good, means you're doing something right. power starts from the legs upwards.

just now thinking of it, the more experienced fighters i've known or talked to, wheather boxers or MAists, have never mentioned any specific genetics being the basis for a persons skill or power. not one.

well my parents are average sized but i am 6'5 240lbs, you are not a carbon copy of your parents

genetics play a big part in being a power puncher

foreman was a massive puncher before he boxed and his punching style never changed, ne never learned to punch 'properly' butm he could still knock your hjead off

good question.people who dont have the natural power would say you can create it.my personal belief is you must have some talent or power in the beginning, some people are just not made for boxing & some are!!!!

This is a trick question for the ages. To a certain degree, power is natural because of body makeup, BMI, etc. I know guys who cant fight a lick, but they are so country-strong its unbelievable. This is where the term "developed" comes in. If by developed you mean - trained specifically for punching, then all power is developed. However, if "natural" can mean the day-to-day environment one is in, or what one has done to get strong over the years, then power is predominantly natural. Like everyone has said, its a combo of both. Power can be born, but its useless unless it is refined through development.

Very true, but consider the fact that it also takes talent (something you're born with) to actually learn proper form. Some people just can't learn to throw a punch correctly, no matter what you do, or who teaches them.

Also, a guy like Ricardo Mayorga has a fair amount of power, and nothing close to proper form. His power is 80% physical (yeah, I pulled that number out of my ass, but you get my meaning, I hope).
A guy like Paul Spadafora has good form on his punches, but very little power.

What I'm trying to say is that proper technique refines power, but you need certain physical parameters to be able to generate significant power. Those physical parameters can be improved by training, but are mostly a matter of genetics. Technical talent must be trained, but to a large extent, that is something you're born with as well.

Power is a mix of genetics and hard work. Where the balance lies is hard to say exactly, but I believe that it is possible to have power without training, if you're born with talent, but no amount of training in the world will give you significant power (I'm talking world class here) if you don't have the physical and/or technical talent.

Rockin is dead right. You have no maximum potential, there are no limits. You just gota understand that.

Why so much emphasis on power? it's like who's **** is bigger than who's. Do you need the bragging rights? I'll quote Winky Wright "it's boxing, Not KO"S"
One of the many problems with the HW division is the absence of well schooled fighters and overload of guys who could hit hart and thats all they really work on. To answere your question a good part of your punching power comes from Handspeed and Technique. Is power what gets all the KO's NO
hit from the right angles At the right time with the right leverage you don't need very much power to ko. somebody. You should have asked what can I do to improve my boxing game. "boxing" game.

The greatest punchers in boxing history had unusual natural talent which they developed still more by hard training.....
