:boxing: I remember when top boxers,(Back in the day I mean) the real Champs looked to fight anyone anywhere, in there division, Thats how these Great fights happend, The fights that have gone down in history..
Who is to blame for the route that boxing has now taken?
Where has all the Heart in boxing gone?
As I have not seen it in the last few fights I have seen, The Spinks Vs Taylor fight was a flop total flop...The way I see it at the moment in M.O is that there are 2 English guys who are both up for it both have true heart in the sport but both cant get the fights they wont?
If Mayweather retires then Hatton will clean up....Maybe! And to be honest no one is gonna do Joe hands down but hes out there saying bring me the best, Why dont these guys stop talking about £7-8 million and all that and get down to the real stuff and thats boxing. I wont to see fighters fighting the best out there, Not delaying fights, Then taken them when one fighter is past his best..Bring back the old fashion Tear ups as Nigel Benn use to say:boxing:
Why do people act like this business aspect of boxing and corruption is new?
Was boxing not a business when Joe Gans was throwing fights for money because people didn't want to see a black lightweight champion?
Was it not a business when black heavyweights like Langford and Wills couldn't get title shots?
What about the 40s and 50s when the Mafia controlled guys like Ike Williams and Frankie Carbo was the most powerful man in boxing? When Beau Jack headlined more fights at the Garden than anyone else but ended up shining shoes for a living?
Or Jack Dempsey defending his heavyweight title once every eon....because he could make lots of money doing exhibitions instead?
Boxing has ALWAYS been a shady business.
Bore-snores, corruption, greed, fighters getting avoided, and all the other crap we see today is nothing new.
People get too nostalgic.
There was a lot of crap back in the "good old days" too.
Only difference being the presence of the internet...now anybody can jump on a boxing forum and exaggerate every little thing that happens.
"Fighter A wants 10 mil? Oh that's too much he must be ducking fighter B! He's a coward!"
And then people log on and read this shit and it rubs certain fighters names in the mud....creates unnecessary labels on fights and fighters. This aspect wasn't present in the 80's.
True, And checkout some of the boxing nicknames nowadays that tells you a little something about the fighters just for shits and giggles, 1."The money man" oh very dangerous, 2."Strictly bussiness" lol very scary 3."The boxing banker" Whats he gonna do hit us with a cash register. rediculous lol.

Cory "The Next Generation" Spinks.

ha-ha! LOL!!!!! The Boxing Banker...that sh*t is funny! I wonder who in world would call them selves that! I was used to names like "BONE CRUSHER SMITH" and "THE EASTON ASSASIN" those were some real Boxer names. I mean Tarver and Paulie both call them selves "MAGIC MAN" but I wouldn't want to hear Michael Buffer announce me with...."and in the Blue corner..."The boxinnnggg Bankerrrrrr"!!

that is a great post! I hear you, and totally agree. now a days it's about the pay check, and preserving a winning record, not about going toe-to-toe like..
1. Sugar Ray Leonard
2. Roberto Duran
3. Thomas Hearns,
4. Marvin Hagler
5. Mohamed Ali
6. Julio Cesar Chavez
7. Michael Carbajal
and like so many other before them. brother, like you i miss those days when the Champ didn't blah, blah, blah, and forught the top fighter out there. Proved to world who the nest was. But at the same time you gotta consider some things. In those days drug testing wasn't like it is today. Technology improved and detecting substances were greatly enhanced. not saying boxers back then doped-it-up, just that certain things were tested back then. On top of that, the heart and soul these fighters had, pushed them through pain and injury, and wouldn't quit. Some folks may not agree with the way "Don King" ran business....but the man brought you the best fights out there!

Just to let you know I've been watching boxing for a long time, big fights just didn't happen overnight, sometimes it took even longer back in the old days then it does now.
So I don't agree with what you saying at all.
fair comment but I dont agree!

Ima bring boxing back to its glory days, henry armstrong style, ill fight for the Super middleweight belt 1 month then come back for the light heavy 3 month later then the cruiser 3 montha after that, ima fight anybody anywhere and youll see, but 1st i gotta get back to the gym and stop fucking around
I hate to say it and some people will probably disagree with me but we do need someone like ''Dana White'' for boxing.it wont be half as easy when hes got as many mma'ers as we have boxers.
one belt just aint enough to go round but for ufc it is.
ufc is going up but all that means is its got farther to fall, just like boxing.
personally ive been watching way more ufc lately because boxing sucks
so fuckin much. but i will always prefer boxing.
cant wait till Zab-Cotto....thats a superfight IMO
I dont know what people are talking about with this. If you look back into old champions and there title defences, overall, the quality of their defences were just as good or worse as the ones nowadays.
I mean, bring up any old not-superstar champion and you can see clearly that they didnt have megafights every other fight...
________
Plymouth Fury History
That's why many people where cheering Miranda on. He will fight anybody. After fighting an undefeated Allen Green he went straight to undefeated Pavlik. Not many fighters do this anymore, they fight bums until its time to cash in
Business. In a sport where you can die or suffer serious damage you have to be patient, pick and choose your spots, and while at the top make as much in the fewest fights possible. Of course as boxing fans we would like to see the best face off against the best but this isn't other sports where that happens all the time.
