this year I was finally able to get serious and train to start fighting. IN January of this year I was 300 pounds and I couldnt jumprope, hit the speed bag, and never sparred or competed in amateur or pro. Its now May and Im 250 I love jumpin rope now, the speed bag is easy, Ive sparred 5 differant fighters and 3 are pro, and I got this far with NO trainer and no help or support, and I am plannin on making my amateur debut on June 2nd eventhough I just injured my shoulder in a car accident today May 21st.
if you were training since 6 years old how were you 300 lbs and couldnt hit a bag? This is very confusing. In the first paragraph you make it out to mean boxing is your life, than the second paragraph you cant jump rope cuz your 300 pounds? what gives??

I just read all of your Posts. You all seem to want to make it. Ihope you all stick with it because who knows... one of us could actually be the Force that brings boxing back to the number 1 spot of sports. Which would be great for all of us in turn.

I'm happy to say I just made 172... 7 more pounds and I'll be at the catch weight my trainer wants me for June 2nd (and thats whithout drying out...and after breakfast)

Yeah, I wanna do it. I was sitting my exams today just thinking of boxing and how I can train more and more once there finished.... I feel guilty if I don't train.

Problem is though I don't my trainer thinks i'm that serious but that's probably only been going 2 months, but I was thinking about for months before.

The **** thing is, my science career takes up some serious time, so it's like what do you wanna be, researcher or boxer? Honestly, I feel much more at home in my gym than I do in my lab, but then it's like the reality is that not many make it in the boxing world. But really, to try as hard as you can for a few years to see if you've got what it takes, usually means making the the one and only thing you do you know? So that would mean basically ending my science career, and then, if I don't have what it takes... I donno, it's a frustrating situation.

Anyone else feelin' me on that one?

              I'm 19btw

Yeah I know what you mean. I wanna be a boxer, but I wouldn't mind doing carpentry. I think I'll try both out and if boxing doesn't work I got something to fall on.

I definitely know where you are coming from...the way I see it, you can work with science long after you can be a boxer. So if you try boxing for 5 years and it doesn't work out, you're 24. that's still very young, you can do whatever work you need to do and get back on track to your science career.

On the other hand, if you keep working hard at the science stuff for several years, and decide that you want to be a boxer, you might be 23 or 24. Not too old by any means, but at that point, your best years are fast approaching, and from a boxing standpoint, you've wasted 3 or 4 years when you could be out fighting and working on a career.

The third option is to try and juggle both. The old saying goes, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket" but I'd rather follow Mark Twain's advice. "Put all your eggs in the one basket and–WATCH THAT BASKET."

Basically, it won't hurt to focus all your attention towards boxing for a few years. I would much rather be dedicated for a few years and find out I'm not cut out for the sport, than just forget about it now and always wonder "What if?"

                  Good luck man.

Yea thats in everyones mind.. I'm finishing up my last year to so I can get Certified to teacher anywhere...

Unless you've been doing it for years and ya have ya father in the sport.. no one really puts all their eggs into boxing from theget go...

                    We all need money.

But Boxing is what I'm banking on.. if not I'll just be Mr. Josh the Teacher... But thats not my goal or where my momentum is.

EDIT: (I was so sure someone would use the egg basket thing besides me and I was right lol)

Ye well I juggle both now as it is, but it's so damn frustrating, like my academics interfere with my boxing, and my boxing interferes with my academics, then again, I'm sure none of us have the time we need eh?
