“You are right. He never fought anyone that big. He’s the smaller man, no doubt about that. But, that doesn’t frighten us because we know what we are doing. We are going to make that height and weight advantage work against him. He’s just a basic fighter. You don’t have to prepare for anything specific to fight him,” Peterson said.
“Pavlik is taller, bigger and punches harder but he has to find something to punch.
Williams's trainer Peterson said this. And im trying to think, did he say this to make Williams look better going up against the over all bigger guy? so a win could look better as well? Williams is actually taller than Pavlik, I dont know if Peterson knows this but it will be evident at the press conferences and weigh in. Just tired of people not realizing that Williams is taller than alot of middle weights, even super middle weights.
Me neither....:
When it comes to height, boxrec is usually not accurate. They list Chad Dawson as 6'1 when he's really 6'3 1/2. I wish the boxing organizations would ACCURATELY report a boxers height.
Exactly my thoughts. Its gonna be a battle for space im thinking. Its just that paul is a bit more versitile than Pavlik. Not taking anything away from Kelly at all. I think Pauls movment is gonna affect the way Kelly lands that right hand of his. Williams makes improvements after every fight. So maybe with a lil head movment and some D, he can soften up that right from the ghost. JMO
That ghost nickname came from the Ams, where he was a lot more elusive. Those days are long gone, even in the Miranda fight he was eating way too many (wide, telegraphed) bombs. If Williams presents him with a lot of angles, Kelly is screwed. Pretty much his only chance is to, at some point in the fight, turn it into a slug fest, and pray that Williams chin doesn't hold up.
Perhaps, but it's the only chance Pavlik has, to stay outside where he has leverage on his punches and stay away from close quarters, where Williams has an even bigger advantage. Pavlik can't win a decision in this fight, his only chance is to take Williams out of there, and for that, he needs space.

But even still the distance is gonna favor pwill. Even though he doesnt fight tall, hes able to stay outside before losing his discipline and walking in. I think his akward movement is gonna prevent Ol Jab Squared from bein able to sit on his punches. and he doesnt really bend his knees anyway..so we'll see.

Pavlik is definitely screwed if he can't keep some distance between them. Guess he's going to really have to "double up on the jab" in this one .

Alot of people overlook pwills inside game. For being such a long fighter hes a beast in the pocket. I think that is gonna add an extra dimension to this fight.

No doubt Williams is taller than Pavlik, but he doesn't fight tall, so it shouldn't be an issue. The reach advantage is much more important, Pavlik can't hang with Paul on the inside and Paul's reach will make it difficult to do much work from the outside as well.

I honestly believe pavlik is 6'2". he was evidently a little taller than hopkins and he looks like a solid 6'2. that first pic doesent do enough justice, could have been taylor wearing shoes, pavlik not because taylor i beluieve is 6'1. i think arreola is a solid 6'3. williams is 6'3, maybe even 6'4.

Good points. Whatever the best measurement may be, clearly Williams has some long ass arms just by looking at him fight. I guess we wont really be able to tell until they are standing face to face.
Yea, no doubt. I was just ranting about some thoughts that came to mind but he definitely has some long arms. I'm starting to think that HBO's measurements are complete BS for the most part because I find it very hard to believe Pacqauio's arm's are only 1/2" shorter then Williams (they have his arm length at 25").
The listed measurements are a joke. Arreola is clearly less that 6'4" and Williams clearly taller than 6'1".

Arreola is around or is 6'4, Williams was taller than him.

The main thing is Williams reach. 82". Eighty two fuuckin inches. Wlad Klitschko is 81". Pavlik is listed at 75"
I made the point earlier in this thread that Williams arm length is actually slightly shorter than Wlad's. I believed this to be the more accurate measurement (as well as HBO apparently) but after putting some thought into I would say it's a flawed form of measurement as well as wingspan. The reason being is because when a fighter throws a punch their shoulder is out in front and this lengthens the range thus shoulder width is coming into play. The problem with the wingspan measurement is it measures from fingertip-to-fingertip and therefore it's including finger length. It's also deceiving since if a fighter has a 2" wingspan advantage this really only means 1" per side (including fingers).
If the arm length measurements from HBO are accurate (and I take them with a grain of salt) then it would have to mean that Williams has wider shoulders and/or longer fingers based on the wingspan measurements.
He's taller than a lot of heavyweights, such as Boytsov, Chambers, Minto, Tyson, Tua, etc.
And he has a longer reach at 82" than Vitali (80") and Wladimir (81").
No. His arm length is 25.5" and Wlad's is 26".

It might be part of the psycological warfare. Maybe the trainer hopes that Pavlik reads what he said and believes that he is taller than Williams. Then when they are face to face the first time Pavlik is hoped to be getting a schock, when he finds out that he has to look up to Williams.
