He sat there because he realized he lost, not because he couldn't get up. He wasn't even that hurt in the end of the round, more exhausted and defeated mentally than anything. I doubt he even had a concussion.

See for yourself. That first punch put Sergei into lala land. The ropes saved him from getting knocked out of the ring.

perhaps this is true but try arguing to the comission that he didn't get up because he was depressed

Yes, yes he does. She was the greatest thing about that fight. She, and Sergei's wife. I'd love to see the two of them get it on (in either sense of the phrase).Comment

PS He's not in la la land after that first knockdown. He immediately starts getting up (from what wasn't even that great of a punch to begin with) with little difficulty other than fatigue and rests on the rope. The ref looks into his eyes, sees that he is clearly fit to continue despite how tired or hurt he may look on the video (in other words, he is clear eyed, not concussed), and allows him to continue.Comment

The ref said the only reason he let him continue was #1: He was the champ. #2: The fight was drawing to an end. After the 2nd and last knock down the ref did not hesitate to stop it. The fight was over and so was Sergi.PS He's not in la la land after that first knockdown.
