I've got a 5 mile road race next week, its through the streets of a town, so I'll be lucky to get under 30 mins.....but fingers crossed!!!

I did my 5 mile race last night (measured distance was 5:08 miles), it was freezing cold (2 degrees!!) The other runners were joking about my dress sense because I was wearing shorts and a vest! They were mostly wearing those camp lycra bottoms!

But I rattled off a time I was happy with as well as a few personal bests enroute, these are my splits:

    Mile 1: 5:35
    Mile 2: 11:26 (a PB for me)
    Mile 3: 17:17 (another PB)
    Mile 4: 23:17 (another PB)
    Mile 5: 29:30 (another PB)

My fastest 2 mile is 9:11. I ran an 11:54 in the first 2 mile in boot camp and never improved because the "running" they did for conditioning was way too easy. It wasn't until my Puerto Rican friend Martinez beat my time by a few seconds in the first heat of the last 2 mile in A.I.T. that I knocked off another approximately 10 seconds. My conditioning hadn't improved--- it was just pure competitiveness. My last time in the 2 mile in boot camp was like 13:30 because I've always had problems with my legs. I also RAN 4.5 in the 40 in high school but I would get sloppy in the rest of the 60 meters because my stride is too long and finish the 100 in high 10's or low 11's. I wasn't too good in the 200 either, I was a little better than average in the 400(I think it was high 49's or low 50) but would get much better after that. When I was 8 years old I ran a 10K with my brother in Austin in 39 minutes. That was without conditioning. The first time he took me to a 10K I thought 6 miles meant 6 times around the block so I took off like a bat outa hell and had to stop and constantly rest after the first 1 or 2 miles. I love running but I can't run anymore because I have Osteochondritis Disichans(I think that's how you spell it) in both knees along with bone fragments floating around in my right knee. I also believe that I have that in my right shoulder but it hasn't been diagnosed. I'm sure it's because of playing football when I was in Pop Warner and the 7th grade. I was very small and underweight but I was fanatically aggressive and hard hitting. In spite of my size I always knocked at least 1 kid out with an injury in each game . I was always the smallest and skinniest kid( then had a rapid growth spurt at approx 15 and am now 5' 11" and 175 lbs) but they always had to special order a larger helmet because I always had the biggest head. My hat size is currently 7 3/4. Jim Ryun is one of my heroes..... and he's the greatest miler that ever lived. I met him once when I worked at a Marriott and carried his bags to his room from the restaurant. I told him how much I loved him and idolized him. He was a very humble and warm person. He tried to tip me but I refused and told him that it was a great honor for me to carry his bags.

You ran a 10K in 39 mins when you were 8 years old!?! Lord!

If you're not having a joke or are wildly mistaken.........full credit to you, I've never come across anything like it in a youngster.

I was in a good muscular shape when i started this running programme but ive shed almost half a stone while keeping my size, abs are coming out quite nicely now

Did about 3.5 - 4miles today id guess, so hard in this cold though! Off for a short run with some of the lads and shuttle runs then plyometrics and stuff soon for this Tough Mudder training.....

                    another fast ahole!

                    i hate you people.

i did 7 in 59 minutes last week (I think).....a couple miles along the beach which was nice.

and I knocked out 8 miles yesterday. that's good work for me, I hadn't run 8-10 miles since before my daughter was born. the time was pretty slow but I didn't care, just trying for fat burning reasons. I wish I had someone to run with that runs 8 minute miles over distance so I could see what the pace is. I'm pretty much running 8:30-8:45 per mile right now.

****** mapmyrun didn't save my under 7 minute separate 1 and 2 mile runs last friday. i was pissed. at least I know I can get down fairly fast for a little distance.

Dont worry Walt, apparently Im getting SLOWER! Did 10k just there, first 5k took 21mins then i had to stop and shake off a pain in my foot (nothing bad no excuse) for about 1 min and the next couple of K was BRUTAL and slow, i nearly just quit tbh. Picked it up at the end again though after i got my second wind and finished strong, 10k took 46mins and whatever seconds...

Decent but not as quick as ive done and i was hoping for a PB!

I did a 2-3 mile jog this morning too, never timed it but it was a casual pace just enjoying the scenery!
