i agree, although it was the last round and the ref is almost obligated to let the champion continue as a sort of unwritten rule...... lyakovich was in absolutely no shape to fight on after the 1st knockdown, i would say 95 percent of the time a guy in sergeis obviously bad shape is not allowed to continue, lyakovich could have been seriously hurt if briggs had actually landed another big punch, he wasnt there anymore mentally or physically, he was on the freakin moon

Briggs is so sloppy that Wlad is a sharpshooter in comparison. He would throw a straight right down the pipe as Shannon is loading up with that big wide hook. Wlad would dismantle Briggs, take away his power and confidence through straight punching and a high volume attack that Briggs could not match, and take him out in the mid rounds.
Briggs is not a confident man, he was afraid to trade with Sergei at times when Sergei was open for the attack. Sergei isn't featherfisted but hits nowhere near as hard as Wlad. Wlad will have Shannon doubting himself by the end of the first round.
Klitschko just has too much stamina and quickness and his offensive skills are too much. Maskaev will put up a much better fight, as he is more skilled than Briggs and better conditioned while possessing a punch that is just as powerful as Briggs but straighter and more accurate.Comment

lyakoivch could have been drilling briggs with his straight right all night had he been there to actually fight... he threw it once, with conviction, the entire fight and it landed clean on briggs' jaw....
it also didnt make sense the way he kept going to the body with his right hand and never the head, had he gone upstairs it would have been much more difficult for briggs to counter.... with the body shot it seemed briggs was landing a clean left hook counter at about half the time...Comment

The one thing that Brewster was unable to do in their fight. Turns out to be a major factor against Briggs.it also didnt make sense the way he kept going to the body with his right hand and never the head, had he gone upstairs it would have been much more difficult for briggs to counter.... with the body shot it seemed briggs was landing a clean left hook counter at about half the time...Comment

Asian I agree completely. Sergei was thinking rationally, maybe not 100% clear headed but he wasn't on the moon or anywhere else but Chase Field, Phoenix Arizona. What did him in was exhaustion and the knockdown, which in his mind destroyed his chance of a decision win. His corner had him convinced that the fight could go either way and he needed that last round just to win. Once he hit the canvas the first, he thought he had lost.Comment

yeah it was a lethal combination.... like when people die from drugs AND alcohol
im still scratching my head over this one, and im not sure sergei will be able to get his career back on track after this... this is gonna eat at him real bad to know he gave the heavyweight title away... when he looks at the film and sees all the opprutunities he passed on and sees himself in the corner telling his trainer "dont worry" .. man what a disheartening loss.Comment

You slide out of the ring like that from exhaustion more often than being out of it, he was dead tired. Lyakhovich had nothing left in his body at that point. He was just looking for a place to lay down and catch his breath.Asian I agree completely. lyakoivch just never made the adjustment, obviously his propensity for the right hand lead to the body is a bad habit developed by fighting guys who let him get away with it.... cause that was the only way briggs could hit him and sergei ket putting himself right back in harms way.
briggs had a plan and it worked, credit to him for that, but had sergei been smart he would be champion still todayComment

Yeah, man, I would never expect it from an ex-soviet HW to be in such a bad aerobic shape.
Although Wlad against Brewster was also disgruntling.Comment
