Calzaghe's defense streak vs. Bernard's defense streak?

Hopkins - fought and reigned in America. Therefore is great.
Calzaghe - fought and reigned in Europe (and even managed the impossible and won a fight in Germany). Is thus protected and overrated.
That's how this works isn't it?
PS I think Hopkins has had an exceptional career all things considered. But their records are only different in the sense that Hopkins has won titles at different weights, which gives him the edge IMO. For anyone to say that Calzaghe has a) ducked anyone, b) has fought no-one and c) has been overprotected shows either a staggering lack of knowledge or just plain ignorance of anything outside their own country. It's a big world out their folks.
Fighting in america isnt like fighting in england. Its not even close, in europe your a virtual hometown favorite everytime, in america its not like that. A fight in Vegas against a mexican is damn near like fighting in mexico. If 2 black people fight, one is from oakland, the other is from new york and the fight takes place in jersey, 90 percent of the fans are gonna be new yorkers making it a hostile enviorment. Hopkins almost NEVER had a hometown crowd favoring him, ever. But Calzhage has had that everytime, thats the difference, america is the boxing home because our population is far more diverse reigonally, the mentality is different from coast to coast, once you leave your side of the reigon, you become a hated villain, not an icon by any means.Comment

In which case you are just plain wrong, or at best in the vast minority who think Reid won that fight.
To quote Reid himself "I can't argue with the decision. Joe was the better boxer on the night and I knew I could not catch him for speed."

Edit - kind of proves my point - foreign judges both given it to Calzaghe by a wide margin, English judge gives it to English fighter ahead of Welsh one. Rivalries between states in the US don't even come close to the downright hostility between the countries making up the UK.Comment

OK ... so your interpretation of comments made several years after the event are more valid than his actual quotes directly after the fight?Comment
