This past Friday, middleweight Osumanu Adama (18-2, 13 KOs) earned a unanimous decision over Angel Hernandez (30-9, 17 KOs) to win the vacant IBO International title in the main event of Windy City Fight Night 14 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, IL. It was a slugfest as expected with both fighters throwing bombs and exchanging punches frequently; however, it was also a very one-sided bout as Adama landed the more explosive punches throughout the twelve-round contest.

On Friday night, welterweight contender “King” David Estrada will face Franklin Gonzalez in a scheduled eight-round contest at Windy City Fight Night 14 at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.

Light heavyweight Andrzej Fonfara (15-2, 6 KOs) wasted no time in winning his lastest bout, with only 23 seconds being needed to annihilate Anthony Doughty (9-2, 8 KOs) in front of his Polish fans at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, IL. Doughty came out swinging, ready to slug it out, but Fonfara threw a quick left-right combination, landing the right hand flush to the face of Doughty. Doughty was down and out, lying motionless for several minutes. It was the third straight stoppage victory for Fonfara, who began his career at welterweight and looks very comfortable at 175 lbs.

In the untelevised portion of the ESPN Friday Night Fights card at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, heavyweights Mike Mollo (20-3-1, 12 KOs) and Gary Gomez (18-11-2, 7 KOs) fought to a majority draw Friday night.

Before the super middleweight prospects took action on Showtime's Friday night broadcast, former NBA star Kendall Gill (4-0, 3 KOs) continued his winning streak with a 3rd-round TKO over heavyweight Miles Kelly (1-2, 1 KO) at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, IL.

After 16 months of inactivity, Chicago heavyweight Mike Mollo (20-3, 12 KOs) defeated Billy Zumbrun (23-12-1, 13 KOs) by an eight-round unanimous decision on Friday night at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois. Mollo took time off after suffering two consecutive losses against Andrew Golota and Jameel McCline in 2008, but returned to his winning ways in front of his hometown fans.

The heavyweight division has slightly changed over the last twelve months. Champions Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko remain at the top, but other faces were either promoted or demoted in the division’s rankings. Also, we witnessed the arrival of former light heavyweight and cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek, who stopped veteran Andrew Golota in his first heavyweight win. Old faces returned such as Shannon Briggs and David Tua, although Briggs is currently suspended since he tested positive for a banned substance in his return bout against Marcus McGee on December 3rd. It was originally a 1st-round knockout win for Briggs, but was eventually changed to a no contest.

Super middleweight Donovan “Da Bomb” George (18-0-1, 16 KOs) defeated Jason Naugler (18-10-1, 11 KOs) by a fourth-round TKO in the main event of Windy City Fight Night 7 on Friday at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago.

On Saturday, former WBC lightweight champ David Diaz (35-2-1, 17 KOs) earned a 10-round majority decision over Jesus Chavez (44-6, 30 KOs) at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. It was Diaz’s first bout since his defeat to Manny Pacquiao in June of last year. Throughout the contest, Diaz was relentless with his attack, but Chavez showed that he was prepared for a wild battle. The event entitled “WARRIORS COLLIDE/WINDY CITY FIGHT NIGHT 6″ was presented by Dominic Pesoli’s 8 Count Productions.
