  • punching power... natural or developed?

Sorry if this is something that has been discussed before but i couldnt find much of an opinion on this.

Do you all regard a boxers ability to punch harder than another fighter as a natural talent or is this something that is developed with training?

Similar to having a good chin etc... what are everyones thoughts?

I think people are born to be punchers. That dosnt mean that with no training u will be able to punch hard. What am saying is u need to train to develop that power. I never had a hard punch as a kid. Now i am p4p the hardest puncher in both my gyms. I was born to hit hard.

With training everything can be improved, but only to a certain extent. I feel the hard hitters of boxing have a natual talent that has been increased by training.

I fully agree, each person has a maximum potential and training will bring u to that maximum.

Depends on what you mean by "power". Are you talking Joe Loui's left hook? In that case, talent and hard work. Or are you talking the average guy, in which case power can be developed to a large extent, but only up to a point without the natural talent.

God given talent has a lot to do with it, but don't underestimate an individual's ability to increase their punching power significantly

Good technique for starters counts for a LOT

Your mind will allow you to take your body past preconcieved limits, if you just allow your mind to do it.

Devastating one punch knock out power is usually there from the start, you can develop your power with technique but you either have no power, some power or awesome power entirely dependent on you natural ability hence some fighters can punch, some cant!

i think its no more than 10% natural talent, no more. the rest is hard training and putting your body on the line to produce the most efficient machine out of yourslef that you possibly can. just remember boys, impossible is nothing.
