Ive trained in many different clubs. So I can’t call one home. Since I am just a sparring partner / boxing nerd I tend to drift around - and pros in Canada are so bad I don’t need to be in great shape to hang with them. I remember one time I actually couldn’t stop laughing in my head at how soft some of them punch (after they hit me) but campaign like they are punchers and have records of 5-0 (5 kos). They literally must be fighting actual cab drivers or fighters that beat themselves for you.

in some of the bigger gyms in the USA obv the competition improves drastically

few gyms in Canada ive been through:

    sullys
    waterloo boxing academy
    boxing by syd vanderpool
    bloor street boxing
    hard knocks boxing club
    cabbagetown

theres a new one opened by Steve Bailey that looks nice.

Back when we were all still indestructible. You remember that time. The good ol' days.

No doubt they are a lot of fun, and knowing exactly what's coming and when makes everybody look like a world beater. They help to an extent, but I've seen a lot of the younger guys neglecting other areas because they are obsessed with the mitts. Don't get me wrong, they serve a purpose, yeah, maybe I'm just old. lol

If a young fighter neglects an area than it is a coaches responsiblity to not only know what to look for/at, but also to know how to do it properly. And then the ability to show the young fighter how to do it properly. Next, to have the eye to make sure that the boxer is doing it properly. Every time. ........Rockin'

If a fighter is raised on pads in the way that most train, you can always tell. They have practiced not following through for so long by using the mitt works every day. They all pull their punches and are tight. Theres also little play they can do with their combinations, because they are so used to pad drills where you throw 8 punches but only 1 lands. And barely.
