Tell that to Georges St. Pierre, Usain Bolt, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Pac, Hopkins, Tyson, pretty much every NFL Player etc.
Just because he is successful using bodyweight exercises doesn't mean everyone will be.
Plus Mayweather never beat anyone because of a "strength" advantage so really what he's saying means close to nothing
never seen hopkins lift weights neither, unless you include those resistance bands he uses for shadowboxing as weightsComment

there are benefits to using body weight and using heavy weights...but the best remedy is a balance between...have you ever met a body builder who couldn't do 10 pull ups? i know a lot of guys who can do 50 push ups and can't bench 3/4 their weight under the flat bench...it's just how it is...but a balance would always be more beneficial in my eyes...
and keep in mind that mayweather has genetics on his side...floyd sr "looks" to be in exceptional physical shape...i don't think he's doing 100 dips every morning...Comment

I have seen prime tyson lift weights (was behind neck military pressing an ass ton) and read up on pac mans training schedule with freddie roach which included some weights and hopkins did a lot of lifting to jump up in weight and fight tarver and he said it improved his speed and power and made him feel younger. Says he wish he would have started long ago.Comment

Leg presses aren't useless by any means, whole body strength is useful to a fighter, in fact legs, back, core and shoulder are all used by powerful punchers, and are far more useful than bench pressing for punching.
whole body strength ftw.Comment

well it depends on what works. Each guy have different body so it very hard to say which is better.
But you need everything to cover some of the gaps or depends on how you want you body to perform. Stamina based or strength based....etcComment

David Haye openly does weights, he also hits like a train. He has always been heavy handed but he doesn't leave it at that he does heavy deadlifts and presses.Comment

when it comes to punching, if any part of the kinetic chain is weak it won't matter how powerful your shoulders or core are, you will lose power from your punch.

There are other martial arts that hit one hard stuff and dont do weights and could break a rock with there fist.
It all depends on what works for a person.
Also punch strength is not only thing that matter during the fight there are alot of complex stuff invovleComment
