huuuuge accomplishment.
(and if some mental midget tells me Floyds greater because he didn't lose to Duran, I'm gonna throw up)
catchweight bouts vs Cotto & Margarito....you are counting those?...lol
So whats with those catchweights? Cotto agreed with it. Its the same banana as when May fought Hatton and JMM. Yes, its a welterweight fight but obviously those two guys has to fight him above their natural weights. In fact, Cotto is only 2 pounds south of max (even a pound lighter than his natural weight), while hatton has to move up for how many pounds? At JMM's fight, May was even heavier than the agreed catchweight. LOL
It don't matter what Floyd does, these haters will never appreciate his greatness because they are so blinded with hate. Hopefully Arum hasn't many years left so we'll witness Floyd destroy Pac, hear their excuses about how Floyd waited until Pac was shot & how the test drained him for about a week & they'll fcukoff dragging boxing down with their racist fuelled B/S
Wrong, wrong, and wrong. You claim Floyd's haters will never give him respect. Wrong, because most Floyd haters hate him for taking lame fights instead of top fights, if he fights Khan, Paq, and Martinez he will have fixed that problem. As for your claim that people will say he waited until Paq was shot, bullsh!t. Paq is a year or two younger than Floyd, no need to make that argument, and most Paq fans, myself included, admit that Floyd probably wins that fight, and simply cannot understand why he wont take the challenge. Last but not least is your pathetic, disgusting crap about Floyd haters basing their hate on race. You are weak. Blaming crap on racism is a show of weakness. I detest Floyd based on his behaviour outside the ring and his consistent failure to take the biggest challenges in the ring, and most of my favorite fighters are of the same race as Floyd.
Top 25, maybe his resume doesn't quite put him there but it would be good enough combined with his skill as a fighter to be justified.
A modern fighter deserving of that high consideration in ATG discussions would be a hell of a feat.
If all were Even
No cheap shots
No fouled out win
in fair play by all fighters
I would list him as an all time great.
I would question why he waited so long !
I would question why he retired when Cotto arrived on the scene
Great fighters leave no questions,,,he would have lots of splaining to do mang
well if he did it right now it would certainly be a beefy resume. Don't wait till Pacquiao's legs go, decision him then act like your the greatest. This fight could have happened last year.
May would probably beat Khan by KO and edge a decision against Martinez though.
Pacquiao might be younger than Mayweather but his style requires more physical talent. Floyd, like Hopkins can probably be competative into his 40's.
if a floyd vs sergio fight were to take place, i think it would be at 154 rather than 160.
To get floyd to even fight Sergio is hard enough. For Floyd to fight Sergio at 160 is dreaming and fantasizing really.
But Floyd lacks confidence in himself, putting other fighters on pedestals so im not sure if Floyd would entertain Sergio at 154, even though Sergio has made it clear he would do it.
Hes getting Sergio to step down, which is something FLoyd doesnt like doing for other fighters. Yet Sergio is prepared to give Flooyd an advantage.
if he wins over khan, Pac, and Sergio, wait let me do my calculations...
plus 3 to the 2nd power, divided by .... minus 2 sucker punches multiply by # of fighter he ducks... /+ = ^ = % (R) V 8 # of elbows (n) (f) (b)/ (r)....
well........ based on my scientific formula I'll put Floyd # 98 in the ATG list.
Did you carry the Biscuit?
Mosley was not lineal champ, i.e. he did not hold the Ring Magazine title.
However BoxingScene "recognized" Mosley as their lineal champion because he beat Margarito, in a fight between their number 1 and 2 ranked fighters. So BoxingScene created their own "lineage". Floyd beat Mosley to become BoxingScene's "lineal champion". And has held on to the "title" since that victory last year.
If you check BoxingScene's divisional rankings, they still see him as "champion" and therefore rank him higher than Pacquiao at 147, even though the Ring Magazine title is vacant.
Floyd is currently a 1-time Welterweight lineal champ, but if he fightts Pacquiao it'll be a fight between number 1 and number 2 in the division so the Ring Magazine title and therefore lineal title would be on the line, meaning Floyd would then become a 2-time lineal champ at 147.
Just want to point something out here, Mosley/Marg wasn't a fight between 1 and 2, it was a fight between #1 and #3. There was no definitive lineal at the time because those three lost to one of the other. Now there were debates that 1 and 3 was "close enough" but c'mon, how can you say there was a definitive winner of that triangle (hence why The Ring didn't award Mosley).
Hypothetical scenario:
Mayweather has a trilogy with Pacquiao.
- Mayweather wins the first fight by split decision.
- They immediately rematch and Mayweather loses the second fight by TKO on cuts midway through the fight whilst leading the fight on points.
- In an immediate rubber fight Floyd wins by a clear UD.
I feel that this does MORE for Mayweather's legacy than remaining undefeated...
Here's my reasoning:
1) Pacquiao's win over Floyd would be the best win of Pacquiao's career and would therefore mean that Pacman was still a not "old", "shot", "past-prime" etc when Floyd beat him in their first and 3rd fights.
2) Floyd has avenged his only defeat and has therefore shown that he can bounce back from defeat, come back better and learn from his defeat. Something that would prove invaluable when ranking Floyd in terms of ATG status.
Otherwise, if he remained undefeated people will always question his ability to avenge his losses, something which might hold him back so he might not be rated highly by some people.
3) A trilogy of fights with another ATG would further enhance his popularity and legacy.
Does anybody agree with me that this is better for Floyd than remaining undefeated?
what the hell??now he has to lose to be great???lol
Mayweather will never be considered great because he did not fight Cotto and Maragarito two unquestionably ATG boxers, and certainly considered elite fighters of our lifetime. These two guys have dominated boxing and have defeated ATG great fighters while doing it. Margarito especially has made up for his 7 losses by getting caught cheating and beating truly elite level fighters such as Kermit Cintron. Miguel Cotto has been a global sensation and has publicly been begging to fight Mayweather for years. Just ask Bob Arum or anyone on these forums about the proven eliteness and greatness of Cotto and Margarito and you can easily see why regardless of what Floyd does from here on out, passing on fighting these 2 All Time Greats means he will never be considered one of the best.
nobody said he wouldn't be considered great because he didn't fight them
