like i said i have alot of natural power but i dig harder and harder and put myself to the test to sqeeze as much power i can threw form.thats why when i hit the bag if i dont hear the same sound that means i threw the punch wrong and i get pissed at myself.i like my punches all compact. i practice tecnique daily, the whole body twisting and all of that. trust me if u have the right form but no power u can develop alittle by tecnique

One of the many problems with the HW division is the absence of well schooled fighters and overload of guys who could hit hart and thats all they really work on. To answere your question a good part of your punching power comes from Handspeed and Technique. Is power what gets all the KO's NO
hit from the right angles At the right time with the right leverage you don't need very much power to ko. somebody. You should have asked what can I do to improve my boxing game. "boxing" game.

Lower Body strength, solid abs/lower back, upper body strength, stabilizer muscles so you can use your strength efficiently, proper balance and quick weight shifting to harness your body's strength etc. etc. and you can be powerful regardless.
Of course there are people who have natural advantages, more fast twitch vs. slow twitch fibers, short-waisted, muscle density, faster reaction time, blah blah, thats where strategy and skill come into play. What good is your opponents powerful punches if he can't hit you with them? or at least hit you squarely? Those genetic "royal flushes" will always have an advantage maybe, but that doesn't mean that your training can't outweigh those advantages.

Power punching can be developed/trained.
Guys who are natural punchers do certain things better, right from the start:
They shift their weight better from leg to leg, better coordination-mechanics.
They have better snap in their punches.
Take 2 guys for example:
first guy can throw a stone at 300 feet with easy,
second guy does only 150 feet.
First guy is definitely natural puncher right from the start, however if knowledgeble coach spend time with the second guy on showing proper technic and do it many times over again, second guy can close the difference quite a bit.
Remember that power comes from the snap generated by you hand (hand punching; aka Formen), body/legs working (turning your body, straightenning your legs and back at connection time), and lateral movement (moving forward with your punch).
Most important IMHO is developing the snap, which can provide amazing amount of impact energy, enough to seriously hurt anybody. It is most evident with short hooks coming of the jabs, or uppercuts.
All in all, I don't believe any partucular strength needed for punching power, there are shorter monster punchers, and longer, skiny guys with no visible muscles as well.
Coach who knows about theory of snaps and other movements involved should be able to make a serious puncher from natural talent as well as average guy...
