I hate to say it, but I think Kovalev has a weak chin. He was KOed in the amateurs, dropped by Darnell Boone, rocked and stopped by featherfisted Ward, and knocked out cold by Alvarez.

He got hit on the temple, not his chin. It's a different part of the human body. It messed up his
equilibrium, but he DID get up, of course only to get TKO'd. It's not as if he got his on his CHIN and
went down for good.

The first knockdown, seemed like it was from a punch that he could have either slipped or blocked. His stamina and reflexes appears to be declining. That punch was in clear view. He saw it but couldn't move out of the way of it which is not a good sign. His china is now permanently broken.

I think it's reasonable to differentiate between a guy that can take a punch to every part of his body...EXCEPT his chin. Amir Khan comes to mind...his chin is absolutely weak.

Had he played it safe after that first knockdown and waited out the round, the outcome could have been completely different.
But this is boxing, he fought on until the end, and the haters calling him a quitter look like total morons.
He is 35, on the decline, but I do think he can still perform very well in the rematch if he decides to exercise his clause, and might have a few fights left in him, if he remains mentally in the sport.
