Sugarman was in great shape and rarely was out of shape! When you fight once a week to once a month theres little room for getting out of shape! Good road work with shadowing out alot and solid body conditioning is all you need when your scheduled to fight so often.
Marciano paid great attention to his conditioning and often relied on it when fights went deep in rounds!
I used to train with Zarate' and that guy was a nut when it came to conditioning! He had a good motor and out worked everyone in the gym too.
In the late 70s I had Leonard at my gym and when he came out of the amatuers he stayed in great shape all through his pro career, he rarely went far out of shape and never walked around very heavy!!
Larry Holmes was in great shape also, as a young fighter he learned that condition could get you through tuff fights. He didn't get heavy till after his prime and when you look at the Holmes vs Norton bout you can see is great conditioning. Larry had a smooth body that didn't look great compared to others but it actually was a perfect build. His muscles were longer and his tendons were obviously strong as needed. He recouperated as good as anyone who ever boxed and his determination was well known.
Gavalin stayed the same weight forever it seems hahahaha!!! H had a very good motor and was seemingly never tired.
Theres many many excellant conditioned men through out boxing history for sure.
Boxers are the best conditioned athletes ever! The fact that their conditioned to take trama for 10 rounds+ for 3 mins. and more in titled bouts says it all. No other sport has the consequences boxing offers.

        Marciano

Also read about old timer Jim Jefferies training. Unbelievable amounts of running. Dempsey ran "only" seven miles the morning of the Willard fight.

Actually I'd have to say Muay Thai (real one not ufc style) Is worse in consequences
As for what others are saying I'd agree Calzaghe Monzon and Harada and I only threw Tyson in there cause I was tired and he just came to mind

This, he not only had one of the highest output volumes ever, but he just never fatigued. Not much training info on him but I've heard that went for long, slow jogs.
