What was it like? What were the talks going around? Was he getting major credit for beating Morales? I just thought of this because it was right after he beat Pacquiao. Then it seemed like Pac got elevated to stardom right after in the rematch. So what was the deal?
I remember watching the fight before I was gonna go out to the bar with my friends. Lets just say that shit ****ed with my night big time. I was pretty pissed off. Raheem outboxed Morales soundly. Erik didn't have it in him to force Raheem to fight and Raheem never gave in to Erik's taunts. It was very uneventful and pretty hard to watch.
I remember the look on Pac's face live on HBO when he and his team were watching it on a the TV feed. He looked like he had just seen a ghost, watching Raheem totally destroy the fighter he just got schooled by in a clinic. It was hilarious!
Everyone knew that Morales was finished at that point in his career, everyone thought Morales should hang up the gloves... well, except Roach and Arum, LOL, and after Pac beat Raheem's leftovers, Pac moved up to p4p2. Pac got so much hype for beating a shot fighter Roach decided to make it a trilogy.:wtf1:
The Pactards said, "Morales had a bad night, he was prime in Morales vs Pac 1, shot in Raheem vs Morales, and then super-prime for Morales vs Pac 2. :alcoholic
I really do think you are way too biased against pacquiao to make an intelligent argument involving him in any way. Morales clearly looked better in the rematch with pac than he did in the raheem fight. He prolly just under trained and slept on raheem. Morales was pac's first fight at 130 as well, raheem brings no fans, small $$$, nothing, there would be no sense in jumping up yet another division and fighting raheem rather than taking a much bigger $$$ fight with morales and proving himself against him. but my argument prolly dont mean shit to you b/c i see you're pretty set in your ways.
I had only seen raheem against Juarez before that. It was a good fight where 1 of the most disgustingly biased refs I've ever seen robbed him. I thought he was a damn good fighter and knew from the start he was gonna school EM at 135. I was kinda upset, but I saw it comin. I figured after that Raheem had big things in front of him and LW should be on notice, but he stunk up the house vs Freitas and ain't done shit since. He beat EM up but never really hurt him, so I thought EM was just fine goin into the Pac rematch.
Didn't Morales go up in weight to fight Raheem? It was a bad choice for Morales and I give all the credit in the world to him for beating him.
Every great fighter has that one guy....
no the contracted weight was 130 but it was Morales who asked to move it to 135 because two weeks (as I was told from an inside source) that he was looking shitty and was way past what he should have been weight wise
Did you see the fight? It was a boring run fest!Zahir was potshotting and running on his bicycle. Morales even fought one handed at one point, purposely putting his left hand down and still knocked Raheem using only his one hand. (though it wasnt counted by the ref but Zahirs gloves touched the canvass)
Yes, granted, Zahir took it on points, but he did it against an overweight, undertrained Morales and in the most boring fashion ever. He won the fight...but he never won any fans with his style.
Not only did I watch the fight but I have it on tape and he skunked EM. Who cares about how boring it was? What, because he didnt fight like a Mexican, that means that he ran? He didnt run, he boxed EM's ear's off. Just because he didnt trade doesnt make him a runner. People always say that Floyd & Sweet Pea are boring but all they do is rack up the victories. I could care less about people saying a guy is boring. Everyone is so biased against pure boxers nowdays, like they have to fight one way.
HBO asked Morales why Raheem beat him so easily. He made no excuses for himself, he simply said Raheem was way too fast and very difficult to hit.
I think Morales expected Raheem to be easier than Pac since he just destroyed the biggest hype-job Pacquiao, but he realized Raheem was ever better and he should have trained even harder for Raheem.
Unfortunately for Morales, he lost his legs when he went back down in weight. He was beating Pac again in the rematch until his legs gave out from losing all that weight. Reminded me of Hearns vs Leonard, when Hearns was beating Leonard but suddenly just shut down and got TKO'd. The commentators said he came in too light on the scales and he might lose his legs. How right they were, the same thing happened to Morales that night in the rematch!
:boxing:
Oh no you're broke. :sad2:

Raheem totally destroyed Morales?Lol...As far as I can remember...Zahir was running almost the whole fight..his punches never hurt Erik.
I can jus imagine if Zahir fought PBF...It would probably rank as one of the most boring fights of all time...two potshotting runners...lol
Google it yourself, I dont have time, besides its basic common sense he would feel that way. Read the long article in this thread about Zahir.
Funny shit right here.
They said he was shot because he didnt win a single round. He got shut out against a pretty average guy. Thats why I say that the media is biased against Hispanics. After that Pac kills him twice and they act like Pac is the best thing since slice bread, like the Raheem fight never happened. He was done

Maybe but he just couldn't beat any LW.
I like Morales but the sad thing is he didn't look like the Morales i know if he fights at LW.
If Zahir and Morales were 130 pounds it wouldn't have made a difference. Zahir isn't a big guy at all. It's the way Morales looked is what I'm saying.
Was it just a bad style matchup? maybe but something was wrong and it wasn't the size of the opponent.
If Zahir did that to Morales, imagine what Floyd would have done to him when he was at 130+
???
Look at the way he fought. Look at his balance and everything that came with it. Then compare him to his prime days. He just seemed confused, off balance...not there.
Unless, Morales just couldn't deal with a slick boxer and was made to look like crap.

Embarrassed? I take it you didn't see the fight. Most people thought Raheem won. Hell, even most of the Brazilians ringside didn't feel too good about that decision.
Raheem won that fight?
Brazilian looks not good after Freitas schooled Raheem?
No way in hell.
I think you never saw that fight.
Morales/Raheem is just a tune-up fight. He really try how good he still at LW.Morales wants to try the first man in Mexico to became 4 division champ.
Morales is still look good at Pac/Morales II.
Morales just couldn't beat a LW.:nonono:

Im telling you what I read he said, he said after beating Morales he didnt see how Morales was still fighting Pacquaio and he should have been the guy to fight Pacquiao.
Where did you read that shit? Link.
It's how he looked against Raheem which was telling. It's not like Morales went on to have a great career afterwards.
And when you bring up that Raheem wasn't a "spectacular" fighter, then that would serve even more notice of where Morales was at in his career.
It always reminds me of that quote (I think by Cus and said many times by Merchant) about how a past prime/old fighter can basically draw up from the past and give one more last great performance....
Beating Pac the way he did may have been that performance.
I know for at least the third fight, the weight issue was a big deal and Morales was a corpse. Second fight, not so sure; foggy memory on that one.
What was the reason he moved up in the first place?

See I remember Raheem winning pretty clearly, but I don't remember him doing massive amounts of damage, which is strange, because all of a sudden after this fight, people were saying Morales was shot to hell.

What?
Raheem is LW.
Pac was FW and his first fight at SFW he lost to Morales.
The he wins again to Velasquez then you mean he would go to LW against Raheem cu'z Raheem beated Morales?
Raheem is not spectacular fighter as too many here say so.
Morales just couldn't beat any lightweight.
Raheem has his chance for the title after he beat Morales,
Then he got embarrass by Freitas.
