I haven't been privy to this whole set of posts but I caught the beginning and I'm seeing the end. IMO, Calzaghe is a good fighter just like Mayweather and RJJ that failed to capitalize on their immense talents. While the fact that they never fought "top tier" opponents isn't solely their fault, they're at least part of the problem. If Calzaghe wants to fight Taylor instead of Kessler...I have no problem with that. Sure Kessler very well may be the best Super Middle in the world, but money talks. I can't blame Calzaghe for wanting to maximize his gains since he has a limited number of fights left. On the flipside, there is no excuse for fighting crappy opponents at this point in his career such as Manfredo and Bika. People complain about who certain champions fight but no champion (Mayweather, Hatton, Insert name of protected fighter) fights guys this crappy. Manfredo is simply a name and Bika isn't even that. So if you're willing to face crappy opponents then you have to be willing to fight a title unification.
Calzaghe deserves respect

"I was pounding the valleys at 2 in the morning, until well gone 3 in the morning every day for months: through the rain, snow and fog! While everybody else was tucked up warm in bed! Jeff Lacy was probably tucked up in bed, having completed his work on the treadmill at the health spa in sunny Florida. No comparison! I was prepared to go to war, he wasn't.. not truly. That was the difference. That's what it all came down to. He wasn't prepared for me, not truly. So he soon went into his shell and that allowed me to shine. He wasn't prepared for 25 years of dedication and frustration being unleashed onto his skull and face. If I didn't keep pumping my arms when I was running those mountains, I'd of died because it was so cold out there. I could feel it in my bones! That's the kind of condition I got myself in. It was my destiny, I had sacrificed my whole life for boxing and had a lot of frustration throughout my career and I'm telling you, he'd of had to kill me that night to beat me!"
But in your case you give him respect every five seconds.

Not even on the same stratosphere as Reid, Woodhall and Brewer. Nowhere near that class.
Yes, Beyer did beat Richie but it was a massive upset, and Richie only had five weeks to prepare for the fight (had to recover from quick surgery after Sulaiman had demanded defense) and had been out of the ring almost a year after falling out with Warren, he got caught cold and was clearly rusty, but once he shook off the effects and found his range he schooled Beyer for the last five or six rounds. He had a 12-week camp for Calzaghe, and had looked sharp against Errol McDonald.Comment

Kessler has never been on TV, so how could I see him fight?
We'll soon how good he is if he steps up his level of competition and takes on the likes of Froch, Veit, Brahmer, Bute or Lacy.. Froch went on Danish Radio earlier in the year and said he'd knock Kessler clean out in 2007 in his backyard, so let's leave it for Froch, and then we can have a Calzaghe-Froch domestic dust-up.Comment
