Anyone who still goes by the belief lifting weights is bad for Boxing, should be slapped in the face.

I hate when new guys come to the gym and I overhear them talking about weights making you slow. Should you lift 5x a week like a BBer? Absolutely not, but weights are beneficial. Strength train 2-3x a week is perfect. Why is it only Boxing where idiots think it makes you slow? Boxers are athletes. All other athletes do some sort of weight training, even MMA fighters, so why should Boxers be any different?

If your not a competitive boxer it makes no difference how you use weights, its your choice and has nothing to do with actually boxing.
If your a competitive boxer under my guidance we use weights in your training but once your in boxing shape and sparring for a fight there's no more weights used.
It also has a lot to do with genetics and muscle shapes. If you have high peak biceps for example you don't need them filled with blood so your flexibility can be in jeopardy.
There's much more to this then a generalization about weight training in boxing. I am old school and I do prefer other methods to raise strengths instead of possible stress exercises. I like movements that maintain a different motion and have more muscle groups involved as opposed to isolating body parts.

Can you give an example workout that you might recommend for beginners, Ray Corso? With the number of sets and reps?

I saw a fantastic interview with Roy Jones Jr before the most recent Marquez v Pac fight, he was talking about Marquez's new physique/weight lifting would help his style of fighting and increase the power on his hooks etc. If I can find it I'll post it on here.

Most of the weight exercises talked about here are all fine. I used dumbbells a lot freely and bench inclines working arms or shoulders or chest!
If I'm building strength then I use a strength regime I just don't go at it like a weightlifter would. I did go heavy with power reps but not as long as a weightlifter would. I would get lighter and higher and once my punching power gained some pop I'd also incorporate the heavy bag routines in with the weights. My speed bag work would start with the big bulbs and go right down to the peanut bag as a "high rep" routine. Once I felt strong with stamina I'd let the weights go and start heavy on body exercise like pull ups forward reverse split grip etc etc...

Listen if you think your not feeling strong train for strength but weights will effect your fluidity but if you don't have fluidity don't worry about it hahaha!!
                Ray.

Depends on what you're looking to get out of it, homie. Someone looking to build muscular endurance would have a different range of sets/reps/intensity than someone looking to build strength.

Heres the link to that video. Roy Jones Jr talks to Leonard about lifting weights in training! Seems to go against what some of you guys are saying about speed etc, but seems insightful nonetheless especially seeing as Roy Jones and Leonard are known for having blistering speed.

Another thing that might be important is "Range of Motion" which you lose if you bulk up too much. You'll notice that body builders are limited with motion and always seem to have their arms permanently stuck in an awkward bent position, which I guess is the same as what someone else said about "fluidity"

EDIT: He also indirectly predicted that overhand counter knockout HA

Bodybuilders aren't inflexible because of muscle mass. Many bodybuilders have great flexibility. Even when I weighed 250lb I could clasp my hands together over under behind my back. The reason they might not be as fluid is if they try to muscle things instead of learning technique.
