If Sergei was knocked down at 2:59 and not given the chance to rise because the referee stopped it, it's a shame; but he has very thin grounds for protest. He does have some; but I don't see the arguement being strong enough to overturn the decision of the ref. A rematch is the most that could happen.

The primarily arguement against sergei is that he had been knocked down once before and was obviously hurt....and he didn't seem able to pull himself back into the ring before a 20 count, anyway....he was wedged between the ring and the table. But, even if whether or not he could have gotten up is argumentative, it is still the referee's discretion to stop a fight and save a fighter further punishment, which the ref would have been within his rights to do at 2:59, if he felt Sergei was unable to continue....just as Richard Steele stopped the Chavez-Taylor fight at 2:58 of the final round with Taylor on his feet.

Either way, who really cares? Both men disgraced the sport with their lack of performance and neither deserves a win, with only a sligh edge going to Briggs because he knocked Lyakhovich down and "out", supposedly. 30 seconds of action vs making me sit through 11 rounds and 2 minutes, 30 seconds of "nothing" doesn't arouse two ****s of caring in me one way or the other.
