You can only go as fast as your muscles are trained to do by your brain. If your muscles never experienced going a certain speed when hitting a bag, then you won't be able hit as fast as you think you would be able to. It is true that using heavier gloves will make you FEEL like your going faster when you take them off, only because you got used to moving so slowly with your gloves and than you are free from the weight. And that is why I use both 8oz gloves and 18oz.

Let me try to explain it by over exaggerating; If one fighter is trained with 16oz, and one fighter is trained with 32oz gloves, which fighter will throw faster punches when fighting? The guy that trained with the 32oz might have more endurance and power, but will his muscles and brain be trained to throw a punch as fast as the guy that trained with half the amount of weight?

You're only as strong as fast as your muscle memory.

well speaking for me,I'm alot faster when I take my 16s off and throw on 12s theres a huge difference that stays.so I dont feel like im going fast I know I am.ahaha because there has to be a difference like if u take off 15pounds of weighted clothes that u have wore for 1 day.once u take those off u will be faster for a short time but faster.

now take me using 16s for 2 years straight for instance, once I put on 12s I will be alot faster and not just for a 12round fight neither.like u said its muscle memory and my muscles will remember those 16s for awhile even when I throw on 12s,then comes more speed.

Its not just about building your speed. Its about building the strength of your arms as well. So when your in the last round, you still have the same snap on your punches.

i know where you are coming from but i still stand by the fact that training with lower oz and higher oz gloves will help in speed more than just training with higher oz gloves

and yet again you feel faster only because you are going faster than you did with heavier gloves, but you're not going faster than your top speed that you can go, do you know what i mean?

if your best time in a 40 is 4.5, and you run with a huge boulder on your back, then when you take it off, it's not like your 40 is going to be any better than 4.5

it just doesn't work that way...

what im saying is if u have something weighted on u for awhile.(months, years) it will be a difference when tookin off. I'm not talking about a week or so.ahaha I think thats where were getting confused. like resistance is for endurance and speed.I mean theres a limit every1s body can go even with alot of training of course.

Didn't feel like making a whole new thread, but what size gloves would you guys suggest to hit a double end bag? Or does it really matter?

Dario, you do seem to know your ****. I think that both "schools" have their own advantages. Muscle memory is key. It's the same concept as to why most of us don't bodybuild. We could stay in the gym, benchpressing all damn day, getting huge and strong. But that doesn't really help you punch faster. At the same time, having those heavy gloves on will help your strength, and ability to keep your hands up and all that. I'm thinking that it would be better to use a combination of both. What do you guys think?

Legend, I use my 8oz bag gloves for that, again, I'm training my ability to produce speed and reactions there. Not sure if that's the standard or what though.

you can do that method, but I prefer mine it hasnt failed me yet and of course I fight with my hands up so I need bigger gloves for endurance
