By Corey Erdman - When you watch Vasyl Lomachenko fight, there's a whole lot to marvel at. There's his magnificent footwork, which makes it seem as though he's floating in the ring. There's his astute defense—not the flashy kind that makes you miss by a mile like a Whitaker or a Toney would have done—but just e...
By Corey Erdman - As subjective and open to debate as the pound for pound discussion is in boxing, the current state of the mythical list offers more questions, and more possibilities for No. 1 than ever before. Following Roman Gonzalez's shocking loss at the hands of Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, the fight crowd no...
After Gennady Golovkin's tough victory over Daniel Jacobs this past Saturday, the middleweight division picture has more clarity, and David Lemieux is figuring out where he fits into it. Following Lemieux's devastating knockout victory over Curtis Stevens, his stock is as high as it's ever been. So while boxing fans are still hoping that a Golovkin showdown with Canelo Alvarez is just around the corner, the Canadian slugger is keeping his name in the hat in case GGG can't make a deal happen.
By Corey Erdman - There is more than a bit of irony in the joy fans took when David Lemieux was stopped by Marco Antonio Rubio in 2011. Most ShoBox events are designed to induce the birth of a boxing star. Tonight, it was headlined by Claressa Shields, who reminded everyone that she already is one. The first card ever headlined by a female bout on premium cable ended in scintillating fashion, as Shields savagely beat down a double tough Szilvia Szabados, stopping her in the fourth round.
Former light heavyweight champion Glen Johnson (54-21-2, 27 KOs) hasn't been seen in the ring since 2015—but he doesn't want a soft touch for his return. Johnson, 48, recently took to Instagram to call out a fellow former light heavyweight champ, Jean Pascal (31-4-1, 18 KOs).
Claressa Shields certainly isn't wasting any time. As the two-time Olympic gold medallist prepares for her bout against Szilvia Szabados on March 10 on Showtime, her management team is busy looking ahead to what would be the biggest fight in all of women's boxing: A showdown with WBC middleweight champion Christina Hammer.
After suffering his first professional loss to Jhonny Gonzalez, Abner Mares took it easy, by his standards. In an eight month span, Mares took on Jonathan Oquendo, Jose Ramirez and Arturo Santos Reyes, a trio of undercard bouts as he collected himself following the shocking knockout loss to Gonzalez. Those would have been passable matchups for most fighters, but for a fighter who had consistently put himself in dangerous situations throughout his career, it was a bit alarming, and drew criticism from fans and critics alike.
Facing a murderous puncher like John Molina is never an enjoyable task, but one of the few luxuries of facing him is that there isn't much mystery in what his game plan on fight night will be. The same can be said for Molina's opponent on June 11, as he faces Ruslan Provodnikov in an action fight fan's dream matchup from the Turning Stone Resort and Casino in Verona NY, aired live on Showtime.
People have expected Anthony Joshua to become a superstar for quite some time, but now it's actually happening.
