  • people nowadays are too close minded. everything thinks that their way is the absolute way and majority are one sided and dont know **** about the other side. you put randy couture and manny pacquiao in a ring or octagon i dont give a damn if your speedy gonzales randy will cut off the ring or damn well step into a punch on purpose to tie up and its all over for any boxing that gets taken down. i started out liking MMA before boxing and started to love boxing after i started to learn a lot about it. Im still an MMA fan and like training in BJJ and Muay Thai but the sweet science of boxing will always be my favorite. i like training in all of these but boxing is still my favorite. in a straight boxing match i think a standup mma fighter has a chance but not the best. The boxer will always have an edge. Boxing vs MMA is always going to be an argument because like i said its the ones that dont know anything about the other and are all close minded. I would put my money on mayweather because sean sherk has problems closing the distance when he boxes and mayweather is something like 2 inches taller with a greater reach advantage. On top of that mayweather in a master at controlling distance. the only thing i think would give sherk an advantage is his condition and toughness. I see sherk putting 12 rounds of nonstop pressure eating jabs and uppercuts and check hooks but not enough to knock him out. Mayweather has problems with fast pressure fighters and usually breaks their spirit because they get worn out and they keep taking small concise shots. Sherk can fight 8 rounds of boxing at sprinting speed. He trains for 25 minutes with no rest. When he gets in the octagon he gets 5 1 minute rests. in the boxing world in 8 rounds he gets 8 minutes of rest for 24 minutes of fighting. he could easily stretch it to 12 even while taking damage. Check out his Cave man conditioning on youtube. i think a boxing match between a pro elite boxer and an mma elite fighter will eventually happen but it wont really prove anything. ill just be excited to see it.

RandomSpeak.com: Floyd Mayweather, Jr. came out the last couple weeks completely bashing the UFC and stating that any boxer would demolish a UFC fighter in the cage. Dana White (UFC President) came back at Mayweather and named you as the guy who he'd put Mayweather up against, and that you would handle him no problem. What are your thoughts on the whole situation?

Sean Sherk: Well, you know honestly in a boxing match, of course he'd beat me in a boxing match. In an MMA fight, he would be in for a beating. I mean, he's not going to knock me out with one punch; I've got a hard head and have been boxing for 13 years so it's not like I don't know how to box. So, he'd have to land a lot of punches to stop me from taking him down, and me being one of the best wrestlers in the sport, there's no way he could stop me from taking him down.

I don't think that fight would last longer than a minute, to be honest with you. And I don't think he should be talking about something that he can't back up, because I'll fight him tomorrow. I literally would, if they called and asked me to fight Floyd Mayweather, Jr. tomorrow, it's done. He's not going to fight me though, and he's just running his mouth. I don't really respect that a whole lot.

There are boxers in here and I just want to hear your thoughts.

Mine are simple..sherk would take him down and GNP him. Mayweather dont know any ground game.

How many people have beat sherk, And how many people have beat PBF?

      • if an MMA fights a boxer, he must take him down to the ground... the rest is history. Just like Sudo.

But If he tries to exchange strikes with a boxer....there is a high chance of losing (like tim silva).

It really depends on how the MMA fighter fights and the rules involved......

          Are you off your ****??
All of the decent fighters have wicked skill.
Like Koscheck and stuff are NCAA wrestling champs.
Demian Maia, BJ Penn and that are BJJ World Champs.
Wads of people are BJJ blackbelts.
Theres a Judo gold medalist who fights MMA now, but I dont know his name lol.

Just cause they don't bob and weave and have fancy footwork dont mean theyre not good fighters, it just means theyre not good boxers. Which is irrelevant because they are not boxers.

          • The top MMA guys would win 9/10 times.

I think James Toney is one of the very few boxers who has actually been willing to do it, but he wasn't allowed by Dan Goosen apparently.

            • Floyd would mess Sherk up badly, as long as floyd goes in knowing sherk will go for a take down, Sherk will never find him. Sherk is roided and slow, Mayweather would tear him apart with 4oz gloves. There is a reason why it's easy to climb the UFC ranks and having skills is not one of them.

Well he was offered a chance to fight him and didn't take it. Surely if he was that confident he would have jumped at the chance.
