    and the ratings prove it...

I like mma and boxing but BOXING is dead....

Its all the greedy promoters faults....they are dumb they could of made more money showing free fights 2 times a month on a regular station like ABC, NBC, CBS etc....but they want that quick fix from a ppv.

    its lame.

    boxing and mma are different.

there is no replacement for the sweet science of boxing

but what i dont get is how they ufc guys alwasy have to act tuff? like if they here your a boxer or watch boxing they will say watch a real mans sport like ufc? wtf boxing is not a mans sport as far as i know they are both fighting...

well according to alot of rednecks they dont like boxing because they dont like when they cannot hit you and they hate it because they see black guys dancing with good defensive skills...but in ufc they can mount you and box you on the ground it makes up for there lack of boxing skills.

I like mma i like guys like cro cop he is a damn good striker! i dont see any redneck in the ufc beatin him.

Boxing fans don't leave......really that should be the end of the story; but I'll elaborate.

Casual fans...aka, those who really don't know **** about the sport but follow the poster boys.....might go to UFC; but I don't consider them boxing fans. Casual fans think Mike Tyson's still champ.

MMA is taking fans away from the WWE and TNA because those fans luv drama and rasslin' and now, they've found "REAL RASSLIN'"......sad; but true.

Sure, there are those fans who were MMA fans because that's their sport of choice; but I submit that they were only casual boxing fans to begin with.....and the "New" MMA fans have go "Hulkamania T-Shirts" in there closets....mark my words. LOL!!!

So, let the rumors fly; but all you have to do is meet the fans to tell the difference. Boxing fans are as special a breed as the boxers themselves. So, fellas, don't let this crap get to you. You know who you are; and if you like sneaking out on boxing every now and then to get you a little piece of MMA on the side, don't worry. Boxing is a forgiving mistress and will always welcome you home and never judge you.

          Peace fellas, I'm out.
KDOGG my man...how are ya? I enjoyed this post from you. You are so true when you say that boxing fans are as special a breed as the the boxers themselfs and that boxing is a forgiving mistress...that is truely funny...and true. Here is my take. I am a huge boxing fan. Have been all my life. I have never liked nor watched WWF or what is it now WWE? On the other hand, I am a big fan of MMA. Why may you ask? They are 2 different disciplines. 2 Different schools so to speak. Boxing...is boxing...there is so much involved in being a professional boxer. Stamina, running, weights, pull ups, push ups, speed bad, heavy bad, foot work, double end bad, uppercut bag, jump rope, techiques, jeez there are so many techniques. I kinda compare it to a golf swing...theres like a million things to know in swinging a club correctly. Boxing is the same. From getting off first to stepping around your guy to throwing punches at angles, to head movement foot movement, differnt kinds of defensive skills, bobbing and weaving, setting up your punches, combinations. To much to list it all. This holds true for MMA. To be a true champion in MMA you better know your ****. Boxing, jujitzu (sorry for the spelling, no disrespect intended), kickboxing, mau tai, wresling, ground and pound techniques and the way they use your body against you, and visa versa..there is probably a ton more that I dont even know when it comes to being a champion MMA guy. So many different schools to be good at that. Remember when UFC first started. There was Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie...look how far UFC and MMA have evolved since then. The calibur of fighter has gone up 100 fold. To be honest, you can love both, equally, and loving a sports for their differences is loving unconditionally..... LOL....Here is the bottom line for me...being a way longer fan of boxing than MMA....I have never paid for a MMA but I have paid a lot of money to see big boxing matches...I watch MMA when there is no boxing on...but I still enjoy some ****ing huge elbows and 3 oz gloves that gash a face wide open and watching someones lights go out from a rear naked choke...thats some awesome ****. I also thought it was awesome to see Joe Frazier get lifted off his feet by George Foreman, and Ali detroying many many comers....I guess like all of us...I love warriors...I love men who have guts, a chin, skills and stamina...that stand toe to toe and deliver and refuse to go down until someone is sound asleep from a nice shot!!!!!!!!!! Love live both sports, each has a place in my heart.

I don't dispute that UFC/MMA has taken over for boxing, but it's not because it's more exciting. Two guys hugging and throwing occasional shots at each other makes for a boring event to watch.
I think the reason it draws more of a crowd is because of the lower skill required to compete, therefore your average drunken redneck thinks he could do it because it looks just like the last time he got into a bar fight.

Perhaps we have dissed John Ruiz too much. It may have been his plan to bring more fans to boxing?

I think the reason more people get into MMA nowadays is cuz they did wrestling or marial arts.

You can do wrestling in a lot of high schools and a lot of parents will approve of their kids studying martial arts like karate or judo or whatever. You can't get into boxing through school and most parents esp. mothers don't want their kids boxing.

Also MMA is kinda trendy right now. It's the new thing.

Boxing isn't dead it's just declined to the point where it's not a mainstream sport anymore. It started declining long before MMA emerged.

I think MMA’s rise will help to further its decline some, because some people who might have become boxing fans if MMA wasn't around became MMA fans instead. So when older boxing fans die off there won't be as many new fans coming up.

if the money ever goes to mma from boxing.. african americans will dominate that too
                    What a ****in ignorant remark.

When you talk about MMA dont bring up UFC. Talk about Pride. And we all saw what happened to Kevin Randleman and Rampage Jackson when they stepped up against Eastern Europeans or South Americans. Hhahahha. U must be a real dumb**** for saying that ****.

Thats bull****, I was at a mma event during the summer with 2 friends, one of them wasn't too happy, said he likes boixng much better. There will always be boxing fans and mma fans and some who watch both. To the casual household I'd say mma is more appealing at the moment based on recent ppv numbers but that is heavily because of the problems in the heavyweight division of not having one unified champ...
