He was arrested and not charged for interrfering with an arrest of a friend back in 2005. While touching the officers hand could qualify as assult, he was arrested for obstruction of justice and the charges are not on his record.

These are my facts, they facially do not support a finding of probable cause, therefore it would be unconstitutional to arrest GZ. They are FACTS, not skewed like yours and they include every relevant detail that supports suspicion of GZ as well as support his defense.

I never defended GZ and neither did anyone else.

What the media told us:

• GZ is a white man
• TM was a great student coming home from a convience store with a can of tea and Skittles
• The murder happend in a white residential neighborhood
• The murder occurred in TM's neighborhood
• GZ made a racial slur on the phone to the police
• TM screamed for help
• The police did not investigate

What the undisputed facts are:

• GZ is a hispanic man that volunteered as the sole neighborhood watch captain
• TM is a 6'2 17 year old that was on a week-long school suspension at the time
• The killing happend is a diverse gated community, less than half of the households were white
• GZ was responsible for previously catching a thief in the community, and having him arrested and convicted
• There were numerous recent crimes in that neighborhood by a person matching TM's description
• GZ was arrested in 2005 for interfering with the arrest of a friend, he entered a plea that removed the charge from his record
• GZ called 911 46 times this year, reporting open garages, open windows, and 9 suspicious persons
• GZ was carrying a gun, he had a license to but it is unknown whether the homeowner's association was aware that he was armed as a volunteer.
• GZ called the police and reported there was a suspicious black male in his late teens, the dispatcher told him not to follow him
• It is unclear whether GZ said "F***ing coons" or "f***ing punks" or countless other phrases over the phone. Its unintelligible
• GZ followed TM was walking home
• An altercation ensued
• TM was shot in the chest and died
• GZ was bleeding from the nose and the back of the head and had wet grass stains on his red jacket. Consistent with witness that claimed to see GZ on his back with TM on top
• GZ claimed self defense
• Police questioned GZ at the scene without an attorney, GZ cooperated
• Sanford police accepted Zimmerman's account at face value and did not test him for drugs or alcohol, although such tests are standard procedure in most homicide investigations
• Some witnesses say TM was on top of GZ hitting him
• Some witnesses say GZ screamed for help
• Some witnesses say TM screamed for help
• Police did not arrest GZ, they claim there was a lack of probable cause
• An investigation is underway
